    Another big thing you can do with Crescendo of War is pairing it with First Strike or Double Strike cards, to really deter your opponents from attacking you.
    Things like True Conviction, Valor, Archetype of Courage, Knighthood, or even Concerted Effort, Odric Lunarch Marshal, and Angelic Skirmisher.

    Man, I just wanted to send you out a MONSTER thank you for these vids bro. I've been playing and collecting magic since 94' but only recently got unstubborn and started checking out commander format. Around 2 years and just recently started really getting into it. TH-cam algorithm started suggesting your channel so I clicked and boom! I love this content. I swear, after each video I'm thinking wow, that was better than the last one! So if you see a surge in likes for your older stuff, that'll be me trolling your vids. Thanks again, excellent work.

    • @EulogyfortheAngels

      It’s funny because this vid is gonna get those cards played and a ton of 4+ color deck owners (like me) to ask them not to play land destruction. That, or the player casting them realizes they essentially auto-kill specific people at the table and feel bad lol.
      Highly subjective taste of course, but LD isn’t a thing in my playgroup. Our decks tend to be around 7 power level and below, too.

    Might I suggest using Eye of Doom with Nesting Grounds? Move those Doom Counters that end up on your stuff onto anything you want. Nesting Grounds also happens to be really good for Sagas if you're tinkering with those, so that could be a good time to toss Eye of Doom in a deck!

  • @ultimateretroasd

    - Crescendo of war is hands down busted in Marisi, breaker of the coil.
    - Crown of doom is good but quite risky too because the player who receive the crown will inmmediatelly send it back to you as soon as he can. You need a couple of fog effects to prevent backlash.
    - Spoils of doom looks good to consider in Umbris
    - Act of authority is legit fun.
    - Stormsurge Kraken is potentially an MVP in Runo Stromkirk

    With the crown of doom. I was under the impression if someone died anything they controlled not just owned and everything they own that anyone else controls, leaves the game with them? Meaning crown would leave the table when they died?

    • @tankdempsey1818
      @tankdempsey1818 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, any permanents they controlled but didn't own get put into exile

    • @tzarl
      @tzarl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only if the permanent or spell was under their control from the beginning. So if someone uses gonti to steal and cast a creature it would get exiled when they lose. However if they used agent of treachery to steal a creature of mine in play it would go back to me when they leave the game.

    • @LadyTsunade777
      @LadyTsunade777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When a player leaves the game:
      1. All cards they own leave the game.
      2. All effects that caused them to gain control of permanents already on the battlefield end. (Ex. leaving player had cast Insurrection, all those creatures return to their owners but stay on the battlefield.)
      3. All cards they control but don't own get exiled _only if_ they entered the battlefield under the leaving player's control. (Ex. leaving player had cast Rise of the Dark Realms, all those creatures would be exiled.)
      So for Crown of Doom, since it changed control and didn't enter under that player's control, it just goes back to its owner's control.

Just answers so many late game issues with enchantment/artifact build up and gets rid of any pesky OP non-basics. If my primary deck goal has failed, these cards will not save me, they are win harder cards and they are easily disrupted. I feel to vulnerable with them.

    The Crown of Doom discussion brought up an interesting topic that I hadn't really thought about very deeply before - what happens when a player leaves the game whilst controlling permanents (cards) owned by another player. I guess I didn't realize that temporary change of control effects, such as that of Control Magic or Act of Treason, end when the player leaves the game, so control reverts back the previous controller or owner, as the case may be. But effects like Bribery or any permanent control exchange effects cause the stolen card to get exiled. But wouldn't the Crown of Doom effect count as a permanent control exchange effect and cause it to get exiled when the current controller leaves the game? There's no "until this leaves the battlefield" or "until end of turn" or any "until" effect.

    • @huntersimon1044
      @huntersimon1044 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To add on to the other persons reply, it all matters about how someone gained control of something they don't own. If its something like crown, or something stolen that was already a permanent (like from the new Invoke the Winds for example), and the person that was given control/took control of the permanent left the game, whoever had control of it before them regains Control of it. However, if someone steals a card from other zones, like with bribery or reanimating something from an opponents graveyard and then does, that card is exiled. Its all about if it was already a permanent controlled by a player beforehand. If it was, whoever controlled it before gets it back. If it wasn't then no one gets it, and it's exiled.

    Crown of Doom will return to the player who most recently had control of it when a player dies with it. So if you give it to Adam and Adam gives it to Bob, then if Bob dies the crown goes to *Adam,* not you, since Adam was the most recent controller of the Crown.

    I like the idea of Act of authority outside of blink decks but the problem is the guy who's playing the enchantment and artifact stax deck can just exile the Act of authority with it's own ability. Probably why it doesn't see much play tbh. 3 mana exile two artifacts or enchantments with a delayed trigger on the second isn't great even for that cost. :(

    I am not gonna lie, I dont think any of these cards are that playable aside from in niche decks with specific synergies, aside from wave of vitriol and that red card put with it. A lot of these seem, too slow, or too narrow, or too costly for what they do.
    For example, illusionists gambit can be strong in some board states, but not only is holding up 4 mana a lot to ask, but the extra effect of an extra combat where you are safe may not even be relevant, if you are the last player, or if the attacker has no other profitable attacks, hell it may benefit them if they have any attack triggers that they can use again. What reason is there to hold this card up over a fog effect, or even something like an Aetherize, which is the same cost, but actually sets the opponents board state back while also protecting yourself. Not to mention I think Aetherize and fog are both fairly weak commander cards in the first place.
    I did enjoy the video however, even if I disagree I like seeing other peoples perspectives on cards and their usage.

    Spoils of Blood is just worse in a lot of ways than Bloodsoaked Paladin, which is just a Flash creature that gets a ton of counters for the number of creatures that died this turn. It's 2 mana instead of one, but it's an actual creature, gets +1/+1 counter synergies and vampire synergies.

    • @PBlot1

      Ok, it's a worse blood soaked paladin. That's not a reason to avoid using the card though, is it? I'd think a non-vampire black deck that cares about such a board-wipe countermeasure may want both cards.

    Pretty sure that when the player who controls crown of doom dies, the crown is then exiled and you dont get it back. This is coming from a zedruu player who donates things.

    But what if you cast illusionist gambit after damage to make your opponent strike for another round for sudo double strike? :D

    Dang, Domineering Will needs to go in Marchesa of the Black Rose. Like now.

    I used to play things like Crown of Doom and Crescendo of War, but found it backfires too easily. An opponent takes the lead, get boosted by the effect, and knocks out another player. Now it's just you versus the better boardstate, while before the other player could've helped stop the opponent. I prefer to have control over how and when I boost my opponents.

      One of the benefits of Crescendo is that it speeds up games (if you get in long games frequently).

    I think of a deck's lieutenant more as a backup Commander. This Lieutenant design is bad because it just incentivses for opponents to remove your commander. A more interesting design would be an effect that is stronger if you don't control your commander at the same time as the lieutenant

      this is the reason why i like bastion protector/guardian augmenter. they haven't lieutenant but sort of. these 2 in particular function like some sort of parasol for your commander even tho they're useless without them.
