I've just recently discovered your channel. Lately I am watching a new video each day. I am an old person who began programming back in the 70s and retired in 2000. Technology today has advanced so far beyond my skill set. Now, you are helping me join the 21st century. Thanks, Proper Honest Tech.

This is such a cool comment. I hope you’re having fun reminiscing on how technology was and comparing to how far it has come to today.

      @@AlexisRanae - Thank you, Alexis.
Yes, I grew up with dial telephones and black and white television. I still have my 64K, 80C85-based computer in my closet. Mostly I like the new technology but what I miss is being able to write programs and run them and I knew everything that was going on inside the computer. I was programming IBM mainframes back in the early 70s. It wasn't until around 2000 that PCs caught up to the sophistication that the mainframes had even in the Early 70s. Today, I'm just blown away with how the machines have advanced. One cool thing, though, is knowing that some code I wrote way back in that day is still running today because memories were so small and processors so slow, efficiency of code was required, and that efficiency is still required today for some applications.
      Blessings to you!

I chatted with someone recently who has a similar story to yours. He described having to print the compiled byte code onto some sort of film and learning assembly language was how you got the hardware to do the needful. Was a very interesting conversation.

I was looking for a way to ditch Evernote and find a great alternative. Some are expensive, cumbersome, overwhelming, underwhelming and there is Notes… I exported my enex notebooks and imported every single notes to Notes. Added some tags to every note imported and created smart folders, and the job is done. The search function is amazing. Please make a video on Apple product sinergies (notes/reminder/mail/calendar/shortcuts) etc… there’s a whole productivity ecosystem that people aren’t aware of. Congratulations on a great job you did here 👏🏻👏🏻

I’m working on it, but help would be appreciated.

I absolutely love Apple Notes. There are just 2 things that I'd like them to do:
    - Just like you mentioned, allow Smart Folders to be nested into one another - I already have folders like that so allowing them to be Smart Folders would just make things easier and quicker.
    - Being able to record and replay recordings that are synced with notes, like you can in Notability.

    • @Frisson391
      @Frisson391 ปีที่แล้ว

Very much agree and ephasize the ability to nest folders. Perhaps its their way of not creating a duplicate.
I would add noe that freeform is available the ability to share a note directly to freeform would be much appreciated and remive the steps of copy and paste as it can be done but clunky

I've used the Notes app in IOS since 2016. I press the Talk to Siri button on my Kia's steering wheel while driving and say "Note to self" and Siri opens the Note app and says "what do you want it to say?" and Siri transcribes the note into Note app and reads it back to me if it is long enough. It can even read back previous notes one at a time if I so choose.
Secondly, I almost always use the mic button to enter text in Notes and Google Keep and other apps as well since it is much easier to speak than to one finger type.
Thirdly, the default type face is Bold Title type face but if you once select Subheading Not Bold it will stay at that type face until you change it even when using voice input.
I have used and loved both Google Keep and Notes for years and find them very valuable and they even work with my Apple Watch.

Only minor gripes , I’d love to see the OneNote feature of being able to do numeric calculations on notes . Also I do miss the ‘infinite’ canvas of OneNote. But only minor issues . Apple notes is excellent.

Hi, Tom. This one is good. Thanks. I like and use Notes a lot. What I miss here is ability to copy/move note to calendar event. What we can do is to copy whole text (Cmnd C - Cmnd V) we have in note then move it to existing calendar event but what I mean is to have a quick action/button to do so. For example any Note - 3dot section and click to add to calendar event or create new event just right from the note app. I hope one day we get this as a gift from Cupertino.

I’d like to see the “notes” part of Reminders tied to Notes. Guessing you’d have to make better use of smart folders to make that work great. But it would reduce the confusion of backtracking to an older note/item without wondering which app to start in… while simultaneously improving the functionality of reminders notes. For instance, when you create a reminders list, you could choose to make a notes folder (or subfolder) to sync to it.

Hey thanks for a really great tutorial on Notes! Since you ask for suggestions on improving stuff in general in the iOS realm, I do have something to offer though obviously it is up to Apple to work on the improvements. Similar to how Notes has been improved over time incrementally to become a relatively sophisticated tool I think what is also in dire need to be worked on is the Contacts app! I have found it to be very useful in categorizing information having to do with specific people or companies. In the notes section below the contact, I put in a lot of Information as needed, but I have found it very finicky as well as problematic when I want to add a picture or anything more complicated than just plain text, that could add significant information relative to the contact. I think that a lot of work needs to be done to this app to bring it up to date, including enhancing the fields that are available within the database as well as its ability to cross reference between the apps of the ecosystem the way the Notes app can now do. Thanks for your time.

The "link note to current context" feature is excellent. Hopefully they've surfaced (or plan to surface) the SDK hooks so app developers can use this too! / Just tried it with Safari and the "link" is two way: if you go back to Safari, to the tab you've made a QuickNote of, a linked thumbnail appears. It is, however, wonky, inconsistent. If you dismiss it, it only comes back if you relaunch Safari. (They should add it to the share/functions menu at least as well as fixing that UX snag.)

I can't get thé suggest app link feature in quick notes to work, even with the suggested settings enabled. Not sure what's up. Edit: worked from Mail, but not Safari

Wow, this was a great video on Notes. I didn't realize that Notes had improved so much. I have started creating new folders for my info because I use the Notes App so much now. Will be able to find information quicker after viewing your video. Appreciate the work you put into making this one. Awesome.

Hi, great video! One question, can you share Locked Notes? I’d like to share financial info with my wife, but would prefer that we could keep the note locked as an additional protection for it.

I would like the option to color or highlight text.
