As a Kurd from Syria, I had to take up arms for my people when ISIS emerged. I was in YPG’s International Platoon due to my English skills and there was this guy from UK who volunteered to fight alongside us and came all the way from UK. By the time he arrived, I have already seen enough combat, lost enough friends and comrades. I couldn’t cry for a year, even when I lost my childhood friend to a SVBIED attack. When he arrived from UK and showed me this song I just couldn’t stop crying. I cried for hours because I realized what war has done to me. I was unable to feel any emotion. Music is god’s gift to humanity, it cures. War is hell.
This song is about the Thirty Years' War that dominated central Europe in the 17th century (1618-1648). To this day it is one of the longest and bloodiest wars in history, with the death toll falling between 4 million and 8 million. Many of the fatalities were not even from active warfare, but famine and disease also plagued the area, upping the casualties that much more. Casualties reached such a high number that many Swedish men were forced to fight when they had barely reached manhood, and sometimes even before then. Which really makes the title of the song ("A Lifetime of War" in English) hit a little harder. Men basically spent their entire lives at war, no chance for a peaceful life. The was about the battle between Catholics and Protestants, and at some point during the war almost every major player/Country in Europe was a part of it. This Swedish version of the song tells the story from a Swedish soldier's point of view. You should also check out the English version; it is not a direct translation from the Swedish, but it rather tells the story of the war from the perspective of the outside people, those not involved directly in the war but were affected by it. The lyrics hits hard, but it also shows that even when times change, new technology comes, one thing remains constant and that is the horrors of the war, both those who fall in it and those who survive and have to live with nightmare every day (ptsd). Greetings from Denmark.

One thing you will never get is a copyright claim by Nuclear Blast Records who are the label who produce Sabaton's albums or Sabaton themselves. They both are very much for people doing reaction videos to their music and in fact have approached other reaction/history based TH-camrs to actually make a video talking about a new video and the subject of said video they may be getting ready to release. Lets just say two of the channels I watch who both react to Sabatons music and one which is a history based channel actually got personal invites to be VIP's at Sabaton's concert in Ohio not long ago and did some videos of them at the concert. They very much love to see their fans enjoying their music and doing these reactions to it.
I was at that show. I'm seated to the right, in the middle from the top, Amazing show! Best live perfomance I've seen this millenum. Before the song started, Joakim told the crowd that: "No one carries a lighter anymore, but all of you have cellphones, so turn the flash on and wave it around." It was an amazing sight to see. And hearing everyone around you singing along to a song we all love. That is brotherhood at its finest
For their first reactions I'm suprised they didn't started to cry in the first 30 seconds. I watched this like 50+ times and still can't hold my tears 😭
So happy that you enjoyed it. I was there on the left side, and I can tell you that when this song started and Joakim asked us to sing along....well let's just say that ther were many among us that cried while singing, a true emotional moment. There is an older live video that I highly recommend... Uprising official live from Woodstock. A song about Polish resistance during WWII, performed with a choir of over 500.000 ppl.

You have just reached another level of Sabaton, the live performances are even better than the studio ones, at least for me. If you would like to see more insane crowds and Sabaton i would recommend you check out 40:1 live at Woodstock 2012, also Ghost Division live is one of their best songs in my opinion. Glad you enjoyed it
I was there I get gouseboups everytime I hear this
We are a very proud nation 🇸🇪
I was on that show....
Its was epic :)
You could try ruina imperii aswell. Also in swedish about the moment after karl XII is murded. The army walked back to sweden from norway and half of them died in a blizzard.
Been watching your content for a while now, loving the reactions btw, you should check out the english version of En livstid I krig - A Lifetime of War.
and also The Hammer has Fallen live too
Important to know that the English version is different from the Swedish version. It's not the same meaning behind the lyrics.
That drummer... Hannes Van Dahl... incredibly good... also the husband of the lead singer in Nightwish - Floor Jansen :P
A talented and lucky man.
Y'all should definitely give resist and bite a watch it's about the 40 Belgian troops that didn't hear the order to fall back and their last known orders were to hold the line so that's what they did for 18 days against Erwin Rommel's ghost division, when the Nazis captured them and asked them where their allies were the Belgians laughed and said we are all
Just an amazing story of pure badassery
EDIT it's a Sabaton Song
SABATON "Christmas Truce"👌👌👌
I did already.
You have just reached another level of Sabaton, the live performances are even better than the studio ones, at least for me. If you would like to see more insane crowds and Sabaton i would recommend you check out 40:1 live at Woodstock 2012, also Ghost Division live is one of their best songs in my opinion. Another very good song live is The price of a mile live at Wacken 2019, this one is really moving.
Thanks, All those songs are near the top of my list.
@@TouchyReactions Wacken reactions can be a bit tricky and get a copy right strike. Not from Sabaton or Nuclear blast, but from Wacken itself.
Great reaction as always, i love seeing you react as a couple too. I suspect you would have possibly shed a tear if you were reacting alone, am i wrong?
Live at Woodstock Poland: 40:1, Uprising and Ghost Division, and from The Great Tour: Carolus Rex, Red Baron, Night Witches
All of those are at the top of my list to do next. Thanks.
Me and my daughter going to see them live in Skellefteå sweden 2022 01 14
I was there too, high up on the right side :)
So cool.
You actually did nail the pronunciation of "En Livstid i Krig". You are now ready to move to Sweden. Enjoy.
Thank You very much.
Joakim conducting a choir of thousands....
Lol, the intro music you used is same as another TH-camr's and I just closed his video to see yours. Haven't watched the entire vid yet but nice lol.
Edit- Glad you guys liked this song!
Thank You. It was a very powerful performance, telling a very sad story.
Awesome video keep it up man :)
Thanks, will do!
Their live version of Great War is great too, though there may be more than one?
Great to see, as always. I’m very glad your enjoying your Sabaton journey.
When you’re ready to try something a little different, I recommend “Awakening” by Unleash the Archers. They’ve become one of my favorite bands.
Cool, thanks! I added it to the list.
Your wife is so cute!!
Yeah she is...
When they look at each other... #relationshipgoals
