Stop worrying about what other people think in regards to how you help your mum, just do what you feel is right regards if she has any problems with how she lives her life, I know you don't ever say what problems she has, we all know she has issues and has had a hard life, just be there and help with some food and what ever she needs, been a blast watching over the years, love from bonnie Scotland

Had a good laugh at the modern-day bellows Denis uses to get the coals hotter. Только в России... 🤣 Шашлык is often made with pieces of pork or veal, from my understanding...but can be anything on a skewer. And in Wisconsin where I live, grilling is a year-round venture and very much part of the local culture. As for your relationship with Tat'iana, you continue to do really amazing things and are being true to your kind, generous spirit by loving and supporting her the way you do. This is YOUR journey with her and with your birth father, and I love how you're creating it as you go. You truly are a shining beacon of inspiration. Thank you for sharing that with all of us!

Please ignore any and all criticism about your reconnecting with your birth parent's. It is obvious your New Zealand parents have raised you well. It is obvious you love them and are grateful for the life they gave you--which you would not have had in Russia as an orphan, most likely. But your birth parent's also had a hand in making you. And it is 100% normal to want a relationship with them. You have a wonderful birth father and his wonderful wife. And a beautiful relationship is budding with your younger sister and brother. There is 100% nothing wrong with that. I think it is beautiful. It just expanded your family that's all. And I think it is a testament to your parent's for raising you to be kind and loving and forgiving. Your relationship with your birth mother is incredibly touching. She was not adopted by loving parent's like you were. You have recognized that and let forgiveness flow from you to her. That is so special. You are helping her to heal little by little from all the hurt and rejection and neglect she experienced in her life. Really what good would hate and unforgiveness do you? Worse than nothing. It would eat you alive and keep you bitter and unhappy. What if you didn't pursue a relationship with them? Your life would not be a full as it is now. Sure you could be happy just staying In New Zealand and ignoring your Russian side. But it wouldn't be as rich and full and encompassing. I am an adoptive Mom to a girl from Russia. I hope someday my daughter will be able to find her birth family. I hope she can have a relationship with them. I hope if she found her birth mom in a bad way, she would help her birth mom. This doesn't mean she wouldn't be appreciating my husband and I and for the life we gave her. In fact in my opinion, it shows she was taught well how to be a beautiful human being like you were!

Your birth mom's rough lifestyle is what she is used to, she's always only known that, just knowing you care about her is healing her from the inside out.
I came from a rough childhood, it is truly healing to have someone truly care.
You are so considerate to not discuss her struggles while still connecting the dots for all of us. Your parents must be true angels cause they reared you with great ethics.

THANK YOU for doing all that you can do for your birth mother. My mother had 2 boys long, long before I came along in the world. She was a teen mother and during the time (late 60s, early 70s) she chose to give up her babies for adoption. They are my half-brothers, and they have no interest in connecting with Mom as they hold a lot of grievances towards her for giving them up. In the end it is between them and her, but when I see how much you love your mother and want to be apart of her life, I think it shows a lot of selflessness, maturity and empathy coming from your side. It's beautiful. I think that although no Mother really wants to give up her children for adoption, sometimes it's best way for child to have a chance to grow up in a stable, loving home if the birth mother knows she can not provide that for her baby. It warms my heart to know there are still people like you in this world who have a heart and care for their Mum. I have an unborn child in heaven, I named him Beau, he is tattooed on my arm and I've cried about him everyday for over 2 years now. There is no pain quite like the pain a mother feels being separated from her child. God Bless You!!!

Alex, Maybe it would be great for her to see a psychologist? Looks like she has always felt lonely with nobody to protect her and it gave her this self rejection... Plus the guilt of abandoning you. That's why she may drink. In the video you met her for the first time in 2013 you gave her a necklace and she answered "I'll put it on later". May look like she doesn't care about your gift. But personally I saw that she was really embarrassed, because she felt like she didn't "deserve" it. Another thing, people who lived through the terrible 90s, a real genocide of Russian people, keep that traumatism for their whole lives. Especially those, like her, who had nobody to help them

Mental health is still very stigmatized in Russia which is why many people are reluctant to seek help in that regard, but also psychologists are not as available as in other countries, especially if you dont live in a bigger city. Its a shame really, as I do agree that she most likely needs profession help.

How much has your Russian actually improved now that you got to spend a few weeks (months?) in Russia? Do you understand more?
I learned German by spending a year in Germany living at a host family and I remember that after the first two-three months I was there I noticed a considerable improvement in my understanding

    We use this for.....shashlik...XD
    That was funny.
I think you laugh, sometimes, like russians do....and have "russian vocal cords", so to speak, to my impression....like a russian who's learned English really well (with that New Zealand/Australia accent, of course.).
