As a Russian-New Zealand adoptee, adopted at the age of two from an orphanage in Arkhangelsk, Russia, I share what I've been learning on my journey with my upbringing here in New Zealand, my current life, and how I connected with my birth family. I also share what my bloodline means for me with those connections from Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

I picked up on your father's concern about "regrets" and I think you really need to tell him in private that there are no regrets and only happiness.

Life is a strange thing. Did you ever imagine you would be where you are now, discovering, meeting, and spending your birthday with a family you never knew you had? Wonderful people who love you? It's like you've discovered an entirely new part of yourself that was missing. So, so happy for you. Beautiful family.

I've mentioned it to you before, and I'll say it again.......continue working very hard on learning the Russian language. I realize you know how important it is, however as someone who is almost 70 years old, I'm here to tell you, it is more important than you can understand right now. When your dad grows old and passes away, you will then have no regrets you tried your level best to speak to him in his native tongue whereby your words can truly express your love to the fullest.

I turned 29 yesterday. I met my birth father last year for the first time. Keeping a relationship with my birth father gave me the healing I've been looking for. I'm happy for you Sasha

Gee, I wish this for my son. One day, I pray that he will get to go to Russia and meet his family in person. He's known practically his whole life, but we never got over there.

Your gonna love your 30’s it is better than your 20’s. It seems like life becomes more stable and your finally are looked at as an adult and not a “kid” looking to extend adolescents.
Its amazing how you are all trying to communicate with each other and learning each other's language as you all have something to say but hard at the same time. Amazing to watch and thank you to you and all your family for letting us see your honest journey.

His heart is so loving and kind. I remember when the first video when he picked you up when you are tall man. And how he calls your biological mother mama and then her name. It gives her that respect to he is such a kind man his heart is so loving generous for giving he seems genuinely concerned for you for your biological mother for your adopted parents how grateful and thankful he is that you found him and he hopes that you do not regret it. He has a wonderful man. You are blessed in the hardship of finding that you had so much love everywhere. Sometimes hardest situations bring love that we didn't even know was there. So amazing

Hello! Yes even though my full name is Sasha Alexander Gilbert, Sasha also is a more informal and friendly version of Alex :)
In Russia you call an Alexander always Sasha, as a short form. Like you say Alex in other countries 😅 its the same with Michael and Misha
