    I do not routinely comment on TH-cam videos, but I am compelled to comment there to THANK YOU for finally solving what has been driving me absolutely crazy for the last 3 weeks. I fully rebuilt / replaced the carb and engine coil on my 13 year old PB-250. Started great, but bogged endlessly and never had consistent power. THEN is just started dying whenever I hit the throttle. I had this thing apart more times that J.Lo has been divorced, and as of yesterday was ready to throw in the towel and buy a new one. I found this video in a last ditch effort to save her, and within about 75 seconds, it's running like BRAND NEW again. Why was there no mention of this small set screw in ANY of the Carb instructions or Carb replacement videos??? Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars and saving my perfectly good blower from a landfill!

    Dude. I was extremely skeptical. I followed your instructions exactly and every single thing you said was true. The plastic plug came right out to my surprise. I turned the screw to the left and it ran like a top. Thanks so much. Saved me a trip to the small engine repair shop.

    I was looking for a lightweight blower for my deck. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxgioZQl3J5wPGAeDINzbieKbT5qomSEx3 There are some huge trees around my house and the leaves and pods drop all over my deck. Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.

    I see that your video was posted up 5 years ago. Today, it really did help me. My echo had been doing the same thing and that's because I had just picked it up from a repair shop. The man that repaired it, told me that the leaf blower was just too old. He had replaced carburetor, but the issue was bogging down. Because he had already replaced the carburetor, the rubber piece you use to heat up wasn't there making my repair extremely easy. I followed your instructions while pressing the trigger and wow, the leaf blower runs like new. Thank you so much for this video

    Thank you for the great tip/procedure! Also, for anyone who does not have the right tools: I didn't have the right size punch but a 5/64" allen wrench heated with a cig lighter worked well.

    Used a 3/32 punch (slightly round at the end is all I could find) and my cigar lighter, warmed the end of the punch up, and stuck the punch in the plastic whole, small sizzle and smoke, and after 2 minutes pulled that sucker out like a charm...Thank you! Now just waiting on the replacement coil to install to start my Echo PB 250 LN up again, and use a small screwdriver to adjust the carb.

    I was about to order a new carburetor. I bought the same leaf blower off of my neighbor for $20 dollars yesterday but it was doing the same thing. I adjusted the mix screw and it worked perfectly! Just had to turn it counter clockwise about 1 turn and a half. The little Plastic cover part of the screw was aggravating to get out so I just drilled it. Thank you so much!

    BRILLIANT. We have two of these in the family and both run too lean. They always start right up fine when it’s cold. BUTTT😡 then I have to play 1/4 choke games for 20 seconds to keep it running or it dies. Then it will finally run full throttle . Trouble is both of them are obviously not running anywhere near what should be full throttle ever. I can’t wait to give this a try. Thanks a million!!

    Thanks a million! My pb255 hasn’t run in a year.
    I’d replaced all seals, gaskets, bulb, lines, filters, spark plug and it wouldnt fill the primer bulb in 2019 but after all that it still wouldn’t run.
    Out of utter necessity I decided to give it another try again today.
    The primer bulb wouldn’t fill so the blower would only run for a short spurt and then shut off. I had the fuel lines to the carb backwards!Fixed that, it would run but would bog under load like your video shows.
    Thank goodness I found your video!
    I used the torch method to remove the black plug as you showed. Used the end of a small broken piece of a needle file I had laying around. I leaned out the mixture screw by turning counter clockwise just until it would run smooth at high rpm, not bog, had good transient throttle response and didnt smell dry, run too hot or sound like it was running lean.
    Kudos to you! This video got my tool up and running again. Many thanks. 🙏

    My father gave me this leaf blower right after he bought it because he didn’t like how it ran and I told him the carburetor just needed tweaking. I knew where the screw was but I was wondering why did they put a plug there. I think I can use an easy out to get it out. Nice video. 👍🏻

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yea a easy out would probably work. I think they put the plug there for emmisions reasons... but then when there's a problem like this, they don't want you to adjust it. This fix won't fix it every time.. but it will a lot of the times...

      It's for emissions and for the idiots who adjust it improperly and destroy the engine (that way they have more evidence of improper modification in case of a warranty claim).

      That's awesome! Also one thing I forgot to mention was sometimes the spark arrestor in the muffler can get clogged, so that's something to consider.

