Great video Brad.
I would really like to see Celsys update the brush engine to make it smoother with bigger brush sizes and make better use of GPU processing power.
probably in v4 :') that's really what I'm waiting for too tbh
Anyway, for the people having no discrete card (those zillions of laptops, but also cheap PCs, etc, with just integrated graphics) around the world, it's nice that it can do all that with just CPU. If it became GPU dependent, a lot of current users would be left out (and that hoping that with AI or mining, there does not come another GPU supply crisis). It happened with Photoshop... trying to paint without activating GPU acceleration with that one is really bad, now.
@@3polygons if it was an option that you could disable/enable, it'd be nice. Drawing on my laptop would be for lighter work, then on my desktop for heavier work. Could be done greatly!
@@3polygons I said it would be nice if it made better use of the GPU.
I did not mean that it became GPU dependent.
Good software scales to the system and makes the most of what is available whilst still being efficient on less powerful hardware.
Everyone benefits that way.
idk why on pc i'm up to date but the brush engine for pc overall is kind of worse than the ipad/tablet versions
Alls I know is that I've bought CSP three times for three different computers over the years, not because I had to, but just because I loved the software and felt it was such a good deal compared to PS that I wanted to reward them with my cash.
Then.., one of their later updates deleted my entire streamlined brush preferences and I had to go hunting through their foolish app store/social media contraption, wasting a couple of hours just trying to get back to my previous working state. I don't want to download my tools from a high school manga fan. I don't care what others are doing on social media. I don't need to feel a sense of 'community'. I just need the tools I paid for to work.
To be fair, I guess they've identified their primary market, and I'm not it, but for goodness sake!
The odor of "We REALLY want to go to a subscription model, but we just don't have the cahones to pull the trigger.., yet." is definitely in the air.
You can back up your workspace to their cloud, and save all those preferences. Saved me a ton of time. I was even able to share my settings between the desktop and the tablet. Definitely worth doing if you haven't yet.
They are a subscription model. The perpetual licenses in V2 and V3 are super limited.
You mean “cojones”?
I mean it used to be called manga studio. Manga wannabes have always been a core part of their targeted demographic
@@stickgarrote8582 what do you mean v3 perpetual licenses are "super limited"? It's a perpetual license
I upgraded from V1.0 to V2.0, and how about a year later they have V3.0. I really hope Celsys can tune down the subscription price to $20-$30 and just offer some updated features and maintain the program.
If you wait for the right sale you can get it at that price!
The subscription price for Pro *is* $26.99 a year? And most people don't need Ex! That said, the thing about buying it outright is that you almost certainly don't need every new version that comes out. The reason people were mad about Adobe's SaaS model is that it used to be routine to go 2, 3, 5 years between Photoshop upgrades. If the current version is still working for you and there's no killer new feature you need, wait until v4!
Looks cool but I'm not gonna give up my one time purchase for it on more then one device
I made the mistake and went for v2.0. It does not worth it, stick to your v1.0 as mucha s you can buddy!
something none of the apps / programs seem to do is a simple mode where the colors you can pick are as a vertical sidebar always in view so you can just tap your pen and change color. not having to open a square box first to then take a color from... id really like to just paint and dip my pentip into a narrow vertical colorbar on the side and continue painting
Krita has this feature
@@ramitchatterjee9626 thanks going to check that out.. the easier it is to change color the better lol
It's not a perfect solution, but what you could do is paint some swatches down the side of the canvas on their own layer, then just use the colour picker to grab the colours as needed.
Great rundown of features!
...but man, I have to say, I'm so glad I didn't jump on the update pass train. None of these features seem worthy of a monthly payment to me. I'll wait for a 4.0, or whatever version adds something really game changing.
Same it doesn't feel the same
That's how I feel. If I didn't cover this stuff for the channel I would just stick with my original 1.0 license.
Monthly payment? But... you can still purchase the permanent license, no subscription (I just did).
Yeah I still have version 1
It's not a monthly payment though, it's a yearly payment. I think I got it on sale for $15 for the year. Though I'm on desktop maybe it's different on tablets.
Transparent GIFs?!!?!!! That's awesome! Might sound silly but I HATE going to photoshop to render GIFs. No more!!!
