The simple mode is Brilliant! It needs some more customization options like a button to add your favourite custom brushes or a symmetry tool on liquify tab but overall great experience.
Clip Studio was super smart to offer it as an option only -- and not force it on us, because I'm not a fan of it right now. It's neat, but too limited for me. No reference window or navigator and keyboard short cuts also don't work. Only things that seems to work is undo, redo, shift, and space bar. Also doesn't have the edge keyboard (which I rely on heavily). I really like Simple mode's brush organization far better than Studio's, though. Still, I found if you download and customize the UI to be a minimal one (You can find a bunch in the assets site), the studio can have all the screen real estate as the simple mode as well as all the features.
As a beginner trying to learn digital art on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 11" screen, this is amazing! The full interface is so cluttered and overwhelming to a newbie, and it's hard to even learn how to streamline it to something more manageable, or even figure out where your favorite tools are. This is a great start for me. Thanks for sharing these videos!
This is a very cool thing clip studio did, now im hoping krita would do the same cuz i cant afford clip studio rn lol Seems like krita attempted to do the same thing back in the early 2010s specifically for windows tablets but seemed to have randomly stopped being worked on so i hope they go back n attempt that again
I use the Minimal workspace on Krita with all the quick action/command buttons (like Undo, Redo, Zoom in, Zoom out...) in one docker and modify it from there: getting only the dockers I need and moving all of them onto one side. Works well enough on my Tab S6 Lite. There is a minimum size for the dockers so I wish I can make them even smaller.
with krita the way i customized it for a tablet, i just have the toolbox on the left, layers on the right and use the popup pallette for choosing colors. Everything else i need i put on the toolbar on the top
Seriously, keep an eye out for clip studio sales. They have a sale about once every quarter. The last time it went on sale was at the end of June, so I'm guessing there will be another sale next month. You can pick up a 1yr subscription for like $10, or get a perpetual license on desktop for like $20.
I hope this Simple Mode comes to Windows & PCs as well. Like, it's nice to have full-blown apps on PC, but it's not really touch friendly enough and needs keyboards for essential features. It's quite frustrating to be told that I already have Krita, PS, and the likes when I want Procreate's touch-only workflow. It'd also make Surface PCs more attractive imo.
CSP has a touch mode like Krita's......honestly I find it better but maybe that's just because I hate how Krita wastes space with the way it handles brushes.
I really like the simple mode, I've tried it the other days and it looks like procreate but has more control since I can switch back and forth between simple mode and studio mode
I love Clip Studio and really want to like simple mode but I can’t. Just too much is missing. (Vector layers, sub view window, etc) I have my workspace streamlined anyway that I wouldnt be saving much room anyway. But for people new to the app I think simple mode is a really good place to start.
I just bought an ipad air recently, when i used Clip studio on simple mode damn, that is just a nice touch for digital painting, but what is actually better, clip studio or procreate?🔥
I just bought the s9 and was trying to use simple mode but I am so used to the vector layers, specialty brushes and a bit of the symmetry tool that I couldn't use the mode for too long till switching to studio mode. maybe later but for now I think it need some tweaking to be truly special
I tried Simple Mode, and I really liked it, but there's one thing that will keep me from using it: to hide a layer, you have to switch to that layer and bring up a submenu. As someone who frequently turns off my sketch layer while inking to see how the inks look on their own, this means I will have to continue inking in studio mode, unless they come up with a way to quickly hide a layer and unhide it without needing to select it.
Thanks, Brad! I've been very curious about Studio Mode but haven't made time to check it out. I've kinda streamlined CSP somewhat on my iPad but this will be great to encourage me to 'sketch' more on the go.
For sure, @@satelliteprime ! I love running CSP on my set-up at home, but when I want to use the iPad and not be chained to my desk, Id rather use Procreate. About time CSP made a simple mode for tablets - been told umpteen times in video comments "oh, you just need to get on with the UI" or "oh, you just need to learn how to customise it...." No, if CSP want to compete with Procreate / Fresco etc etc then a Desktop UI on a tablet does not make sense. If CSP can also port this over to the desktop - I might just start using CSP again. I'm going to hold off for the time being - I want to see more reviews and a once-only payment for CSP on any device.
Then you might as well look for alternatives, because Celsys has made it pretty clear they don't care about the userbase's dislike of the subscription model.
It is nice to have a switchable mode, instead of being locked up with a single one. Really like what clip studio did with this. But sadly need a subscription over a purchase to upgrade to that version.
