Range Report: Diamondback DB-15 (Sometimes you get what you pay for)

  • In this Range Report I review the DB-15 rifle from Diamondback Firearms. This is an affordable entry level carbine that has a spotty reputation but offers many users familiar options with standard AR-15s. This firearm seems to have a few issues with it and I discover them as I get it to the range. This video documents my person thoughts, opinions and experiences with this rifle. Yours may vary.

Hello, I need your help. I am French and I have the same weapon. do you know if it is possible to extend the picatinny rail on the top where it stops without having to change the entire handguard? if you have an internet link with the part that allows you to extend the picatinny rail I am interested. thank you friends .

I resigned from Diamondback 3weeks ago. I was a quality technician and CMM programmer. I left on very good terms. I’m sorry for the issues you have with this rifle. I can assure you that (as of three weeks ago) the locations and diameters of the release pin holes, the safety selector switch hole and the trigger pin holes are being inspected per sample inspection of each lot of 100 lowers. The diameters are measures with calibrated pin gages and the locations are measured with a programmable height gage (Tesa Hite). This was not always the case, but it is now. The uppers are purchased and could contribute to or be the problem for the release pins. On my last day Diamondback had just machined their firs upper. It will be meticulously inspected on a Zeiss CMM and all the bugs worked out before they go into full production. They may be in production now, I don’t know. With diamondback controlling both lowers and upper, these issues will go away. As far as the hand guard goes, Diamondback has five CNC’s dedicated to machining hand guards. They mak many different designs. Some are larger. You should look up the new Obsidian model. It has the larger diameter hand guard. I want one of those. I wish I could address the over gassing issue, but I cannot. The barrels are machined in another facility that is close by. I have worked there a couple of times, but I was just filling in for the vacationing QA tech there. The triggers are purchased. Some models have far better triggers. (The “Diamond” and “Black Gold” models)
In the 2.5 years I was there, the quality and mindset of the organization has made a 180 degree shift for the better. If you tested a rifle made today you would like it far better.
I’m sorry for this rifle’s poor performance.

I just forwarded this and my previous comment to the Diamondback QA director and QA manager. The QA manager responded to me that the “over gassing” issue has recently been brought up to him. He suspects that it may be a barrel issue. I’m no longer there, but I suspect this will be investigated and corrected very soon. Thank you for this review, though it’s not what I want to hear. Please don’t give up on Diamondback. They are moving rapidly to being a supreme quality gun at a very good price.

Nice video as always. I have a DB15, only problem was the hand guard was crooked, rather the mounting of it was crooked I think. I losened it up and retighten it still the front was off center. Didn't even bother putting on iron sights, just went straight with a red dot. Otherwise no complaints about it. Quite accurate for a "low budget" MSR. I bought it as a comparison to my PSA builds... but must say my builds are about as good or even better. But still love my DB15, because it's my. Stay safe Big Jay.

I’m with the other guy…I have a couple of AR’s of almost every manufacturer…I’m old school and don’t like accessories…I will install a new grip, trigger, and maybe a buttstock…other than that ( besides an optic ) that is all I will add differently …my two DB’s are awesome…work fine…as do all my others…AR’s are you simple to modify…whether it be buffers, triggers or BCG’s….easy fixes…if you spend $399 then you have plenty of money to make it very reliable…or just to your liking…sometimes we get very nit-picky…with no reason to be that way…

You do realize you can change the buffer weight and spring for under $100 and make that gassed perfectly. Ive done it to 2 diamond backs. Spitting brass at 3 oclock now run Like a sewing machine. Cut the recoil in half. I have this same one. But if you cant do these things yourself mabie not the best choice tho. Just got one fde. Even the barrel was ceroketed fde on this newer model for 550. And it comes with the full length 15 in handguard now to.

    • @andrewadams5905

@@thetexasgunvault how does it not fix the problem? If it's doing what it's supposed to with h2 and sprinco extra power spring? Cuts the recoil in half. I get it your right with the gas port is to big. But being able to adjust with a buffer is a good thing. If the port is to small you can't turn it up.. Only option is to drill it.. so I would think being over gassd being able to adjust it with buffer and spring is alot better. Alot more options. If it's under gassed your just screwed period.

Yeahhh it’s all subjective or personal experience. I have the exact same Db-15 and I haven’t had ANY of the issues you found. Although the butt stock is definitely super aggressive lol

I wouldn't believe your "friend". Ive never had any issues with my DB15 ever in 6 yrs and ive put enough rounds through it to replace the batrel once. Db rifles are unlike most made all in-house so.parts fit together bettert Business is a dirty trade so you cant trust a business that might have stock in one company to tell you the truth about another that might be a competitor but you can trust the testimony of those whove owned it

@@thetexasgunvault you said he told you they're the most returned rifle, how many would that be? I defend Diamondback for a few reasons one I've never heard of anyone returning their gum nut when the brand first started there was issues in some of the db15 but was quickly fixed. 2 they test a full mag through every hun before it leaves 3 all parts are made in house which lends to heater consistency and fitment of parts i.e. upper to lower and 4 they're an American company employing hundreds of people but most of all my experience has been a great one with Diamondback. I appreciate your video and thank you.

Only thing I can say is the fitment of the upper and lower has a little play but that doesn’t effect the accuracy