I wish to have more 3D features! I think the whole idea is neat 😊
The features in this update are laughable. CSP needs a fuller suite of layer styles. It needs WAY better text manipulation tools (kerning, stretching, map to curve, etc.). It needs significant improvement to the ruler user experience.
These updates are ridiculous. It really didn't need LUTs or poster filters. I've always found the 3D features clunky, slow, and cumbersome to use. I would have an easier time posing a model in Blender, screen capping it, and using that as a reference to draw from. They need to focus more on the UX of their core competencies and stop flooding the app with "features" that nobody will use.
Also, bring simple mode to the DESKTOP version! PLEASE! That's actually a good feature! Having a minimum distraction interface when I want it would be lovely to have.
Great vid!
Simple mode needs to come to PC. I draw a lot on my surface and would love to have that touch-centric design on desktop.
This would be unbelievable if the models could be exported as a 3MF/OBJ/STL file once you have tweeked them.
Great videos. I'm still wating for the export SVG function.
Did the animation tools get any better? I liked where it was heading to but it’s no TVPaint.
wish they added a reference tool like the one in krita and infinite painter 😭
There is one, otherwise there's pureref
@@neolordie Also DroidRef for Android and VizRef for iOS/iPad OS
in the window dropdown there's a tool called "Sub View" this is the reference tool in CSP, i use it all the time
@@neolordie Which is amazing to have on a second monitor! :)
@@izk001 They do still need to add that to Simple Mode though I believe.
I found this video really useful as a V1 user who hasn't really been paying attention to the updates since they're behind a subscription wall now, but might be interested in updating my perpetual license in the future. The file time is a certainly useful, and I agree that their cloud service is unintuitive and needs an overhaul. For me, the big thing I'm waiting for is some kind of announcement that they'll resume support for multiple devices on the perpetual license. They haven't introduced many features that would improve my workflow, but they got rid of something I DO use. Why would I give up my V1 license for something that looks shinier but is effectively less valuable to me?
Nice features! Thanks for the vídeo
7:02 I use the version 2 and it haves this option, its not from ver3
Ace video Brad, thanks. Are you using a drawing-specific stand for your S9 Ultra or is just the regular cover flipped over?
This is great 😁
Are you using clip studio galaxy store version or play store version?
Hi how do you create a new canvas in simple mode? I'm going crazy I can't find how.
i would like to be able to colour pick from an image on the browser off the application itself. I think it can be done on PC but not tablet if im remembering correctly.
I've seen others mention this already, but just a warning, if you upgrade a PC perpetual license from V2 to V3 it will cease to work on two different devices and only allow you to use it on one. Be aware of that going in - I wasn't >.>
Reading through these comments is kind of depressing tbh. Clip Studio Paint used to be thought of really positively in the digital art space, at least from what I saw, but ever since the shifts in their revenue model it feels like people's attitudes have soured a lot. I'm not saying it isn't justified - the new model HAS introduced a lot of problems and confusion. It's just sad to see so much goodwill lost when the program itself is still my favourite thing to draw with. I hope they're able to pull through somehow in the long term and earn a bit of that trust back.
Hey Brad, you inspired me to draw and my choice of a S9FE+. I gotta wonder though what screen protectors are you using for matte glass/paper feel? I tried it on my Fiancee's iPad and it was excellent
Use any Matte Glass protector they all work the same it's only marketing bullshit, another thing to mention is you should but the Wacom One Pen since that works with the Samsung Wacom pen technology the reason I say this is cuz those pens have cheaper pen tips available for them compared to Samsung's S Pen tips and also cuz they are more ergonomic and thicker also they will last longer compared to S pen
Yeah, i picked up a cheap on one Amazon. don't remember the brand
@@Aman_Mondal Thank you!
So when you reviewing the LincStudio S1?
