Any chance you can remember what is was like 9 months ago and help someone out that's in that place. I'm trying to shorten the painful learning curve, not find short cuts, but you buy a machine and there are literally no step-by-step visual instructions. You're just left to "intuitively figure it out." I gotta believe there is a repetitive or redundant process and as someone else commented you really just need to KNOW-HOW to dial in your cut for the material you are using and repeat that process making adjustments along the way. Basically knowledge on HOW-TO dial UP or DOWN the power and speed. Would you be up for a screenshare, where you can see what I see and gimme the nickel tour? Any guidance would be appreciated.
I'll see you at LaserCON! I live in Vegas and am so excited for these files! I've been helped so much by your videos and your enthusiasm! I will look for you there!
good to see how one can setup your own test with different shapes but it seams a lot of work to do considering Lightburn already has the tools that you just adjust for all types of material Also to say store all your good burning settings into the library and make your own profile for each material that came out good
Hi I just got the xtool d1 pro with the 1064 and I don’t know how to use the 1064nm but I like your channel and want my kids to use it as well I’m still learning how to use the 20w laser thank you for all the help you provide
Thank you for the cut test. Nice layout and I used it. I like it for the looks with the puzzle pieces, being compact and its layout. But... I was told never to use a diode laser at 100% power as it shortens the lifetime of the diodes drastically For my 10W laser I changed the speeds to 1...7 mm/s and the power to 30...80% having 6 times 10% steps. The sweet spot speed power's found: (2,50) (3,60) (4,70), with the first one, 2mm/s@50%power coming out on top because of its clean cut; no hard fibers in the plywood to break manually.
That is something that has been disproven lately. Older diodes ran too hot and would fail more quickly if run at 100%. Newer designs have negated that.
Products having a lifespan, is a what drives the industry too, is a fact. And if a test shows that laser diodes keep on working with equal lifespan at 100%, I don't trust it immediately. So I take what you say with me, but with care.
So helpful! I just purchased a laser engraver (Xtool S1 20W) & it's been amazing! I was practicing on 20 oz tapered tumblers and I was doing great! But then I tried out the 40 oz tumblers I received and haven't had a good cut all around yet. It's been a struggle. Either the middle of the tumbler is perfect, the edges don't cut through, or vice versa. Could you do something like this with a tumbler?
Hi! I'm trying to figured out how to cut a half inch of wood, do you know the correct settings for it? unfortunately, the max power is only 100 which is the limit. any idea how to adjust it? greatly appreciated your feedback :) By the way, I am using Genmitsu L8 laser engraver.
100% power is as high as it goes. You'll need to experiment with multiple passes. Also you may need to lower your laser on subsequent passes to keep the focal length correct.
@@BuildDadBuild I see, so meaning I need to make more passes ? I don't have any issues with engraving on wood. but I don have trouble in aluminum material. I just need to figured out how cutting works on thicker material. Thanks for your answer anyway.
Hey I have a question I have a 20 w x tool D1 and also I have light burn software. My question is I im have trouble need help. I can't cut through a 1/8 inch plywood. I have to do like 7 passes just to do one inch circle. On 3 speed and 100 percent power. And I want to know how can I get the most power of lightburn I went through settings but it goes back to default. Maybe you could show me how I go about that. Thank you
I have a vevor 5w. In Lasergrbl you have to choose your machine at one point. This one is not on the list. Is there a default machine that will run mine?
Hi just seen your vid on laser engraving and cuts do you have any settings advice for an Algo laser 20 wt and how do i get the file from you to download cheers J
I upgraded my D1 non pro 10w to 20w and it's doing a strange thing. When its cutting out a box it moves to the left a bit first them cuts making the box the right size but not in the right place, did not have this problem with the 10w, any suggestions? Thanks in advance,
Thanks for sharing these files, fairly new to the laser game and been searching around for tutorials etc love the videos. Just got a quick question regarding your files on the engrave is there a reason you've used a gradient image. Reason for asking is other tutorials I've seen simply just use the material test feature inside lightburn and that would just fill the boxes up
I used the cut test on my WeCreat 10W and it did not cut through on ANY of it. I did the engrave test and it seems to have worked well. But I can not get my WeCreat to cut with Lightburn. What am I doing wrong? I would love to send you a picture of my test. I know this video is a year old but I hope you still see it.
@@BuildDadBuild I finally got it to work. It was one little setting I didn't have. I cut out your puzzle material test and it worked great. Thank you. Now I just have to figure out the numbers and how to enter them. My WeCreat 10W cuts 3mm birch plywood at 200 speed and 100 % power! That was a huge discovery last night for me. Thank you for your video!
So I’m running the test files on my machine and it cut the square around it but that’s all it’s acting like it’s doing the rest but nothing is showing up.
always like your videos, although what you just used as filler for 8 minutes of video, you could have done with Lightburn's / in less than 30 seconds. Just sayin'
That tool leaves a lot to be desired. I only use it in a pinch. And this video was to help folks understand Lightburn. If you’re such a guru maybe it wasn’t for you. Cheers
The real conspiracy clickbait is that they actually want you to do this but don't want you to know that Lightburn super easily makes a material test grid under laser tools menu and have a grid made with minimal effort. Clickbaitception
this guy is just looking for clicks… nobody is keeping any information from anyone. no manufacturer hides features that add value and usability to their product from its customers
I just use material test under laser tools and adjust as I like!
Being newish to laser, this video helps a lot. Everyone says test files, but nobody ever explains what they are or why.
Thank you for the test files. I just got my laser 3 weeks ago and I'm having a devil of a time getting up to speed with it so these will help a lot!!
Sweet!

You can use the same test patterns on tumblers. And always should with new material.

Sounds like you have a focus problem. The 20W D1 should cut 1/8 in one pass no problem.
I have a vevor 5w. In Lasergrbl you have to choose your machine at one point. This one is not on the list. Is there a default machine that will run mine?
I honestly know nothing about LaserGRBL. So I don’t know the answer.

Thanks so much Nick!!

Link for the file is in the description. I'd run a speed and power grid for any material you're new to.
Hi Nick, do you have a file for the we creat?
I do not.
where did you get your laser dark paint, you didn't say in your other video ?
Laser dark.com
Thanks for the test files..:)
Thank you for the files 🥰🥰
Can I use your test files on slate or anodized aluminum if I modify the size?
Sure

Why not the laser calibration tool built into light burn?
Have you used it? That thing sucks.

Increase the power for the labels.
I learned a few features watching this vid but there is already a tool for this built into lightburn.
And if you’ve ever used it. That tool sucks.
@@BuildDadBuild I have used it several times and it worked great. What didn't you like about it?
Can't label, isn't very customizable.
Im trying to cut a map with small details and it keeps getting to hot what am i doing wrong
Either going to slow or burning too hot.
