    I recently switched from Evernote to Apple Notes. Every time you post a new Notes video I think, "There's no way I'll find anything useful here. He's already covered everything." And . . every time I'm wrong! Keep up the great work, and keep pushing out the Notes videos.

    I’m a huge instant fan, my top reasons.
    • no excessive chatter
    •you keep the current screen in view as you mention the steps to get to the next screen. So many people enter into the next screen as they’re still saying what needs to be done to get to that screen which gets really confusing.
    •I don’t already know most of the items you’re showing. I watch lots of how to Apple videos and most of them show stuff that’s pretty basic. You’ve unearthed a goldmine of tips. Bloody brilliant. (I’m a yank, that may not be what y’all say, I tried me best)

    One fun thing that I have done when creating a new folder is to use an appropriate emoticon for the first character in the name of the folder. For example, I created a folder to capture medical information, so I used a stethoscope emoticon as the first character before the “Medical Info” title. I keep a book list for when people recommend a book to me and I have a book image as the first character in that folder‘s name. This makes it easy to spot because I recognize the emoticon right away plus it makes my list more colorful. Certainly not an earth shattering tip but fun anyway. I also have a folder for receipts whenever I make a larger purchase. I use the scan function within the note to capture the receipt along with any other relevant information regarding the purchase. Now I never have to hunt for receipts anymore as they’re right at my fingertips. I have a receipt emoticon at the beginning of that title. I’m an organizational nerd so these little and big things that Notes can do have been really helpful.

  • @Sigrimader

    You can get a link into notes from email on iPhone by pressing and holding onto the email (like at the top) swipe up to home screen and open up mail (whilst still holding the email), then dropping the email into the required note. It creates a link with the subject of the email, but the iPad way looks better… I wouldn’t have figured this out without your video 😅
    Loving your videos, I look forward to them each time they come out and catching up on the previous ones too, thanks for the ℹ️, this actually helps a bunch

    Great video as always, thank you! I just wanted to point out for your last tip and linking mail to notes - you can drag and drop on iPhone from mail into notes or reminders etc and it retains the link. This is very helpful for task manager apps such as Things although it is quite a bit easier on ipad/Mac!

    • @ProperHonestTech
      @ProperHonestTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good point - I must admit, I had to look up how to do this! It’s weird having to use 2 hands to make it work, but it’s another viable alternative!

    • @MegaKamilW
      @MegaKamilW 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep, valid point and just to fulfil this topic - drag and drop also works between reminders and calendar (creating calendar event off of existing reminder), mail - reminders, reminders - notes, notes - reminders as well as files - notes and I'm sure there is more!

      Thank you! As for the accent... spent most of my adult life in the Midlands of England, but have a LOT of family from the Durham/Hartlepool area, and have spent the past almost 10 years living down south - east end of London and Kent. So, the accent is a mixed bag 😂 - Northerners think I sound Southern, Southerners think I sound Northern...

For Day to Day reminders & To Do, I prefer using the Calendar application on my iPad / iPhone / iMac - very simple (especially using voice only) and Drag & Drop functionality makes daily updating / changed times, days etc. very easy - Cheers

    If you want to share from the Mail app to reminders you can actually use the trick you mentioned earlier.
    I usually highlight the Subject line of the email and then it gives you the option to “share” to the Share Sheet where you can select Reminders. This will also create a link to the actual email itself that works between iPhone and iPad

    There is actually a way to share an email to a note on iPhone. Use drag and drop. Hold down on the email that you want to put in a note and then while holding it use your other hand or another finger to navigate to a note and drop it in.

    Now let’s see them add it to messages. So many times I need to remember something from a message and have to take the time to create a reminder. I’d if could share, like the other apps, much quicker. Or, allow me to mark as ‘unread’ so I am reminded to go back to it.
    Guess this is more about reminders than notes, but both options would be awesome!

    After binge watching your amazing videos for a few days I’m sitting here with my iPad planning future travel using split screens in Safari and saving interesting links to trip folders in Notes. I didn’t know how to take advantage of these futures until finding your channel. Thanks for what you do and early congratulations on 100k subscribers - which I’m sure you achieve very soon! Maybe an idea for a future video could deal with the advantages of how Contacts, Calendar and Maps can work together on iPhone, iPad and CarPlay. A CarPlay stand alone video would be great too. I got rid of my Mac a couple years ago as the iPad is so capable now, so I skip your Mac videos. Hope I’m not missing anything that applies also to iOS devices.

