  • In today's video, we cover an assortment of Junkers (pronounced YOONKERS) German made watches. Manufactured in Germany by Pointtec (www.Pointtec.de), Junkers watches draw their inspiration from Hugo Junkers, an aviation pioneer who lived 100 years ago and is credited with inventing aluminum aircraft skins; something that is used all over today.
The watches come in many styles, from minimalist Bauhaus inspired pieces, to GMT and pilot's chronographs. Ranging in price from $250 to $1000, there is something for almost every budget. You will find both quartz and mechanical/automatic watches in their lineup.
To see the entire Junkers lineup, please visit us at: www.longisland...

Nice one, although I wouldn't be too sure about the Italian leather. It misses either "made in Italy" or "Vera Pelle". The latter is our 'brand' to identify real made in Italy leather. So it might be from Italy, but not made in...

Hello Everyone, After watching this video, I wanted to purchase one of the Junkers watches shown from Long Island Watch. Although it was sold out, Long Island Watch owner Mark helped me find the watch from one of his competitors. Thank you Mark for your assistance and generosity of time (no pun intended). I will definitely remember this when I add to my watch collection.

    Hi.
Could I ask a question about Junkers 6060
Bought one couple of months ago
    I found recently one problem
Watch stopped even if power reserve shows it's still more then 5-10 hours left.
Any idea why is like that?

  • @beschuitfluiter
    @beschuitfluiter 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Thanks for the video again Mark,
I own the 6060 with the black dial.
It's a lovely dress watch which receives lots of compliments by both men and women of all ages.
The "rattle' of the rotor is noticeable though, but I got to kinda like it. Reminds me I'm wearing a piece of engeneering mastership I guess.

Thank you for your no nonsense review.
May I add that in Europe - I live in Belgium - the brand Junkers is particularly known for heating equipment, thermostats and that kinda stuff. And they have an outstanding reputation :-)
Nowadays - unless I'm mistaken - they've become part of the Bosch Thermotechnik group. I know you don't speak German (at least that's what you claim in one of your other videos), but given you're like myself a mechanical engineer, I don't think that the term "Thermotechnik" demands much explanation
    Best regards

I own the Junkers Bauhaus power reserve/date model in the cream colour. I have to say that since it arrived it has been hogging my wrist! This video review does an excellent job of getting much of the magic of this watch across. It isn't every day one finds a watch that gives off a definite "personality", but I can say with a clear conscience ~ happily ~ that this watch is really superb and has that certain, magical 'something'. It is an extraordinary value as well, with a really stable and well-presented Miyota movement. I have a nice little collection of watches, many of which were more costly; few, however, have the ineffable qualities that the Junkers has. If you are thinking about buying one of the power reserve Bauhaus line from Junkers, I urge you to take the plunge. I am sure you will be happy. I've become a Junkers enthusiast!

  • @daleschmidt7157

Miyota is more than capable of taking up the slack left by ETA. I really like the Miyota 9100 Series of movements and think of them being superior to the ETA 2824-2 movement; Miyota just doesn't have the ETA Glamor, but it will someday.

Just a correction - Hugo Junkers died in the mid 1930's. The Nazis weren't approving of his pacifistic stance, apparently, and forced him to give management of his own company in 1933. He died two years later..

Nice looking watches, Mark, thanks for another informative review. 👍 I’ve had the 6050-2 on my wish list for a while, and have done some reading about Hugo Junkers. Besides his aircraft work, he was also instrumental in the Bauhaus school and movement and a close friend of founder. I believe he died in 1934, 2 years after the Nazis appropriated his company to build war machines.

Junkers has now unfortunately new manufacturer, because Junkers family wanted more money than Pointtec was ready to pay. Its a shame. Pointtec doesnt have some horological history, like some other brands. But their strongest point was excellent design, combined with superb build quality for the price. Well we still have Zeppelin. Not a fan of Iron Annie name or logo. New models coming from new manufacturer are very generic and bland.

I had bought Junkers more than 20 years ago. Crown replaced/ corrosion and pins after belts change couple of times. Watch is composed of the very typical elements it means it is fully repearable. Efficient mechanism and strong battery. Works up to 3 years, very good time keeping. Small diameter and heigh. Looks a bit childish.

