There are many TH-cam channels devoted to the iPhone and iPad but I can honestly say that when it comes to explaining how to use a particular Apple App.Yours is by far the best. Your clear diction, explanation and careful guidance is far ahead of the others. As a “Senior” and a lover of the capabilities of the iPad, you as been an immense help in my learning and User experience. Many thanks indeed.

Tom, I can't imagine how many hours it took you to put this together. The presentation is so smooth - no fumbling for words (I assume you must script it out?). You undoubtedly spent hours researching the functionality of the app itself, then put together all the appropriate screen shots, etc. The result is a very professional-looking, thorough, and informative tutorial. If I might offer one small suggestion, it would be to add some kind of emphasis (red circle, arrow, etc) showing the button or icon you refer to when navigating. Very well done, sir!

Apple had a product called Claris Organizer and it had all the elements that you are asking. Calendar, reminder, and notes. It also allowed for the integration and connection of documents to calendar events reminders and notes. It was a brilliantly conceived and implemented product. But they sold it to a company called palm so that company could have a desktop application that their palm pilot organizer could synchronize with.

So glad I watched your video because I really was unsure of how powerful Apple Notes were and then I did a search on dictation and apple help had a short 30 second video on dictation into notes this is a powerful dictation note taking app. I will have to see if thousands of folders will break it but I am game. Appreciate the sharing and folder organization of your video. Thanks again.

Dictation on Apple devices is pretty good in my opinion. I wouldn't want to use it for long periods, but for jotting down the odd note without having to type, it's pretty good. I even tried using it to reply to all of my emails at one point, allowing me to reply while I was making a coffee or breakfast. It was a bit of an unnecessary life hack, but it was cool to be able to do it!

Really useful-I knew most things but picked up a few tricks. One small correction that I only recently realized myself - you don’t actually have to tap just on the flat part of the Apple Pencil to get it to switch uses. For a long time I thought this was the case which I found irritating because I had to make sure my grip was touching the flat part and just the right way, but if you double tap it anywhere it will still do this function.

Two things in particular that will serve me well.
    • assigning Face ID to locked notes
    • folders within folders. I have a pet sitting folder with many documents. I was able to create a sub folder for the client info notes, a folder for the forms about my business, and contracts that I send to them, and a packing checklist folder.
    Thanks again.

I learned so much from your tutorial. Very easy to follow & understand. Notes is very, very good and sure there are things that can be improved on but when used correctly nobody should complain too much about the application. IMO, the most difficult task or one I trip up on the most is creating a subfolder within a previously existing folder.

I’m glad somebody with a high profile has mentioned that Apple should have a more comprehensive version of this facility. I really think there should be an option to toggle between an “all-in-one” app, like having Numbers, Pages, Notes, Reminders and anything else useful bundled in a synced “Office 365”- type program, and the option to keep them separate.

While limited, Shortcuts adds some features that can be handy. You can use it to create and open notes with standard titles and/or content, perhaps in a diary or journal folder. I've also created and used a shortcut that records audio, converts it to text, then appends it to a previously specified note. It date time stamps the entry, and can also add the note's location. I was using it to record quick bits of info while out and about, so I could enter then in a permanent record later. There are probably a lot of applications for this kind of log note. I just wish Apple would give us more Shortcut actions to play with in Notes.

I have been playing with notes apps for the past week and have pretty much decided that this is the best all around option. That said, I would feel much better if there were an option to pass export all notes to a backup folder. It could be a plain text or a JSON folder. I would feel better knowing that my data needn't be locked up in a proprietary app forever.

Nice work! I was hoping you’d get to a section of Notes that would be able to insert a PDF file and then write and highlight til your heart’s content but unfortunately Apple doesn’t do it like Notability, so although I do use Notes for simple stuff, I still need Notability for more advanced stuff

You actually can do that by holding on the PDF document in your iCloud folder and choose share and then notes and then create new note. Once in notes if you double tap it will open the note and from there you can annotate or highlight the PDF and it will save it to your notes. Only down side is changes don't migrate back to the original PDF in your iCloud folder so no changes appear on that file. You can share and save a copy back to the original folder however with an option to keep both or replace and then your edits will be in your iCloud folder as well.

