    I kind of miss these type of products: kid-friendly companies taking an existing device and revamping the whole thing for kids to use.
    6 year old me would've *adore* this device, and I wasn't even that deep into Disney at that time.
    Now we got phones and tablets designed for kids, but I wish another company steps up and take over PCs and Chromebooks.

    • @katanah3195
      @katanah3195 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I remember an entire video game system that had little kid friendly games, controllers built for tiny hands, and was sold more as an educational toy for toddlers and preschoolers than a game system for older kids or the whole family... kind of ahead of its time, my family didn't know anyone else who owned one, and finding proof it even existed besides my own memories of playing on it was harder than I expected it to be. It was interesting because it was a cartridge based system well after disc based became the standard, and because the home console that needed a TV and the portables took the exact same cartridges, and in addition to the standard controllers built for rather small hands, they also sold an even more "little kid sized"/accessible controller that had the small buttons bigger and laid out differently and requiring less force to press.
      I'm pretty sure the only reason we bought one was because it had a much better selection of official Winnie the Pooh games than any proper adult/family console (and Mum and Dad knew from the computer games they bought me, only Pooh Bear video games were really worth buying as far as money spent to hours enjoyed ratio), and the way the cartridges worked meant not needing to buy the games twice to have them both on the home unit and on the portables we eventually got. Also, it was for me and my brother to share, and he was kinda the target age of the kid friendly controllers, so anything else with more complex controls would be a bit unfair to him...

    8:11 OH MY GAUUUOAA I remember that Magic Desktop programmm It was this software that limited the functionality of the pc and was almost like a separate os but in the form of an app, it served the purpose of limiting what a child could do with the pc and you could buy a liscense for full access to some features but omg I'm having the deepest flashbacks right now when you won a game it would take you to this final score screen with fireworks booming and i was just so fascinated by them aaa. I'm 16 now but was no older than like 4 with the ability to read and use a keyboard when I was spending hours on end using Magic Desktop drawing and playing all sorts of flashlike minigames It's not really something up this channel's alley since it's target audience was parents and small kids but I guess it was significant enough that some parent with an out of box disney xp decided to set it up for their kid to use

    17:14 Starting with either Windows 2000 or XP, Microsoft changed the "My XXX" user folders into NTFS directory junctions (per default it redirects to a hidden folder named XXX without the my-part in the user directory), if your program uses the built in stuff from the comctl libraries Windows will translate that stuff for you automatically, but if your program implements bespoke file browsing, the programmer has to code in awareness for directory junctions and symbolic links or this will happen.
    Edit: Also, looks like there is no support for Windows "libraries" feature either, that is the thing where you can combine several folders into one, combining public/shared and private my pictures folders for instance, that would be a great thing for Pix to have.

      @CharlieRAnimaMX ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Even more difficult than programming them, was later explaining to your parents and uncles that the "My xyz" folder [in Vista, 7 and later] no longer Exists now they are simply called the same but without "my".
      we are almost finished 2022 and to date I continue to see how they suffer to find the folders because although there is a button on the start menu or quick access with "Documents", but they continue looking for "My documents" (and I have even seen them directly create a new folder with the My... on desktop) - Worse when they save their stuff in the "my folder" but a default program saves it in the only "folder" and they don't find it
      -It's weird but curious how they have so ingrained the "my" that they can't live without it even though the name is the same.

      @@generallyunimportant May have to do with the times where the corresponding OSes were used. In the 95 times it was more common to have a "familiy computer" or otherwise shared PC. So "My" computer wouldn't have made a lot of sense to many people.
      Later, more people had their personal computers, so "My" computer made perfect sense. Today multiple computers/devices are common, so "This" computer may be better than "My" computer.

      The sample photos issue is because that folder lives in the All Users pictures folder on XP. User profiles had a plain old a .lnk shortcut to it in the user's pictures folder when the profile is created. The folders were renamed to remove the "My" and had junctions added in a later version of Windows (was either Vista or 7 I think)

    The reason why the Sample Pictures didn't show up on Disney Pix is because it's a shortcut to the actual folder in the Public Pictures folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\My Documents\My Pictures) and not an actual folder and the Disney Pix program only showed picture file formats

    I have also used a 2009 Sony VAIO netbook which came pre-installed with Windows XP Home Edition until it broke in 2018. I also thought why it came with Windows XP if it was released in 2009. It could also run Windows 7 and Vista. I couldn't manage to install Windows 10 on it due to NX support required. It had an Intel Atom processor

    I had the regular same spec Eee PC 900HA. In terms of performance it was ok for the time. Only letdown was they used a first gen single core Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz CPU that was in terms of performance very slow. Only real update you could do on these was upgrade the ram from 1gb to 3gb by installing an additional 2gb DDR2 module and install a larger HDD.