A big pet peeve of mine is when the second hand doesn't line up with the graduations around the dial and the Junkers Bauhaus electric is... in my opinion unacceptable. There's really no reason other than poor attention to detail to account for this. So for me... that's a deal killer. I might revisit this brand but right Now I'll have to pass. Risk not being able to unsee it at the 11:20 mark.

  • @Nova_Zed

    Marc,
I have a serious question for you regarding this video and I’m hoping you can give me one additional info.
If there is anyone in the comments section who can provide insight please feel free to also chime in.
I’ve only recently discovered the Junkers brand and am mostly loving the vast majority of their line of timepieces.
Around the 2:20 mark in the vid you reference a German company who is not the actual manufacturer of the timepiece and are more or less just squatting on their name.
I had been planning to purchase a Junkers watch from this specific website: Junkers.de however I am hesitant to do so now because I believe this may be the dubious website you are referencing.
I know that you said the company who actually manufacturers the watches doesn’t sell to the public, but could you give me some names of websites where I could actually purchase certified Junkers watches?
I’m aware that I could most likely go to Google and find all manner of Junkers watches, but I have had some issues with purchasing watches in this manner and believe some of the watches which I purchased in the past are actually knock offs.
That’s why I’m asking about certified dealer websites.
I very much appreciate you sharing this video and look forward to your response.

great video Mark, really informative. A quick question, I recently bought a Zeppelin LZ 129 automatic (cream dial) directly from Zeppelin. Beautiful watch. Stunning dial and great design.
But the Miyota 9132 movement is so noisy.
I showed it to a watch maker in my city and he said it was "obnoxiously noisy". It rattles like there are small marbles loose inside.
Is this normal? I have other Miyota watches that are much quieter. I may send it back to be looked at, but wanted to hear your thoughts.

I really appreciate your store and your videos. I also admit my totally neophyte status in this hobby, so a huge dump of salt with this comment, but am I alone in saying $260+ for a plastic crsytal quartz watch with a featureless matte dial and a second hand that doesn't come near the markers is absolutely insane? You can get a decent looking Timex Expedition at Walmart for $35, buy a strap and call it a day. :-/
Again LOVE the channel, appreciate the store (I'm about to become a first time customer) but to extend the WWII gags, that Junk is a real Fokker.

You raise good points. BTW, what watch did you get?

Oh my goodness. Deep in the rabbit hole am I. Around and around have I gone with my decision process. I now own an Orient Mako II Pepsi, a Hamilton Khaki King Champagne, a kind of goofy engraved Timex Chronograph from my wife, and a Casio AWG M100 G-Shock. After researching 3D printers I stumbled upon some Chinese jobs so figrued what the hell? Ordered a Cadisen and Guanqin. Received them today. Surprisingly decent, but nothing special.
I'm still waiting on Mark to get more of those Red Star Commie Chronograph in the cream dial. After that I think I'm going to be done for a while and let it all digest before making any other purchases.
      Fun!!!

Hi thank you very much for the interesting videos, I have a question I really like Junkers but I have a small dilema, should I got for the entry level automatic watches with miyota 82s5 or 821a, or should I go for the miyota 9015, the prices is about 130euro more, question is is the 9015 worth the extra cash, I read the technical comparison, jewels, bps, but I mean in praxis, will the extra money be worth it ? thank you

I say if you like the extra function the 9132 gets you, then go for it. But if you are deciding between a watch with an 821A or a 9015, save a few bucks, for now, and get the 821A. Move up to the 9015 later so you can appreciate the difference.

the 9132 is even 100euro above the 9015 :). which is out of my budget, the 9015 would still fit in my budget ;) thats the reason why im asking

In my opinion the black chronograph is the winner, hands down.

Good looking watch; I prefer it in the cream dial, 6086-5

On the 6060-, can the 24hr subdial be set independently like a GMT, on does it just match main dial? And wasn't there a previous version released with a ETA, perhaps not US market? - love your vids!

Michael Doran no the subdail can't be set individually. ETA movements (7750 valjoux) are only found in the limited edition Graf Zeppelin

    • @islandwatch
      @islandwatch  7 ปีที่แล้ว

No, it cannot, sorry. It is slaved to the main time.
The 6050 model is an ETA or Swiss movement, no power reserve meter though.

The black chronograph looks ace, however, it looks quite difficult to read especially when the hands are similar in colour with the dial face. It took me a few seconds to read the time in your video.

Many times it's the reflection of the lens on the silver hands that makes it difficult to read.