  • @ChezzyDirt
    @ChezzyDirt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Worked perfectly. I can now resume being the mad blower!
    I found a coarse screw turned into plastic cap worked as a puller, no problem.
    I think the screw vibrates out of tune with use as I needed to re-adjust every few blows.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that'll work great.. and you could be right about the vibration.. You could take that screw completely out and put a drop of lock tight on the threads, screw it back in and adjust it properly, then it should stay.. But then you'll have a hard time adjusting it again if atmospheric changes causes it to need adjusted again, so I don't really recommend it, but it's an idea.

    Same thing happened to me. Son tried to start the blower without the switch tuned to "ON" position so when I started the blower it almost sounded like a fouled plug. Replaced plug and same thing. Almost went to the Depot and picked up a new one but decided to google the problem and low and behold, I found you. The tip about putting a heated punch in the plastic plug is AWESOME. I tried this and it did work. I'm finding I have to keep adjusting almost every time I use the blower. Is that what everyone else is experiencing, too? At one point, I started adjusting the little hidden screw on the top of the carburetor. Do I just tape this flathead to my blower because it's always going to need to be adjusted to work?

      HI, I kept this blower for a little while after doing this and I didn't have any problems... Question; does the adjustment screw feel like it's turning really easy? Can you take note of exactly what position you left it in so you can see if it moves a little bit with vibration?

    Nice vid. The other critical thing to check on these bogging leaf blowers is the fuel supply line. That line is the one that goes into the tank with the fuel filter attached to its end. if it gets the slightest tear or hole or slit in it, it will suck air and have the same effect as carb needle being too lean. Simplest way to tell if it's a fuel line problem is that the primer bulb keeps running dry.

    Have the same blower; yesterday I took the carburetor apart and rebuilt it because I had a fuel leakage problem I couldn't find and decided to replace the seals, needle, spring, etc. Now when I cranked it up it idles good...almost too high though, and when I press the throttle all the way down I get that bogging down problem. Note: I ended up backing a long screw out of the throttle rotor assembly (black box on top) to remove it as part of the carb rebuild; which I didn't need to do (it lifts off without removing it) and can't remember exactly how tight it was turned (looks as it could be some type of carb adjustment?) and I wonder if that may be causing part of the problem. I may try your method and see if it helps, I hope so; a new carb for the blower cost about $78. Insane

    Thanks Rudy- what a great video!! worked like a charm on a Echo PB255 that I trash picked. I turned that set screw counterclockwise about 90-110 degrees and it worked like a charm. But what exactly did that set screw do to the carb? Does anyone know?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it's a fuel/ air mixture. I'm pretty sure if you backed it out counterclockwise it made the mixture more rich. I think turning it clockwise makes it more lean. I could have that backwards!..

    Great video my dear sir! Yea the manufacturers have made it hard by removing high and low fuel adjustment screws or caping them off to tune these little beasts. Epa regs.. thanks epa. They don't want us adjusting these cause we don't have the equipment to tune them in the field. They are afraid of running lean or rich.
    That is the high screw and opening it gives more air to the diaphragm pumping more fuel. Which it needed

      Yes this particular model wasn't built that great.. At least in my opinion. Most echo products are very good. Could be the carburetor, but no way to know without buying one. Then if it's not, it's wasted money. Could the engine be worn out? Maybe low on the compression? Just throwing it out there...

    • @JLPicard440

      It's possible this can happen even if it was running fine a few days ago. Sometimes atmospheric conditions can be all it takes to mess up the carb settings. If you're in a airplane you often times have to lean or richen the fuel as you go up and down in altitude, I'm not saying that's what's causing it, but it could be as simple as that.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI.. the screw adjusts the Fuel / Air mixture. Why does it happen out of the blue? That's a good question that I don't have an answer for. Usually it's set it and forget it, but they do get out of adjustment from time to time. I used to fly RC airplanes and you had to fiddle with those too every so often as many of those use weed-wacker size engines. You should have an idle screw that you can adjust to bring that idle down. You don't want the trimmer line going at high speed when you want to idle the engine.. Possibly if you left fuel in it over the winter that could account for the problem now? I usually like to get ethanol free gas, it seems to keep better than the regular pump stuff.. Lowes usually carries a version of it, but they want like $20 for a gallon can which is nuts.. Some gas stations will actually sell this for much less.. Another idea is a local airport. IF they'll sell you the 100LL fuel that airplanes use, that'd be a great alternative..

