As a volunteer at this museum, this is the oldest (100 yrs old) and largest military aviation museum in the world. You skipped over Bockscar, the plane that ended WWII with the bombing of Nagasaki, and the XB70 Valkyrie, the SR71 Blackbird. There's so much to see.

I had been there a few times in the 90s and loved all the aircraft and spacecraft you can see. I later moved out to Virginia after college and first saw the Air & Space museum in Washington DC and then when they built it, the extension called the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center very near me. That one is an awesome place. They even have a Space Shuttle.

37:29 You briefly see the sign and photo on the left here, but this is the spot on the plane where President Johnson was sworn into office, with Jackie Kennedy beside him, still in her blood stained dress. That infamous photo was taken in that spot. And just as you exit the rear of the plane on the right is where they temporarily removed seats from the plane to fit Kennedy’s casket inside the plane for his ride back to DC from Love Field. It is tough to stop and read when people are behind you because the walkway is too narrow to pass people. You feel like you have to hurry to keep the line moving. It’s probably the most popular plane in the museum. The sister plane is at the Regan museum in CA.

We went on a field trip here in about the third grade, and I remember our teacher stood awkwardly in front of one plane as we passed it, trying to block one of the more risqué artworks on the nose of the plane. Of course it just made us try really hard to see what she was trying to hide!

@13:35 the aircraft with the shark mouth nose art is a Curtiss P-40B Warhawk flown by the American Flying Tigers First American Volunteer Group (AVG). They saw a color photo in a newspaper of a shark mouth painted on a 112 Squadron P-40 fighter in North Africa and immediately adopted the shark-face motif for their own P-40Bs.

His plane was shot down during a mission in northern Italy. He was taken prisoner by the Nazis and transported to the city of Barth in northern Germany. He was freed by the Russians after six months in captivity.

There are 5 hangers due east on the field where the planes are restored. There is a movie about Memphis Belle. Very good movie and worth your time to watch. Once that plane got to Wright Patterson AFB it took 5 or more years to restore it to the original condition you see it in now. The items that POW's and Soldiers make during war are called Trench Art. That space shuttle mock up actually houses a flight trainer up front. Not sure if you walked thru the Enola Gay. It was one of the planes that dropped an Atomic bomb on Japan. I am sure if you did you would have showed it. Also they have the Hanoi Taxi C 130 that was used to bring home prisoners of war from Vietnam. Many other very historical planes are housed in a building they call the Annex that you have to get on a shuttle to go see.

Most of the airmen of WWI and WWII were 18 and 20 year old men overseas. So, many of the art was very colorful.

There is DEFINITELY a well-known movie called the Memphis Belle, n it is a legendary bomber that flew the MOST bombing missions throughout the entire time of WW2. You MUST see it. It us historical and AWESOME, with lots if 1980's stars in it like Matt Damon n his best friend Ben Affleck!!

Years ago they had several more Air Force Ones from other presidents that you could go in as well. The JFK Plane, had a plaque that showed you where they had to modify the plane to bring his casket on board. Just before you got off the plane, I think I saw the plaque on the left side, you can see Jackie Kennedy in the picture on the glass.
