I agree with you about their harmonies. I enjoy especially VoicePlay's wonderful harmonies (and also Geoff's on his solo channel).I believe their arrangement skills equal their vocals. Just a joy to listen...
I agree with your agreeing with me about the harmonies... LOL when you listen for sound when it comes to music, there will be certain categories that will be able to ring true.
I'm not a big MJ fan but I think VP did this song proud. It's a Geoff arrangement and he almost always tries to put the focus on the other guys. Almost any time you hear Geoff doing something crazy it's a Layne arrangement! (Unless of course it's a Geoff solo song!) Deejay is great. He did another MJ cover with the guys as well, Man In The Mirror, which was the last song they did before J. None left for the Navy. He's also done several other's with them, Queen's Your My Best Friend and the song Butter come to mind. Love your reaction to Cesar's mohawk. Other reactors have commented on it as well. Love your reaction but I really wish you'd drop the rating. I find it really annoying personally. Not sure what you have & haven't heard of VP's older songs but among my favorites are Something Just Like This (when J. None was first being considered to join the group), Phantom of the Opera (back when Tony Wakim was baritone) and Kiss.
Agreed, I appreciate the work that was put in by VP. I did not listen to a lot of MJ because the sound was not there for me. I give him credit for his works as they were well done, performed, and were popular.
I know that this is an iconic Michael Jackson song. And I’ve enjoyed this song in the past. But at this point in my life I really prefer this cover. I like the fact that it’s more intimate because they slowed it down. I like the stripped down jazzy bluesy sexy sound of it. I really appreciate that even though DeeJay‘s voice could easily be mistaken for Michael Jackson’s, they did not slavishly copy the song. They rearranged it to feature his voice but make it their own. I love Geoff’s bassline, Eli’s nice clear tone and the fact that we got to hear Layne sing. I think my two favorite parts are when Cesar and Layne are singing together and right after Geoff sings and DeeJay gets to riff for a while. It reminds me of the Motown sounds that I grew up with. This is definitely going to be one of my favorites.
One thing I appreciate about this video of theirs - it kind of feels as if they are just grooving and concentrating on the harmonies. More like they are singing specifically to grab a sweet harmonization. I'm sure I'm not explaining what I mean well, but it feels almost as if they are doing harmonies that were not preplanned, just finding the sweet spots. I'm positive that is not what actually happened, but they make it feel that way.
I could totally see them just sitting around and free styling something like this. I know a lot of actual work is put it, but they make it look so effortless.

Well said. Motown was an amazing era and still to this day enjoy the songs created and performed.

@@ESClone27 Yes - they make it look so effortless! But I think additionally it is the little looks between each other that contribute to this feeling.
They are just so smoooooth.
Nice song selection Egon. I know you love the bass, as do I. You can't do a cappella without some good bass vibes, eh!
Straight facts. Best part considering how I listen for sound.