I agree with Bryan and other, your content and approach are better then most if not the best. As I watched this vid once again you mentioned there is no way to set a reminder from a note or about a note, well the little bell in my head went off and I think you need to update with a new Notes/Reminders vid. I ran across away to set reminders from a note and also a very useful photos hack using notes.
    As for the Notes/Reminders
Open the note you want to set up a reminders about and highlight the title or the first few words or anything in the note and you will get a pop up (cut, copy, paste, and share), click share and pick Reminders and then sets date/time and whatever you like. Works Great. From reminders it will label the reminder with your text you copied or the Title if the note has a Title and will also give you a link to open the Original note.
    As for the Note/Photos hack
If you have photos that are let say for your eyes only, select the photos and send them to the Notes app. Once in the notes app you can lock them or not, but the cool thing is you can now delete them from your Camera Roll so others don’t see them there and they are still in your Notes app for your viewing pleasure, locked or not.
One other thing I noticed if you have several Notes locked and unlock one it unlocks them all till you lock them back. Not sure why they did it this way, but I guess it saves you having to come up with multiple passwords for all the notes you want to lock.
I’m sure this is just the tip of what all we can do to link all the Apple apps into one working unit.
    Thanks

I felt like the company (well, the product, but I guess by connection, the company) had gotten a bit stagnant and boring, especially for a paid product. Notes is weaker in many ways, but it's also free, and does enough to keep me using it. But yeah, some integration from Apple would be awesome. Why not a 'lifestyle' app (I'm sure Apple can think of a fancy name for it) that somehow merges your calendar, notes, reminders, possibly even email together in one? That would be killer.

I learned a lot from your video, thank you. But, I can not find the answer for my issue and tried many videos. When I type in the Notes, some of my notes are black, and some (at random) come out yellow! How do I make them all black. I am sure it’s a simple solution, but I am a senior, 76 lol. Please help😊 niki

Another great tutorial. You didn't cover 'search notes' however. For years I have been a heavy user of Notes yet have learned some new tips from you. On of the uses is to keep a list of songs I use each week in Church. I would simply 'search' the notes (iCloud, as I use various devices on one Apple account) for a given song (e.g Amazing Grace), and all the notes with that phrase/song title would appear in a list. But now, my search criteria produces a list of all notes with even one word in the search criteria. E.g, if I look for He knows my name, it finds notes with 'he' as well, and that's not very helpful. I want it to put at the top of the list, the notes with the whole search phrase. How do I do that? It used to work. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I have a question! I used Apple Notes but I stopped using it, because in the long notes when I opened it I always went to the beginning and I wasted a lot of time going down to the end. Is there no way to change that?

I just came across your channel and am enjoying it….learning and enjoying. On the subject of Apple notes I started using Apple notes quite some time ago. I have learned a lot more from your video. However the problem that I seem to have created for myself is now out of expediency and ease of use I have created myself quite a collection of notes. Well the concept of notes which is handy became longer notes if the juices were flowing as I had the idea and kept writing. It started with research on a topic that in itself was multifaceted resulting in thoughts on various topics at different times and simply always instinctively started a new note every time. Obviously was not well thought out and had just begun entering the APPLE WORLD. So finally my quandary Is getting all those notes into an app that I can now start writing a report perhaps with Table of Contents.etc…. Although it may be beyond The Apple Notes Question I am trying to decide what May be a good app that would be appropriate for the report…..that is a tough one. Back to notes I have been unable to find an easy way after putting my notes in categories somehow…..how to combine them to export/import to the report app. There does not seem to be a way other than exporting one by one I believe and not combining groups of notes together. I hope I explained myself well and welcome and thank you for taking time to read and welcome your thoughts. Charlie Nielson