    Did not fix mine but was really hopeful that it would. Also if it did then it would not stay because it is so loose. I was expecting it to thread in and out like the old types but it appears to just rotate. I'm now at a loss here. Checked muffler inlet, outlet and spark arrester screen. They looked really clean. I disassembled the carb, sprayed carb cleaner in there and blew it all out with compressed air. It actually looked pretty clean in there too. Mine will not idle but it does run at full throttle but only maybe 1/2 or 2/3 of full RPM. I forgot to check the spark plug gap but it looked good at quick glance. I'll replace it with a new one because they are only $4 and yes I will check the gap before installing. One thing I did try was to run it at full throttle with the air filter off and mist it with carb cleaner. It did not seem to make any difference so either it is not fuel related or I need a stronger liquid like starting fluid or mist some fuel mixture in there. One thing that makes me lean towards it being a fuel issue is that it doesn't seem like any smoke is coming out of the exhaust and I know the oil/fuel ratio is good. The fuel is 90 octane ethanol free gas is less than a month old. My Echo trimmer runs great on it and it does smoke a little but not like it used to. Maybe whatever oil I'm using now doesn't smoke as much as the other oils?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow... sounds like you've tried everything I would have tried... How about the fuel line? Sometimes they can get a little hole in them and cause the engine to pull air in with the fuel and cause problems...

    • @TheSailingwoodworker
      @TheSailingwoodworker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I replaced the spark plug with a new one. It was only .024" gap when it should have been .027" so I adjusted it. The old one has the correct gap. No change in performance. I removed the in tank filter to see if it ran any better and it didn't help either. Then I ran it again without the air cleaner and sightly misted it with starting fluid and if I sprayed just right the RPMs went up a fair amount. Because of that result I went ahead and ordered a new OEM carb and fuel line/filter kit. Fingers crossed.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @charles6952
    @charles6952 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My PB 25cc backpack Blower I got for my grandson bogged immediately. It had 2 restrictor plates above the spark arrestor. 1st plate cut the exhaust port in half.2nd cut it in half again. I removed the second and the machine woke up. After some more research I hope to find I can remove the first and let it breath. The second is for noise restrictions and emissions for the left coast princess state. Exhaust restriction will foul a carbs delivery. Without allowing the exhaust to breath for any period will cause fouling. A quick remedy to increase RPM is to lean the engine to compensate for exhaust and intake fouling. Do the exhaust first and early. Then you should never have to lean the fuel air mixture.

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes leaning it could cause it to run hot. Not sure if those restrictor plates are a necessity. Race cars run with open headers so there's virtually no restriction, but sometimes a 2 cycle needs some back pressure to pressurize the fuel tank... so I can't be sure that you can remove both of those and get away with it. You could try it and see how it runs.. or a search of threads from google might reveal if you can remove both of them.

      @@JLPicard440 I only use it to blow off my driveway so it may sit two weeks at a time between cranks. I did check the spark arrestor screen and carb port for buildup. That looked very clean. The blower is only a couple years old. I use the Stihl 2.6 oz., 50:1 2 cycle oil. So that should be ok. I use staybill in my 5 gallon big can and go to a 1 gal. can from it.

      @@dougjohn45 Yea fuel wise you sound like you're taking care of things... I was going to suggest the spark arrestor in the muffler... Could be the carburetor, but hate to spend money since I'm just guessing.. Does the compression feel normal?

      @@JLPicard440 Yep Rudy, the compression appears to be normal and good. I'll tinker with it some today. With no more run time that it has, It's hard to believe something is worn out. Just an adjustment somewhere. With the symptoms it has, I can't believe it's not the adjustment screw just like yours. I'll try fresh gas just to eliminate that. It's possible the gas could be contaminated from the gas station.

    Rudy do we put the little piece back in or leave it out?

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would leave it out.. If you can put it back it might keep dust and stuff from getting in there, but I doubt if it really matters..

      Rudy I have the older one you mentioned with the high and low slots. How do I adjust one of those? Do you have a video with instructions on how to?

    I have an Echo 225 trimmer same thing you can also remove that brass plug because it is a limiter also by doing that you can remove the mixture screw also I run Sthil HP oil the stuff in the silver bottle it leaves no carbon deposits and you never have that black oily snot dripping from the muffler starts better and better throttle response

      Oh good to know. I was just at local Stihl dealer yesterday and got a silver bottle of oil. Sounds like it's the way to go... thanks for the tip!

    So I've changed the spark arrestor (needed it) and tried this. After changing the arrestor, my blower worked fine for about 30 minutes and then started dying again. I've tried adjusting the screw. The blower will start fine and run when on a flat surface but whenever I pick it up and move around it stalls out. I'm at my wits end. Any suggestions?

      @@JLPicard440 Thanks for the response. I actually just replaced the fuel line about a month ago as one was split and not connecting.