What I hope they fix is how when using watercolor even if you change color if you point the brush in another color on the canvas the color of the brush starts for a while as that color thus making it annoying and forced me to make new layer for each color change, or using flat marker but having to use blend colors to make it watercolor/paint looking. There in most other apps and for decades in PS
Quick questions, what brushes do you use in CSP ? And what dimenions/resolution are your drawings ? Thanks
When it comes to the pen brushes, I mainly use either the G-Pen or the Textured Pen. As for the resolution, I always do my drawings in Clip Studio Paint at a resolution of 3600x2700 pixels at 300 PPI, which is a digital equivalent of a 9” x 12” sheet of paper.
Clip Studio got a lot of critique for their subscribtion model, which I can kind of understand, but I think for he quality of app, the annual subscription is actually pretty fairly priced. The whole pricing structure is overly complicated though. The best thing about CSP is that it offers the same app on almost every platform, which makes it pretty unique.
It seems they will be releasing a major update every year, so if you want to avoid a subscription, you could get the perpetual version for PC and Mac when the app is on sale.
I am sticking with the annual update, in desktop. Pretty happy about it. This year I got it, but I have the freedom to not do so every year. It's a very solid software for drawing and painting. My favorite for inking, indeed.
I bought csp for the animation tools. Have EX v1.0. I have yet to see anything game changing that would justify paying the EX price to upgrade to the pass, or perpetually.
Is there any difference between csp windows and csp android, ios
Hi Brad. I'm a HUGE fan of the subscription plans og CPS (just to agree with your "why so salty"-video).
I have one question: Is VECTORS available in Simple mode in the V3?
What's that tablet? I tried looking in the desc but it doesn't seem to be there.
Mario's right eyebrow is breaking every physical law of the universe.
It is, but to be fair, having raised eyebrows extend up past hairlines and hat brims is a pretty common method of exaggerated expressions in cartoon work.
Still needs to export layers individually, like what PS and Krita does.
Ellipse guides, the selection box stays horizontal / vertical when re-selecting it. Should be like Sketchbook
Can you draw in vector in CSP or is it bitmap painting only? That would be the only reason I'd use this over Procreate.
Csp supports vector layers. It's a really acquired taste program, definitely try a trial, you might click with it.
It would be great if you could create a video for 3d modeling and the best apps on android with some clips on them
The only thing I did is like about clip studio that you have to subscribe and pay monthly in order to get updates like it’s not fair. It’s either you make me pay one time and get every update in the future or only do subscription model don’t do this mix because it’s gonna make the people feel bad when they don’t have features because they cannot cannot afford to pay monthly
"Pay one time and get every update" is a pyramid scheme; you get more value by getting in early, but eventually the new sales dry up and the company will stop updating the product completely, because infinite growth is literally a violation of the laws of physics. FOMO is not a reason to upgrade! If there's no killer feature for you here, then you might very well not need to upgrade for another five or ten years. Don't let other people influence you into upgrading before you're getting enough value for the upgrade cost.
Hi! Can you review drawing the new Asus zen duo, i really want to know your opinion on the ASUS pen 2.0🙏
Hi Brad, could you please review the Minisforum V3 Ryzen tablet. I know it uses MPP2.6 Pen. I guess many wants to know how is it for Artist. I plan to use it more on Affinity Designer (Vector Graphcs) rather the Clip Studio and light photo editing. Seen lots of gaming review from ETA PRIME and TechTablets but no one from artist point of view yet.
what type of your Tablet do you use?
This is a Samsung Galaxy Tab s9 Ultra. kinda overkill but I like it.
What is the laptop you are using?
That's an Android tablet 😂 Samsung Tab S9 Ultra
I'm confused. Is the perpetual license ONLY available on desktops and the subscription on tablets or can I buy version 3 on Android for one price and not have to pay a subscription? I have no interest in adding another subscription for anything.
Yeah, perpetual is only for desktop.
@@thebradcolbow Thanks Brad, this is going to be a continued pass from me. I appreciate all that you do.
On a side note: I got my Kindle Scribe and having a good time sketching on it. It's not a "full-fledged" art app, but it feels great as an analog sketchbook that's also digital 😁
I agree, the cloud save feature is very clunky and unintuitive. It took me a long time to figure out just what combination of buttons I needed to press to get my works from my computer to my galaxy tab or phone. And it's still a chore to move things around. If you don't have it saved to a specific spot on your computer it puts it in some weird folder, buried in the CSP drive with a completely useless cryptic folder name. They definitely should update that to be more user friendly.