They already have a feature on the app called Doodle Mode, where you can use the full software but with save/export locked behind a paywall, so with the similar name I thought in the new update they finally added more options to their pricing plan to make the mobile app more competitive 😑 Surely there must be some kind of compromise that will allow the developers to get paid while also have a pro-consumer pricing model because that's the number one complaint I see from negative reviews on the app and I don't see how they can keep ignoring that when there's money to be made from including more options to use the app because it'll make new customers from people who are tired of subscription models
The only issue is the disconnect from the platforms. Subscription aside. I wish these feature would be on the desktop version too. Like on window os laptop/ tablet it would be a great feature to get
One weird thing about simple mode that kinda makes it a pain for me to use is that there’s no layer merging option. Seems like a pretty strange thing to omit to me at least, since I do a lot of copy/pasting which makes new layers every time I do it
Kinda late, but it does the option! You have to scroll down on the layer options and you have it at the bottom of the menu. It seems that it only has those four or so options but there's a couple more actually, and one of them is "Merge with layer below". I figured out by accident because it has no visual indication that you cand actually scroll that list :')
I was very curious about this, but then I was very disappointed with it. They just took away too many options that I love CSP for, unique features like vector layers, adjustment layers, different layer modes and effects. I also hated the fact that when I want to access some of my customized tools (I have many) I have to import them ONE BY ONE... This was the point I just switched back to studio mode. Having the simple mode may be nice to people that just want to draw a little, use it to sketch, but there are so many apps that already do this better. Procreate of course, and even more so Fresco. I feel like the interface designers of CSP closely studied the Fresco interface. However, I feel like Fresco does a much better job with it than CSP does. A missed opportunity if you ask me.
there's some updates to simple mode that are needed for it to be amazing which I'm sure people are spamming where CSP can see like twitter maybe or reddit, and hopefully they can update in the future. I'm using it now to make a comic and so far it's going decent. hopefully they can make it to where you can customize it to your liking in the future.
I wish simple mode was also available on windows (pc ver) if someone wants to use it sometimes it can be overwhelming to have so many things on the screen (also it would be nice to use when you just want to doodle instead of making a grand piece of artwork)
Regarding the license thing, I don't have hard evidence because CSP doesn't really advertise the constraints, but generally you can port your subscription to a new device 3-5 times in 90 days before they will shut you down. They just do this to stop people abusing the license terms. I had bought a new laptop and had a bunch of trouble with it. I ended up porting my license to two different laptops and a desktop in between within a 2 week span and they never yelled at me.
I just got CSP yesterday. Wowz!! Simple Mode. That is great news. I'm glad I found this video. Who knows how long it would have been before I discovered this. Got my sub! Thanks Oh darn.....not on PC

I do have to switch to studio mode when i want to do certain things like changing hue/saturation of something. It also automatically records Timelapses for drawings! I really like it so far and hopefully it gets better
is animation available in simple mode, or is it for studio only? if not, could it be a feature they add at a later date, as i really like the simplified look
I've been chickening out on trying it, but I really like what I see! As for on the phone, I don't use it that way. I use the companion mode to see the buttons that I need. I don't need to change licenses then.
I've switched licenses enough times to know what happens. The license basically stays locked to that device. If you want to switch devices again, you can't. You have to either buy another license for your second device or upgrade your existing plan from 1 device subscription to 2 devices subscription. Your first device will still have a valid license you can use. You just can't transfer it any longer. I think the limit was between 3-5 times. It's just there to prevent using multiple copies of the software with one license. After realizing I had locked my license, I upgraded it to 2 devices plan. So I can use it on PC and on my tablet. Price difference is insignificant.
I would have liked simple mode on desktop too XD I really like to use sketchbook pro sometimes do to how simple the interface is, unfortunately the windows version isn't optimized to work without a keyboard xD
In my case I had to uninstall and reinstall clipstudio to get the simple mode. I thought it was cool and everything. For 5 minutes. Then I went back to the regular mode because I'm used to it lol then I realized that they also made the regular mode prettier, cleaner
Wish we had drag 3 fingers vertical for size and horizontally for opacity. Then we could hide the bars at the bottom and the undo/redo for even more screen. If someone knows how to set 3 finger drag on size please let me know! It's the biggest thing I miss from infinite painter 😢
My understanding is that after so many license transfers, your activated copy of Clip Studio gets stuck to one of your devices, wherein you can't activate it on a different device anymore.
Clip studio great app but can’t switch from iPad to tab 9 depending on this app , i need procreate 😩 I don’t like monthly subscription i hate clip studio for that
its pretty nice, i wish it would have all the options somewhere tho, ur limited in what you can do.. need perspective tools and adjustment modes.. i would love for them to keep upgrading the simple mode, cause the old interface is hideous
yes, please find out how to deal with enabling and disabling licenses. I find it quite outrageous to limit the number. It can not be that with a tablet, a laptop and a smartphone I already need multiple licenses when I am the only user.
if I can use this on my ipad, this would be a game changer. I love procreate but I always enjoyed clip's drawing tools a whole lot better but the interface on the smaller screen was always a problem for me. Super powerful but clutter is hard for me sometimes.