    Much like how you demonstrated sending a Note to the Reminders app, in Apple Mail you can highlight the subject line (or any part of the email) and share it to Notes or Reminders, which will create a link to that email. I like doing that if I want to be reminded of an email at a later date. It's similar to a snooze function you see in other email services, and I wish Apple would add it as an option to their Mail app.

      This works exactly the same in iOS. I do it on my iPhone. If you click on the subject line in the email it will bring up the Copy/Look Up/…/Share menu and you can click on Share and then I use it to click on Reminders. That creates a reminder with a link to the original email. And like you mention, you can actually click on text in the email and it will do the same thing. It will create the title of the reminder using the subject line of the email and below that in the note field it will show whatever word(s) you highlighted. You can then edit the reminder while saving it or later in the reminders app. This is a great way to be reminded of an email later. I also wish there was just a quick snooze function that allowed you to be reminded of an email.

    Great Tips for Apple Notes - thanks for sharing and keep up the great work! I would love to find an option to quickly create a new note with dictation started so that I can begin dictating the contents of the new note. I found a shortcut that sorta works but it asks several questions like language choice, etc before it actually starts dication defeating the quickness element of the process. Another says that "speech recognition is not currently available and you may need to connect to the internet" and does not allow dictation to start even though I am obviously connected to the internet. I look forward to and welcome any additional features to notes that may come in June with iOS 16! Cheers

    Stumbled across this. Do you know of a better way to have a template than copying an existing note?
    For instance, I have a workout template that I have pinned in a folder. I copy that and delete all but the template for a given day/workout and unpin the copy. I then can record all my workout weights/reps/sets/etc. I am unaware of a feature to make this more streamlined.

    If you hold on a piece of mail on the iPhone you can drag it around, back out of the mail app while still holding it, open notes, create new note and drop it in the note. This will create a link to the email on your iPhone

    Question: I like to keep my email clean so I tend to move all of my read emails to trash. If I am creating a link in Notes or another application to an email what happens if the email is deleted? Is there a place to keep emails that I want to save for some such purpose?

    • @robdamiano7738
      @robdamiano7738 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same issue. I dug around the shortcut itself, I'm pretty new at Shortcuts btw, and I realized at the very bottom, the last action "Create note with" is not setup correctly.
      If your's is like mine it will say: Create note with [Body] in [Folder]
      Right click on macOS or tap and hold on iOS [Body] and select the variable [Text].
      And you should be good to go.

    I dont see line below date and no reminder option when I do share copy

  • @jvallas
    @jvallas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    All the underlining and turning things yellow drive me crazy when I type in dates or times (or it just *looks* like dates or times). It’s often meant to be informational, not a link; e.g., rise bread 1:00., bake bread 3:00, etc. I also don’t have great eyesight and yellow is AWFUL. Does anyone know a setting that will stop it doing this (like the autocorrect setting)? I know I can type it differently, but I prefer that my notes conform to everything else I ever write or type. Dark mode probably helps with color - but it still doesn’t get around links being created. Thanks.

    I just discovered a very interesting feature in Apple notes, if you insert a link for TH-cam and you select the big icon for the link you can preview the video inside the note without even opening TH-cam app. But only works with the big icon, if you select transform to small image it doesn’t work. I think that this feature could be very interesting for researchers because instead of putting the link and open the link it’s possible to preview directly from the Apple note the video while you are taking notes or writing something about that video.

    • @ProperHonestTech
      @ProperHonestTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you mean by 'big icon' I'm afraid? Are you doing this on the iPhone? As I've not been able to replicate what you're referring to, and it does sound interesting...

    • @Jffb82
      @Jffb82 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ProperHonestTech When you insert a link on apple notes you get a wide icon where you click to go to link. If you hold the icon you get some options: copy, share, Large Images & delete. To do what I said in the previous comment you have to change to the Large Images and then you will have a big icon which can even do the preview of the video.

  • @brentbeacham9691
    @brentbeacham9691 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry, Apple use to be intuitive. Now it’s a witches brew you have to spend a lot of time learning. I’ve tried to create a short cut to simply bring up a list when I say, “Hey Siri, car list”. Then the list of 12 items pops up, from reminders or notes or I don’t care, so I can read the list. I found a shortcut that I maybe able to modify that works. But I can’t modify it or see all the steps in the one that is a working shortcut. I really hate this Apple stuff sometimes.