Little PSA to whoever is thinking "if they release a new version each year is like having a subscription"
I agree with you, but don't let they rope with you in with the FOMO.
You most likely don't need every new feature that comes out, so you don't need to buy every version that comes out. (Unless you want to ofc)
To sum up: There are no features that can justify an upgrade to me. They should have called this version 2.5 instead of 3.0. Seriously,
Wait, if you buy the one-time purchase of the license for v3 you don't get any further updates they make unless you subscribe?
Until you subscribe or buy v4? This is how one-time purchases work, yes. Modern apps that give you updates "forever" are basically announcing their eventual abandonment of the product. It's like a pyramid scheme; new users are constantly needed to bankroll updates for all the current users. It's unsustainable. This is the traditional software license model.
Pose Maniacs, not posematics
ohhh, that's a way better name 🤣
i definitely like the new additions to the 3d stuff. posing models is A LOT more easier. but when it comes to the head models,, there's not a lot options when it comes to shaping the bottom of the face, bleh.
yes, even the "anime" face style still has jaws that are way too big. When I use them as a reference, I still have to manually make the adjustment.
I want to buy s9 fe, but because of procreate only i am not sure whether I will go for that android or a apple pad. Can anyone
suggest me any please.
Infinite Painter is the best alternative of procreate so you can decide between the two and it will be a good choice :)
I'm fed up of how ClipStudio has changed their business model, they flood the app with new "features" that are quickly forgotten and only bog down the app. Remember automatic colours? well even if you don't use it the feature (using an outdated and poorly optimised Ai model) runs in the background.. Don't use 3d, well deal with it because the OpenGL engine runs in the background, same for Vector brushes and similar...
I used to love CSP because it had amazing art tools, snappy performance and was affordable. Now they are just a shittier Photoshop and it makes me so sad.
They definitely need to improve things "under the hood" and speed up performance and the brush engine.
It would be good if those features you mentioned could be toggled on and off too.
Or Adobe. I appreciate generative fill, remove tool and some other features, but it seems that ai algorythms (especially object recognition) kick in when you use simple good old lasso, which makes it unbearable to use even with decent machines. Also they don't bother fixing old bugs while making new. Really, I'd appreciate just a good polished photo editor without fancy features but with all problems fixed and basic tools better implemented... Oh, wait, Affinity Photo is a thing.
Nah trust me Celsys is doing a great job on clip studio compared to other desktop software though I will never pay them 😂 I pirate Clip Studio and run it on my PC and everything works like a charm also their online store too 😂
I guess that explains the slight lag? Especially when using big brushes. And sometimes it feels like I'm getting more fps on Cyberpunk 2077 than csp 😭
Please please I need your help on a decision making
(So I want to learn animation..3d/2d) as a beginner/novice , would you advice I go for an iPad or laptop that works with making animations..
Which would you advice I go for
(Learning for the purpose of creating short stories/content creation)
there aren't any 3d animation programs on the ipad to my knowledge so i'd say to seek a good laptop or just build a pc if you don't mind losing the portability, with a pc you can slowly upgrade it over time (as 3d animation rendering requires a fairly good machine)
however if you don't mind losing the 3d animation and you really need a portable device (if you travel often or intend to use outside), then get an ipad
@@panelaela thank you 🙏🏻
That's a really weak update. No performance improvements. No brush engine updates. No brush management updates. No ruler updates. Mostly 3D and other niche changes. Meanwhile my painting is still interrupted by auto-saving every 5 minutes. Celsys lost track after V1.
subscription pricing and payment method is horrible for artists.
You can buy a perpetual license and get done with it
@@lumilikhaThere is only the perpetual license for the PC version
@@lumilikha As a V2.0 perpetual licensee, I'm being bombarded with demands to buy 3.0. It's super annoying and Celsys have basically barred themselves from further purchases.
I like the subrscription vs perpetual license idea, it makes sense!
Subscription also? Everyone falls for the greed sooner or later...
