Thank you so much for your video! I would like to know what are the CV essentials I need if I want to become a derm? Is it research? teaching experience?
Is Dermatology training dual training? For example, for Rheumatology you need to dual train in General Medicine and you have to do general medical oncalls and nights (in addition to Rheumatology clinics/ward duties). Is this the same for Dermatology training (e.g. when you become a Dermatology ST3+)? Many thanks.
Hi I'm a yr 10 student with predicted grades 7 and I just want to ask some questions 1. What A levels should I do 2. What are the characteristics needed for dermatology 3.is the work load hard 4.im a very lazy student who has terrible mental health would I survive 5.is there alot of debt after med school
1) Definitely chemistry, biology, math or physics 2) You need to have an eye for pattern recognition, attention to details and a passion for all skin related stuff :) 3) I think nothing in life is easy. All specialties, including Dermatology, have their own set of challenges I think speaking to someone about your mental health is crucial and knowing how to manage it is important regardless of which path you choose.
Can dermatologist do hair transplant surgery? Or is there any extra diploma done to be able to do hair transplant? What other laser treatments can a dermatologist do?
To my knowledge, I think it's only surgeons who do them. Do make sure of the following if looking for one in the UK. 1) The person doing it should be a practising physician who is registered with the GMC. Please check out: www.gmc-uk.org/registration-and-licensing/the-medical-register#searchTheRegister 2) They should be a member of the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery (BAHRS) as members have to uphold their practice to high standards.
Thanks a lot Dr. Chris. I'm an FY2 at the moment and have found a passion for dermatology throughout foundation, and medical school. I'm planning on applying for IMT in November for the 2024 August start. I will be powering through MRCP Part 1 and 2 for the rest of this year, and try my best to smash PACES before I start IMT. I'm hoping very much that I will have an opportunity in IMT to be more relaxed and put all my efforts into Audits, QIP and research to show my love for the field. Thank you so much for the kind advice in this video, I definitely will be looking back on in in a couple years time.
Thank you, very informative and detailed

Do check out my other video on the portfolio needed for Dermatology!
Is it competitive to get a job in Derm as clinical fellow? Was MRCp essential and how did u get it? Thanks
It is definitely getting more competitive and no, you don’t need MRCP to apply :)

Nope, Dermatology is classified as a group 2 specialty which means you don’t need to do general medicine/ dual training!

hello dr, do i have to have a research for my portfolio? what are the contents required for the portfolio
After failing initial interview how u get into derma clinical fellow?
As dermatology is now very competitive, how many years do most people get into training?
It depends on your situation but I believe people often take 1-2 years out of training before getting into Dermatology.
