    Hey I’ve got an OBS 7.3 too. I learned how to correctly cold start it a month ago by doing some research. So I had thought that you’ve gotta cycle the glow plugs but you don’t. When the wait to start light goes off the glow plugs are still on. They’re on for 2 minutes overall even after it’s started they’re srill on to help it warm up. So what you do is you count to 30 or 40 seconds after the light goes off and she’ll fire right up. Worked with mine when it was 5° not plugged in. Let me know if it works!

    You should fill the high pressure oil area with new oil and you won't have a hard time starting it to fill it up.

    Is there a reason you don't measure the amount of oil in the high pressure resevoir and then pour an equal amount of the new oil into it through the hole?

    The 7.3 takes 15 quarts of oil, not 16, so one quart less than a a full four gallons. This includes the pre-filled oil in the new filter. Important to know your specs.

    Put fresh oil on the fuel filter gasket every time you change the fuel filter.Diesel fuel is not a lubricant and can make the gasket bind and be hard to remove.

    • @sowaIloveCO
      @sowaIloveCO ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting point. I used diesel fuel. Are you suggesting that it will be hard to get the fuel filter loose next time I change it?

    • @AndyRock1
      @AndyRock1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That high pressure oil is fed by the normal oil pump to keep its resivoir full. Only thing you're doing by not emptying it, is mixing a quart of old oil with 4 gallons of new...

    I enjoyed your video and wish you would've shown the oil filter removal--it's at a slight angle and I always spill some oil when removing it and was wondering if you have any tricks to prevent oil spilling when turning off the old filter. I've got a 1997 F350 7.3 and I never knew about the high pressure oil removal and I've put close to 100,000 miles on my truck without ever changing it. It's been running with a "hiccup" at times at highway speeds for the last 10K miles and I'm hoping in changing the high pressure oil that issue will cease. Thanks for the great videos you produce!!

      Mike Snyder I know this is old, but simply pop a hole in the bottom of the oil filter and drain it as well into the pan, a good tip that can be used on any vertical mounted oil filter.
