Is being a furry immature? Short answer: No Long answer : Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Being a furry is not immature at all to me. It's been a wonderful hobby, an inspiration to me as an artist, and makes me happier than anything else to be a part of. A lot of adults can still enjoy cartoons, comic books, and other things some might say are immature. Yet if it makes you happy and isn't hurting anyone the continue to do what makes you happy. It was great to see this video and welcome back.
i ve been furry and furry artist for over 25 years. and trust me, i have been called all sorts of things for being furry, and here i am, 46 years old, and prouder than ever for being part of the best community ever.
When I hear that charge of being childish as a furry or a Sanrio fan, I refer bas a boomer to a quote attributed to CS Lewis. “Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” ― C.S. Lewis tags: adult, childhood, children, maturity
I know that people use words differently, I know that there are some people who will say things like watching cartoons, playing video games and playing with toys like lego is childish and immature. Personally the way I use the words immature and childish, is refering to peoples behavior and not what they enjoy doing as a hobby or have an interest in. Behavior like, being upset that people aren't behaving the way you think they should, and not bothering to ask yourself why that is upsetting to you. I'm neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD.) and one of the most mature things I've been doing for as long as I remember, is asking why. It didn't take long to find out that society isn't happy when you don't fit in the neat box they expect you to fit in. I've tried fitting, I've tried being "Normal" but that went out the window because I realised that I unironically need things to make logical sense for me to care, and I bring a certain "Being a furry makes perfect logical sense to me, unlike gender" to the table, that society doesn't really vibe with.
No way is being a furry immature. If anything, anti-furs are more immature than us. For example, some teenager tried making a video on Blazie Fox, Blazie made a video laughing about the whole situation, and then the little dweeb made ANOTHER video on Blazie that same day. So yeah; being a furry isn't immature, but being an anti-fur is.
The pressure to mature with adulthood is entirely exploratory. No time for leisure, all time goes to making your boss rich. I don't agree with anything being immature, I rather look at things being maladaptive or not, if they harm anyone or disturb the functioning of society, or not. Furry doesn't.
I’m like you Ryv. And you preached it well. TBH, IDC what people think about a 30 year old like me cosplaying as an animal character for a hobby. Both younger and the oldies. It may be immature but it’s not hurting anyone. And so what. For instance, is it immature to like newer music over the older stuff? I like Bluey which is a kids cartoon but I like it for the humour, the cuteness factor as well it relates to Australian culture to a tee. But not like I’m into what is on TH-cam kids like Cocomellon or whatever. And I agree that being what boomers expected as “adult” dose suck and being a human is boring. FFS the guy in the Reggie rabbit suit is like in his 60s and still mascots for the South Sydney Rabbitohs Rugby League club here in Australia and he enjoys it and people love him for it. I’m more happier being a humanoid lizard than I am as a human anyway.
Imagine having kids in your mid-20s while you and your spouse are busy working / pulling in just enough to live in a 1-bed apartment, have college debt and are currently living in a politically unstable world that your child would have to inherit...
Is being a furry immature in my opinion? No. It's more immature to tell others what they can or can't enjoy. As I like to say: If you're doing something you hate then are you really living at all?
I disagree with you defining it as childish. Most furries from what I have seen don't come at Furry as something that is childish as they don't act like furry is some sort of game or toy. Lets leave out the difference between the "toys" adults like to play with in their bedrooms verses the "toys" children like to play with in their bedrooms for this specific discussion. From my experience furries come at furry as something that they can distract them self's from the mature adult things that adults have to deal with on a day to day basis like going to work, paying bills, and other such things.
Putting aside childish things has always been a thing. It's a kind of milestone for growing up. I think, regardless of the generation that a grown up partakes in, we tend to get nostalgic. Look at all these adults who go paying thousands for those video games they grew up with... and parted with when they had 'put away childish things.' Why, I'm thinking of a classic movie. _"Rosebud."_ spoke the dying man, confusing everyone. Well, *SPOILERS ALERT!!!*. Ships did land on the shores of America and this dying man spoke of a childish thing he once parted with. If you want to think of gambling, working, drinking and other such adult things as the positives to growing up, then so be it. But on many levels, growing up just plain out sucks. We shouldn't fully part with the playful sides of our youth... just because age marker _whatever_ told us to.
Short answer I’d say no. It’s not immature in any way imo as long as you don’t act like a true child in public as an adult because your a furry like working a job helping your family and you act fine as an adult but in your free time then watching cartoons, wearing a fursuit, etc heck just before I watched this I’ve been watching old Thomas and friends episodes that I grew up with and I don’t feel immature with me watching that as a 21 year old, I think the person who said that on twitter/x was a gen alpha kid/ teen. And also be yourself people but at a properly mature manner like I do and there’s nothing wrong with that.
0:06 sounds like someone watched the first Ferngully film again and replaced babe with buttscratcher, albeit it still gave me a laugh and I appreciate it.
I don't think being a furry is immature, however if furries aren't your thing, that's cool just don't harras and bully people for doing things they love as long as they're not crossing the line. And don't think saying things like "quiet furry" or "furry detected opinion rejected" makes you think i won't clap back. I do understand not everyone is perfect, and some of us do cross the line, (and i do condemn that behavior) but that doesn't give people the right to group us all together and act like we're all the same. Cause trust me you've never seen a based furry such as myself out in the wild before.
I agree. Some people want me to grow up. But I love my video games and cartoons. Mlp and Bluey have great life lessons. Adult cartoons are just boring shows. I rather watch anime
Yeah I am quite happy still liking the things that I like as for one I don't give two shites what others think and second of all a lot of things don't have an age limit. It also just sounds like a whole load of bitterness from those that gave up something that they love.
Short answer: No. Long answer: Like any kind of fandom, it is - by the choice of the member - an overtly visible expression and extension of what the member is interested in. If a member of the furry fandom goes all out and buys a customized fursuit, that fursuit is guaranteed to turn heads in public. Likewise, if a car enthusiast buys themselves a Tesla Cybertruck, they are doing exactly the same thing: overtly and very publicly expressing their interest in what they like.
Why is every response just 'Nah, cause the people that dislike furries are way worse ect. ect.' If the question was 'Are furries even the least bit self aware', the comments would have provided a much better answer. Literally one comment mentions that it 'childish' but not immature. I think that's an ok answer. The rest of you need to chill out, I'm trying to learn something.
I'm a furry I think it's awesome it's fun I I get make fun of but that doesn't stop me I like it because it's fun and it's I like cartoon animals that's all I have to say I'm happy I'm in the furry fandom❤🐺
I think people should do what they enjoy as long as it does not hurt anyone and if other people do not like it they can suck it up and deal with it and mind their own business.
I am in my mid 30’s and I still love cartoons, my father is in his late 60’s and he still loves cartoons. I really don’t care what anyone thinks about me honestly. If the furry fandom, or cartoons or just being silly helps me or anyone else be happier, then I’m all for it. Whether some may look at it as immature is irrelevant to me.
Is being a furry immature? No. But what is immature is people hating on furries for literally just existing and minding their own business.

I'm a boomer and a furry. I found the fandom late, does that make me immature? NO. It's a hobby!

I'm a 46 year old grey muzzle with a purple hair, so jog on all y'all who try to tell me what I should be.
In the little town I live in I generally either get positive reactions from people or straight up death threats.