Interesting, the rating in the App Store went from 3.3 stars to 4.5 after they added Simple Mode. This is another wonderful example of how well the makers of CSP cater to their customers! And to think it just costs $27/year to use CSP Pro on 1 device. And on Windows/macOS you have the option of a $50 one-time purchase. And a plethora of other payment options to choose from! ❤📎🎨
Wow You noticed my comment in the previous video in the first 20 seconds of this video. Indeed there are advantages and disadvantages of these two modes. But I'm used to studio mode even though my cellphone screen is only 7 inches
Hey Brad how are you ? i loved Adobe fresco bc of you ! but unfortunatelly my ipad is broken and i just bought samsung galaxy 9 ultra . So can you make a animation tutorial on clip studio paint or another app works on android , like you did step by step on adobe fresco? Because i love your teaching method and i can watch them again and again until i learn . thank you ❤
Brad do you have any experience with CSP EX desktop and using something like astropad or slate to send it to your iPad? Not sure I want to pay the subscription fee that comes with the iPad app itself
I was wondering about it, while drawing on my Galaxy Tab S9, I also noticed there's a simple mode, I didn't even know that existed lol I didn't get to try it
they should release this as a standalone app to compete against procreate. how do you think it stacks up to procreate? im sure with a couple updates it could be a great replacement for android (if pixel fold had pen support I would’ve switched 😅)
How about importing reference images? I located them, even tried to copy and paste, but there seems to be a disconnect as you have to close out your WIP, find the reference, copy, then reopen the wip, but it won't paste. I didn't know if a keyboard will help, or if I just have to import in standard mode then go back to simple mode. 🤷♂️
Ok, I see that you can long press on the add layer + and add from images, but what if you want to add from files? This is what I don’t like about Clip Studio on the iPad. It just doesn’t take advantage of the built up gestures and features of iPad OS. I should just be able to drag and drop any image from anywhere, even 3d files and brushes. The materials feature is just annoying to use and I want to avoid it as much as possible.
Seem like they are trying to appeal to the Procreate crowd. I know many artist said they prefer Procreate over CSP because it be more streamlined for touch screen. Personally I love the fact that CSP on iPad is almost direct copy of the desktop version but I know I’m in the minority with that lol.
The only thing that keep me from trying this is that the simple mode doesn't support the Clip Studio TABMATE. For some reason, the TABMATE only works with the studio mode.
Simple mode feels weird to me, if I'm drawing in studio mode with a g pen brush, then switch to simple mode and still use the g pen brush it behaves completely different. It's it supposed to do that? I'm on s9 fe plus
This is game changer. The cluttered UI was really bad on tablets before. This makes it just as simple as procreate for most sketching

I'm buying a new tablet so I can't wait to see how it works on it!
Subsription costs kill this one, for me. Procreate for $20 once, or $20/yr for CSP? Easy choice.
Artstudio Pro > Procreate
@@lxXSuddenDeathXxl What makes it better?
I want this mode for surface pro too, I already emailed them about it :)
It’ll never compete with procreate so long as it’s subscription based which the company seems dead set on keeping it that way
How about importing reference images? I located them, even tried to copy and paste, but there seems to be a disconnect as you have to close out your WIP, find the reference, copy, then reopen the wip, but it won't paste.
I didn't know if a keyboard will help, or if I just have to import in standard mode then go back to simple mode. 🤷♂️
Hey Brad, can we animate in Clip Studio Paint on an Android tablet? I'm considering getting an annual sub but if we can't, rather not waste money.
Wish it was on pc so I can use it on my Surface Pro, would be super useful.
Is it possible to create 2d animation while in the Simple Mode ? I don't find any information on this.
One thing I don't like is my hand sometimes reduces the brush opacity
I can totally see that. I fortunately haven't experienced that yet.
It's fine, but for some reason it's kinda lagy when you want to move some options in the menus
Does simple mode reduce the lag that clip studio has on samsung tabs when you zoom in/out/navigate the screen?
Is there any layer modes in this simple mode like multiply or add glow?
How do you import a picture on the canvas in simple mode? If you drag and drop like any other app it just opens a new canvas.
I don't have it available, is it only for the Pro or Ex versions?
What app did you use to animate Brad's art school vids?
Can i use the simple mode in a desktop app?
I use CSP EX (one time purchase), is it just for tablets or monthly subscription?
hi, please do you find how is possible delete inside a selection?
Seem like they are trying to appeal to the Procreate crowd. I know many artist said they prefer Procreate over CSP because it be more streamlined for touch screen. Personally I love the fact that CSP on iPad is almost direct copy of the desktop version but I know I’m in the minority with that lol.
I just wish they would bring Simple Mode to PC.
Can you put reference pic in simple mode ? If so how
The only thing that keep me from trying this is that the simple mode doesn't support the Clip Studio TABMATE. For some reason, the TABMATE only works with the studio mode.
Simple mode feels weird to me, if I'm drawing in studio mode with a g pen brush, then switch to simple mode and still use the g pen brush it behaves completely different. It's it supposed to do that? I'm on s9 fe plus
What type stylus you use?
That simple mode is kinda similar to how Sketchbook looks on tabs...
how to select multiple layers on this mode?
I can't find simple mode... I have the tab s7 fe... pls help me
I am having trouble getting to simple mode on my iPad Pro 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Does this also come to pc?
simple mode is pretty amazing and convenient
does anyone know how to flip verticallly in the simple mode?
Is it exclusive on the EX or is it on PRO too???
No need to worry, I can confirm Simple Mode is on Clip Studio Pro as well
I cant find the symmetry-Tool in simple mode 😩 Someone please tell me its here somewhere 🤞🤞🤞
That's what I came to the comment section to find 😭
I want it on the pc version 😭😭
