Is it bad to admit that the most relatable bit of the entire video is the anger and confusion at sewage icons popping up followed by quiet and concealed thoughts of, "Oh ya. Sewage outlet, not water intake, one sec"? 😂 Fantastic video, Biffa!
As someone who watches Biffa, Spiff, AA, RCE, and more - this felt like one big mashup of all their styles. I liked it, but I like Biffa's usual way too :)
@@DakotaActually Probably shouldn't blame Biffa as the trend (aka audience) is to watch heavily edited short videos (10 mins to 20mins) rather than PL (Play a Longs) of "old" (circa 2013). Plus YT put ads on these videos with premiums more than longer vids. You either have two choices nowadays on YT: 1) Livestreams with an archive channel for them and maybe cut your livestreams into short form vids. 2) Do short format video (10 to 20mins) with shorts (1 min) (aka Edited "reels" as we call them).
This is actually a really useful representation of how CS2 works at a deeper surface level. There were some points in this video, especially how to deal with high rent I wasn’t totally aware of and received a really simple but useful explanation on how to deal with it. Great video 🤙
I also started a one-tile challenge myself... But I did it differently: First I placed 3 coal power plants and then removed them again. This allowed me to reach the next level. Then I bought a completely new map tile at the end of the map, which also has highway and electricity connections.
me too, i got up to 15k and 12% unemployment. unemployment is a big issue since you have so little room for schools, but need jobs filled up so people will move in (poverty makes cities less enticing). how did you go?
I love this style of video biffa, I think it would be even better if you split up the commentary with occasional live gameplay so we get a bit of both worlds!
Good stuff, but surely you didnt need to make such a small grid pattern...even just going up to 4x6 iwould have given you back some precious zoning squares. Loved the story stlye narration!
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines Definitely smaller! Love your content, love the potential of this game, love the narrating you did in this video. Keep doing the awesome stuff you're doing over here ✌️
Love this idea and decided to try it out myself. I'm up to 3k citizens so far. I ended up with 2x2 buildings since it seemed most efficient, but did some things different. Such as I used a transformer and just import my electricity.
love it when ,,high density office are in play, ``we are starting getting more jobs`` clicks on the building and then ; one guy just quits his job :))))) 18:55 onward`s. Love the content man. bless
Just starting the video, but I wonder how using a single road going in a spiral pattern to the centre would work for this challenge. Would suck having to drive to the literal centre of town to turn around though !
I think real civil engineer tried something like that in cs1, with expected hilarious results! I think cs2 is a little different for cars turning.. I'm pretty sure I've seen them using car parks to u-turn!
Great vid! My only criticism is that you could've maximised your available space by leaving a 2 square gap for more buildings between the peripheral road and the outside border! 😉
He could also get a lot more space by not make a grid but make a striped road layout. Buildings don't need access to two roads, and could remove all horizontal (or vertical) roads to unlock more space for buildings instead of roads.
Really cool way to build a city. Seems like a good way to get that "downtown" city blocks feel while allowing for a very detailed city as you expand out.
I love the narrative in this one a lot Biffa! Great effort and a great video!! I am truly curious how big ou could make this without a university though. Highly doubting megalopolis if i'm honest. But curious!!!! We want more compactburg!
Wow! This is amazing! Like 'Mythbusters' you have really taken this absolutely as far as possible! Dedication to your craft, and a great and moving saga video!
I've been meaning to watch this for ages Looking forward to it 👍 I got a copy of this for Christmas but haven't managed to play more than an hr so far Love tte content as always Thank you
I like how causal BIFFA usually makes his videos, although this style was "higher budget", one of the reasons why i like BIFFA, is his casual, yet extremely informed and well-made videoes. I think i prefer the older style of vids.
Let's talk about optimizing this setup. You start with 75x75u, meaning 5625u in total. The outer roads take (((75x2)x4)-4x4)u = 584u. Your planned grid had a 1u road every 4u. The inner dimension of the ring was 73u, so 14,6 blocks. These roads would span the whole 73u, and intersect the same ammount. I'll round to 14, so (((73x14)x2)-14x14)=1848u. That means you are losing 2432u to roads with current layout. I guess you could replace the ones not bordering the city entrance with 1u roads, gaining (73x2)-1u = 145u. But more importantly, I guess you can easily reclaim most of your road layout by increasing grid size to 8x4, meaning 1 road every 9-10u in one axis and the same 14 road layout on the other axis. This would mean (((73x14)+(73x9))-14x9)=1553u. The more you can strech this concept, even if you need to add some kind of infrastructure as bike or metro, the more area you end up with. Also, I question if 2x2 is the most efficient lot size for every single zoning type. Maybe larger industrial, commercial, or higher density zones will disproportionatelly generate more households or employment. Unfortunatelly, I can't test this theory. Also, I guess importing energy might be the way to go, since it uses less space than the enormous power plants. Later, incineration plants might be useful, since they deal with garbage and power at the same space usage.
Loved the vid. Hopefully you take this as a great success and do another vid surrounding your new dense core. You could have made this twice as long and I'd be thrilled. Thanks as always, and Happy Holidays to you and yours! 😊
Very cool! The final density (with 6000 people) was about 14,662 people per km2, which is about right for a reasonably dense neighborhood of a large city. Paris city proper is 20,000 for reference.
Ah... somewhat Biffing Sprit about this one. Nice alter ego there fella. Shame about the need for a train and subway depot otherwise you could have outside rail connections and a subway too. I loved that because there was such little available parking in the city that the cim were all parking up along the access road, the cheeky little dears. You're far too kind; I'd've made that no-parking!
What a fun challenge! However, 8x8 square grid (well 8.5x8.5 when including the road) takes up too much space. You could eliminate some roads and squeeze in more zoning. Think linear cities back to back to back or concentric squares like a Russian nesting doll
As a swede i got REALLY confused when you said Magnus Opus. Asked my missus and she scratched her head as much as me. So to google i adventured, i just had to figure that one out. Now i see why you used magnus, hehe =D
I think we need to discuss the traffic thats using the intersection of Broad Street and Hillside Lane at 11:46 though. I mean, maybe they're trying to 'park' ?