I'd like them upgrade Clip Studio Modeler, cause it's stuck in the oldest version forever and it does not match the Clip Studio Paint anymore, unfortunately. As I am a comic artist, a often use 3D assets to speed up my comic, and it has become really difficult to use them together, which shouldn't be, given they are the "same" software (kinda).
I truthfully have no idea exactly what I am paying clip studio for and how much I am paying them. Their pricing plan has become wildly confusing. I love the software. I think a lot is lost in translation, as for some reason all of their information seems very poorly translated into English. I just wish they would say "it's this much a year for X" but instead it's "x gets you y, but you can have y for w one time, but y doesn't also include z. If you want z that's going to cost a".
I'm not sure it's a language issue so much as just trying to please people who were asking for nonsensical things. There were definitely people who wanted BOTH to have a forever license AND still get feature improvements within that version, and they really should have just said no, that's not how traditional licenses work.
I gave up AI and wanna start on Clip Studio😮😮😮
❤brad
Perpetual licenses are tied to ONE computer and you get to change it maybe five times, if I remember correctly, before you need a new license. Upgraders from V1 will lose one computer per license. The stingiest license in all graphics apps.
Can you make video on Android vs windows tablet.

I wish they had a One Time Purchase option for CSP. Like i'd pay $99.99 just to get it permanently.
Both the Cip studio Pro and EX do have a one time payment option for desktop version. all mobile devices are subscription based.
Best experience is on Mobile honestly. @@tatoom40 Singular device. Desktop version requires additional drawing tablets (Cintiq etc) and cables (Unless using like a Surface or something but Windows in general is just Awful)
@@tatoom40 yeah but you cannot get updates that way
@@_ahorusYes but honestly DO YOU REALLY NEED constant updates to a drawing app?
I used v1 for ages until i got a good discount to move to v2 but the fact is even right now v1 is good enough for my use.
To be clear I'm not defending CSP fuck them for going subscription based model.
But standalone version is good in itself that i don't need to think too much from it.
@@_ahorus You get security updates, not feature updates
I just wanted to use vectors on android....😭
You can add vector layers on the android version.
Not a fan. I use 1.x and 2.0. For me there are no notable differences between the two. They need to optimize the program for large scale images. The lag is abysmal on windows now. An the fact that moderate 2.X updates are tied to a subscription in perpetuity until you upgrade to 3.0 is still just awful.
Its morally correct to pirate Clip Studio Paint
Been using 2.0 and I don't any reason to upgrade. The colour mixing option was a great addition to the software with 2 but all these new features don't seem to add anything valuable enough to want to get a new version. Maybe, as others have said, 4 will be something special, but yeah, no mas.
Weird video/title for someone who admits he doesn’t keep up with the feature updates🤔
ETA: and totally missed the iPadOS/Tabmate 2 integration 🤦🏾♀️
Sorry Brad, but this video seemed a bit half-assed compared to your usual releases🫣
here i am still in V1 cuz i refuse getting that subs thingy
I'm just a poor man
This update is a f*cking joke, the only feature that is useful for me is layer comp and yet they lock it under the EX version, WTF?! And they have the balls to ask us to pay a subscription?!
Blocking layer comps behind EX version is such a greedy and stupid move. Most features are useless to me and this would be the only one finally worth going up from v1. The company just keeps getting worse and worse.
I'm staying with v2.0. Clip can keep pestering me about "epic new features" but idgaf. I'm tired of gimmicks being touted as features
I'm really happy to seeing all these kids who switched from photoshop to csp complaining about this good company who really care about the artists and not he money... wait for the pirate version 😂
Clip has an identity problem. Its bloated now trying to be everything to everyone and now its isn't really doing anything great. The 2D performance with large brushes and number of layers should have been addressed a long time ago. When you look at a lot of the updates 2.0 and on, so many are around these 3D models. Are that many Clip users using those? Meanwhile, they have really dumb things to justify an EX version. They really are lost but, people didn't hold the line so welcome to the annual upgrade model and a sub model that reverts you back to your last perpetual version if you stop paying. Totally mental. They lost me when they made 1.x users have to upgrade to 2.0 first, then 3.0. Its like man, you guys wont leave a penny on the floor.
That always online check is arsinine. Fuck Celsys.
Probably to stop piracy
