- Today we are spotlighting the Nintendo DS Lite which is still amazing almost 20 years after it initially launched. The Nintendo DS Lite is a great budget handheld for gamers looking to relive their childhood or gamers who are looking to explore the vast Nintendo DS Library.

What a coincidence just bought a used one with a bundle of games earlier this week. DS library is incredible and GBA backwards compatibility is a wonderful feature too
Nice! What games are you looking forward to playing?
Came with Professor Layton Curious Village & Diabolical Box but also looking forward to getting and playing the Advance Wars games for DS & GBA too
just picked up a ds lite about 2 weeks ago. completely forgot how amazing this thing was. i also had the blue OG and it was a dinosaur. great vid
This video literally came out the same day I bought a ds lite, it was a coral pink, what a coincidence!
Some of the greatest Castlevania games ever made came out here. Also Rocket Slime is hella fun. Great video Jerm!
I know you’re a die hard castlevania fan, pretty sure they did a collection release on switch not long ago. I’ll have to checkout rocket slime, thanks dude!
ive mostly been using my new 3ds XL to play gba and ds games but my goodness the new 3ds xl expensive.... still prefer my ds lite for de games because the resolution look a lot better :P
it was my first handheld console too with an R4 card and itll always hold a sweet spot in my heart! great video
I got a Japanese one my brother got while stationed in Japan. Its completely region free.
Great video! DS Light is such a great console! 🔥
Thanks man, I’m impressed with how well it holds up
Been playing 7th Dragon with a fan translation. Very much and old school jrpg. People disagree a lot on the difficulty, id say once you get the hang of it and into the gameplay loop its not too bad. The key is having a party that works off each others skills, AND you effectively choose abilities in their respective trees.
Im having a lot of fun with it, and its nice to play a game that doesnt hold your hand with the mechanics, imho its challenging enough to be fun, but not frustrating.
DSi XL is my preferred way to play DS games - bigger, IPS screens which still look great to this day!
I have a DS, I play on it all the time. I carry one around with me a lot to serve as my little entertainment device on the go, like a phone does for most people. I have the same sort of r4 cartridge mentioned in the video and I have tons of roms of it, a good number of them homebrew stuff and romhacks. If you think mobile games suck like I do, get a DS and some games somehow. I'm currently playing through Mario and Luigi - Partners in Time, and it has been great.
R4 cards make bringing a DS on the go even better. Nice to hear others out there also prefer stuff like this over modern mobile games on phones
Slowly people are catching on. I sold a few of them recently 80-100 with a couple low dollar games…it’s honestly the best way to play gba games…although I do like a SP for gba games.
Much respect man, hope your well.
Yeah the DS lite is a great way to play GBA games and often cheaper than a mint SP.
Appreciate it bro, hope you and the family are well also!
trying, just had a good friend pass away, also been dry out here…next few videos is just me hustling GameStop and getting new release titles. Yard sales are dry but still I’m managing.
Sorry to hear about your friend. Looking forward to your new videos man
@ thanks man…and ya know I gotta keep going…no quiting for me…I’m going to keep hunting until all I’m finding is digital games lol
The sp sucks for actual playability
perfect timing, just ordered one on ebay
Just got a pink DS and also bought a copy of Super Mario 64 DS
I have a DS Lite I also got in a game swap, also really beat up. I gotta reshell it, and an Everdrive or EZ-Flash Omega would also be a great shout out for those who also wish to play GBA games (BONUS: the EZ-Flash Omega has an extra faceplate that allows it to sit flush with the DS Lite, meaning nobody can snatch your GBA cartridge).
I traded a pretty beat up copy of Sonic adventure 2 on GameCube for mine, the vendor and I both got what we wanted. I’ll have to take a look at those GBA flash carts.
Who's snatching your gba cart? What are you 5?
@@NintenDub maybe he was joking...from design and ergonomic point, i would love to have a cartridge at same size as the default cover fake cartridge, as it will not stick out like the GBA cartridges
Nice sir i also bought ds lite too back in six month ago👍
Hey you could also use a gba flashcart as well for the bottom slot as this wasnt mentioned so you could have both libraries for a cheap price sort of the gba flashcarts quality ones are a lot more expensive id do a online payment plan on something like a everdrive. Did this with a new 3ds that was already modded. Paid 50 a month for 300 but i just paid most of it the 2nd or 3rd month. Was worth it. 3ds is the ultimate deal for modded with almost access to any nintendo handheld game.
My top recommendations are Draglade and Solatorobo hope you get to play those two both are awesome
Appreciate the recommendations!
I always hated the DS Lite compared to the original DS. The GBA slot doesn't fit the games, the build feels flimsy and the hinges have a high failure rate, the L and R buttons feel much worse, it fits worse in the hands and the dpad is worse. I always see all this love for the DS Lite, but I've always thought it was the worst DS model lol.
Amazing video, it's always great to see more love for the DS. The worst way to play DS in my opinion is still a way to play the amazing DS library!
Thanks for watching, the DS definitely deserves more love/attention. The 3DS has really overshadowed the DS in recent years
R4 card is great, modding a dsi is also a good option. If you want to go a step further the dsi xl has dual ips screens. I prefer the smaller size of dslite and dsi though.
If you’re going to go the r4 route anyway, I’d just get a 2ds for a lil more and have an even bigger library to play. My 2ds was only 70 bucks
crazy to think ds and mario 64 came out 20 years ago
my biggest fear is that the ds lite will reach gameboy advance prices
I hope not, GBA SPs are ridiculous nowadays
Don't worry they will. The scumbags ruin everything they touch
Give it a few more years.. months maybe, and people like Phoenix Resale or RetroRick will come and snag all the good deals to resell on Amazon.
It will with time unfortunately
That's why i already bought and repaired some ds lites for me and my friends so we can always play our childhood games together
I recommend the Mega Man Star Force series, especially the 3rd game
Was literally gonna buy a new ds lite as soon as this video dropped
I love my ds systems, ive been taking mine to work to play on breaks and its been so good for turning my brain off lol
Love the quick play sessions that DS games offer, perfect for breaks 👍
Today the best choice is the DSi due to gbarunner and it has a slightly bigger (unless u have an XL) and better screen, no r4 needed just an SD.
to note that also the processor in DSi has double the power of DS LITE....
I use an application to read EPUB books in DSi...and i tested also in DS LITE and at some books is crashing [DSi is working smooth]
I use my DS Lite for the GBA version of DKC2 :D
I never know chibi robo that well until i tried out chibi robo clean sweep. Easily the best game for ds with great touch control and overall package. Not many game that i glued so much and finish within few day (botw also). If you can just buy dsi because you can still play gba dump with gbarunner2
Man you gotta try COD DS Online! It's pretty decent
I’ve never even tried COD on DS, I’ll have to give it a shot eventually man haha
you should play band hero games on the ds and also lego rock band and also elite beat agents
It's a great console, and has 2 consoles into 1. Great deal, if you ask me. I have one.
I love the DS
lmao i have a modded 3ds but got curious so just picked up a nds ml on aliexpress along with a r4 with a samsung 64gb sd card and a copy of a hacked pokemon game called Pokeduel.. Total for all was $60 cant beat that price if everything runs as it should
❤
