  • Welcome back to Sunny Isle! The tropical island city that lies on the Caribbean Sea. In this episode, we focus on maximising the use of our starting tiles to manage our population boom, create new jobs with specialised industries and tackle unemployment. We upgrade essential services, including waste management with a new incinerator plant by taking out a loan and purchasing our first new tiles for the city. Creating a city growth pattern that is both organic and realistic.

    1. Love the intros for this series!
    2. I think Overcharged Egg had an issue with groundwater pollution on this map because the groundwater deposits are so big.
    3. The incinerator area looks nice. I like the details with the farms.

    Writing as watching:
    16:30 Yes, roundabout is causing congestion but a good portion is due to cars stopping for pedestrians. May be worthwhile (if available) to upgrade bridge to highway and place pedestrian bridges to bridge the roads and river.
    21:00 Dairyhouse surprisingly causes a more than insignificant amount of ground pollution. Swapping out the row home housing across the road for commercial may be a good idea as a buffer.
    43:30 Need to set the Landfill to unload (will move waist over to the incinerator for power generation), or turn it to off. Also it isn't a bad point (even if a bigger loan was required) to connect the incinerator to the external connection and use the landfill waste to make extra power for export.
    54:45 Interestingly the road name of "only bridge" is Bridge Road. (For the future when you can) In regards to traffic, ignore the Hway bridge suggestion above, replace Bridge Road bridge with a pedestrian only road (trams, taxi, bus can still use) and create two one way road bridges, one a block up-stream and one a block down-stream.

    In riverhill, I feel a water tower next to a farm would look good. More parks throughout could possibly help simplify health. As they get excercise.

    44:30 (the garbage/trash issues at pumping station) This has been dwelling on my mind since I first watched this vid, so had to do a re-watch. Others have found that there may be a bit of a bug in the path-finding for the trucks heading out to municipal or large buildings, meaning they get ignored to the point of being overloaded. Typically the buildings effected seem to be on the end of dead-end roads, or at the end of a through one-way with a number of large waste producers on the same road before them. Could go into an explanation but a solution probably is more worth while. One you probably don't want to do is remove Pump Lane, move the pump station to the main road, and put the pedestrian path around behind it. Second, extend Pump Lane past the pump station, around the farm (borders may need moving), and join into the back of the suburb area, so its a through road.

      Hi David, great to hear from you! I've been pondering a solution as well, involving all the essential city services. My idea is to use the district tool to segregate them into smaller zones. Then, we could repurpose the obsolete landfill site to exclusively serve them using the dedicated districts function. What's your take on this?

      @@SunnyScunny Are yet to see anyone do it this way but can't see why it shouldn't work. Essentially the landfill is just being a high capacity transfer and storage station for the incinerator. Might be worth a quick trial : pause, make save 1, set up zones, make save 2, unpause, go do something for a bit, come back and check results. If ineffective go back to save 2 and try to work out why, or just forget it and resume from save 1. If effective resume from save 2.
      Later on if you zone the other services (especially fire, police, death and health) supply areas do remember about services zones or it could be problematic (burn down, high crime, .... ).

    The parks are bugged (confirmed by CO) where they attract homeless people from outside connections. You end up with thousands of criminals very quickly (and more than your total population). You either need the bye homeless mod or delete all the parks until CO can patch it next month

    Just curious, all of your thumbnails look like the game is in an isometric view. Are you modifying these in photoshop for that effect, or is there an in-game developer setting, or rendering option to enable isometric. I would love to see a mod that enables isometric in Cities 2.

      In photo mode, go to the first tab and increase the field of view (FOV) for the isometric effect. Unfortunately, this setting is not available in the regular gameplay mode
