The song is about the 30 years war (1618-1648) from a young swedish boys perspective, sent out to a war in a foreign country that he barely knows nothing about. The 30 years war are considered by many as the real first world war because so many nations were involved.

It is kinda insane if you think about that soldiers where often accompanied by their wife on campaign or they found one and a child would be be born, grow up in the follower camp, be conscripted and fight in the same war as his father considering 15 year old's where not uncommon on the battlefield.

This performance moved me so powerfully... I taught myself to sing it in Swedish (one week challenge) just so that I could feel more a part of the epic sing-along you just watched! I've never once glanced at the English translation... I don't need to...I understand this perfectly!
Next on my challenge list is their song, Carolus Rex (Latin for King Karl XII)... its *powerful* in English...catch it live from Resurrection Fest... but they are performing it in Swedish on their current tour... and I will master it!!❤

I read a story in a Swedish museum about a man that left for the 30 year war while his son was new born and the next time he saw his son was on the battlefield when he also was a soldier 16 years old. I can't imagine how that must have been. And how much pain an effort for Sweden at the time to become an empire on the shoulders of regular people. As people have mentioned, this is the Swedish version of a lifetime of war. The album Carolus rex they had released during that time is about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (stormaktstiden in Swedish) from when Sweden was one of the ruleing powers. I was at this show, sitting somwhere in the middle of the platform to the left from this view of the stage. We were 10 766 metalheads in the arena that night.

Carolus Rex, the album this is from, is a double album. One disc in English, one in Swedish. All songs, except for two are the same in both languages. This song differs, The Swedish version is from the point of a Swedish soldier, the English version is more from a neutral observers view, someone who sees the whole picture, not just from the battlefield.
The other song with two different lyrics in 1648, about the siege of Prague. Once again the Swedish version is from the Swedes point of view, while the English version is that of the people of Prague. The 30 year war started in Prague 1618, and returned home in 1648 when the Swedes ransacked Prague. That was the last battle of the war.

Thank you for watching and trying to keep us straight. In fact, I used Google translate to try to translate the title of the song, and Google translate indicated it was Danish. LOL. Oh, well, we tried.

The song name is in Swedish but has the same meaning and the same words if it was Danish before you go all out like this you should know how close those languages are.
All 3 countries languages comes from Norse and there are dialects inside them that are more different then the language differences in general.

I actually highly recommend the English version of this song (AKA "A Lifetime Of War" by Sabaton)
    It has different lyrics. 🙂

That you said Danish band made me quit the song in a second, you never looked it up

The very first sentence in the video description explains what happened: "SORRY about the Danish/Swedish mix-up. Google Translate pointed us in the wrong direction." What we looked up took us in the wrong direction.

Sorry about that. I made the mistake of using Google Translate to translate the title of the song, and it wrongly identified it as Danish. Thank you for watching with us and trying to keep us straight.

We made the mistake of letting Google translate tell us the language of the title of this song, and it translated it as Danish. Thank you for watching and for trying to keep us straight. We welcome this.

Thank you so much for watching with us and for sharing this information. I made the mistake of using Google translate to translate the title of the song, and it mistakenly identified the language as Danish. I have certainly learned from that mistake.
