Hi Marty, Thanks for the video I have just started down this track and had the same issue. Your video solved my issue but as I already had 6 Wired controllers now been limited to 4. using wireless. As the extender allows the CU to recognize P1 wired Controller and not allow P1 to be coded to a Car must be due to the wiring connection. I have written to Carrera for a clarification/fix.
I don't have an issue with the Carrera style controller, I also have the Smartrace App connection which allows you to set all controller Speed/Brake/Fuel except for Fuel on P5 and P6 due to the Carrera CU software design which is yet to be fixed.

Carerra supports six wireless controllers all at the same time. I think it’s nice that you can mix and match wired and wireless on the Carerra Digital system. I’ve used two wireless with four wired and I have four wireless and two wired running right now. The support on how to configure this is very weak and there’s no videos that I could find. The wired extension doesn’t eliminate anything but it does capture three controller numbers. So all you have to do is reconfigure your wireless controllers to the numbers not used by the wired extension.

Yes, I should redo this video.. I have figured it out.. you have to setup wireless on channel 2 and 6. Running 4 wired with 2 wireless.

Great video, Marty. I was fortunate to learn the limitations of the wired controllers during my initial research last year, and that alone forced me to wait months for a wireless set to become available before beginning my journey. It's really a shame that there doesn't seem to be a cure.
I only use the Carrera wireless, so I am curious on how other brands work, but I do know that I will only buy wireless, whichever brand it is. So far though, the 6 Carrera wireless controllers have all worked excellently.
One strange bit of info on how I use them though: there is NO WAY that I can race using my thumbs Lol. As a kid, I had the AFX HO trigger controllers and that's the way I need to race. So, the way I race with Carrera's controllers: I hold them horizontally and race with my index finger, just as if the plunger were a trigger. I actually use the index finger on my other hand to change lanes, but that's just me, I could always just use another finger on the same hand to change lanes.
    Enjoy!
    Dennis

That sounds pretty convoluted. Great video Marty. I run four wireless and two wired. I have the TrueSpeed for my wired and they are excellent. I recently added two Frankenslot wireless controllers to my track because the Carrera wireless lane switch button seems to break. Plus eventually you need to replace the rechargeable batteries in the Carrera which are specific to Carrera. The Frankenslot takes two AAA batteries which are readily available. The Frankenslot are far superior to the Carrera, but are three times the price.

I was able run 2 wireless and 4 wired Carrera controllers so that 6 cars can race at the same time using the controller extension box. This is how I did it at first until I went with 6 wired RamJet controllers with extended cords. It's been a while since I've run the wireless controllers but I believe channel 2 and 6 were the only channels that the wireless controllers would connect to. So 1,3,4 (on the extension box) & 5 (on the control unit) had wired controllers pulled into them. The two wireless controllers were set to channel 2 and 6. It worked great for me and the Carrera wired and wireless controllers worked well also. I just prefer the trigger pistol grip controller and worried about the batteries not being charged on the wireless controllers and if they would go dead during a race. The wired controllers are always ready to go. Hope this works for everyone else.

I will make a video of what I did to make it work.. in short form.. the Carrera plug is an offset plug.. and standard telephone is not.. but the only difference is where the latch is located. I took an xacto knife and shaved the female plug to allow room for the offset to fit. It doesn’t snap in, but it fits tight. It was a temporary fix until I could find the offset rj jacks. It will make more sense when I post a video. I will try to work on that this weekend. I do like the truespeed controllers. They are great! I believe there might be a wireless solution that works with Carrera Digital (Frankenslot or SlotIt?)
