I also think just asking yourself before you eat something sugary, "Do I really want this or am I just eating it to be social or because I have a habit of eating something sugary after a meal, etc.?" And also, "Does having a whole slice of cake truly bring me more enjoyment than having a few bites?" because often if we're not eating mindfully we only enjoy the first few bites, so you don't get much more enjoyment out of eating the rest.
I must admit switching was hard for me but as you mention your taste buds will adjust the more you stick with it. It was hard for me to switch from ground beef to ground turkey, full fat milk to 1% to skim to unsweetened nut milk, from heavy salt to light to no salt. And now I have no problem eating these things. I think it took about a month or two of consistency. Now I’m working on slowly eliminating simple sugars. I actually consume a lot of “sugar free” products but even sugar alcohols has its concerns. Sugar is a hard one for me because I love sweets. But I’m starting with a changed mind and stepping out on faith!
I gave up soda for Lent one year and haven't really enjoyed it ever since. I genuinely just don't like it anymore and it gave me an instant stomach ache when I drank it on Easter. So cold turkey worked for me with soda!
I have gestational diabetes and the best thing i have learned about this journey is how to eat sugar correctly, like pairings, order of eating. Also, thank god for glucose goddess.
One thing that really helps me with sweetness is - in Canada I buy the frozen PC berries. The wild blue berries & raspberries are wonderful. I let them thaw in the fridge for a day or two and add to yogourt, oatmeal, smoothies. It seems to make them have a bit of a sweetness and I don’t feel so bad eating them!
I'm from Minnesota and we say "pop" too, so no need to translate for me! I enjoy the very practical matter-of-fact teaching in this video. Sugar and fat are understood by industrialized peoples to be such loaded terms when they're really just a part of the food we need to eat. Going back to the pop, I introduced my parents to seltzer water and they took to it like ducks to, well, water. No fuss and no need to restrict. Just a natural process of expanding the palate without judgement. There's nothing wrong with drinking pop, but, let's face it, it's not the only refreshing thing out there to imbibe! BTW: Love the curls.
Hi Megan! I loved the video because I’m a diabetic person, but sometimes I’m afraid to eat fruits because of the sugars. Can you make a video with tips for a diabetic person. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you so much for this video so I recently went back to my holistic doctor and I got some blood work done. Turns out my glucose and sugar are very high but I’m not surprised about. My biggest thing is I have such an extremely sweet tooth. I am like one of those people that has to have something sweet after anything salty, or savory. I don’t have as much as a sweet tooth for extreme sweets anymore, so sometimes I will just have fruit instead , but I need something sweet. I wish I could stop. but im always in need for some kind of dessert I love baking cakes and pastries I wish I could find some healthy recipes.
That is so interesting about what stopping intake can do when forcing it. I went 6 months without sugar two times. It was fine to do, but maybe that wasn't a good idea? Thanks for the lesson today. I like how you taught more about balancing how to eat it. Your natural hair is great. You should just do that all the time, as nature intended your hair to be! It is lovely.
Hey, me neither 🙂, but it's great that she didn't cut that out. It's important to laugh at ourselves and not to take everything too seriously. It's also a reminder for myself. Have a great day lovely people 😊
Hey, Megan! 😄 I really enjoy your informative and engaging videos about healthy living. Your tips on reducing sugar intake are so practical and make a lot of sense. I appreciate how you address the mindset around sugar and the idea of not restricting ourselves too much, which can often lead to counterproductive cravings. It's such a refreshing approach! I was intrigued by your suggestion to pair treat foods with protein and fiber. It seems like a great way to find a balance between enjoying a treat and still feeling satisfied. Can you share a personal example of how you've successfully used this strategy to curb sugar cravings? Looking forward to more insightful content from you! Keep up the awesome work! 👍🌱
Absolutely, finding a balance and avoiding strict restrictions is key when it comes to maintaining a healthy relationship with food. Pairing treat foods with protein and fiber is a strategy that has personally helped me curb sugar cravings.

I think Meghan reads our craving sugar minds 😁 I guess it's that time of the year when we eat a lot of ice cream, popsicles, drinking sweet 'refreshing' drinks to cool ourselves down and like she has mentioned, the vicious circle starts. I wish all of us struggling, to achieve our goals (whatever it may be) and live a healthy life 😊💪
I don’t eat breakfast and for lunch i have veggie salad, 2 boiled eggs, natto and small size of sweet potato and chamomile tea with mct oil. A stop eating foods with high processed sugar if I crave something sweet i just eat half banana or kiwi, i don’t snack and my last meal is 6pm. I live here in Tokyo and i was surprised the first time we went to the US , everything is sweet and large size😭 we don’t like it .
I'm glad that you mentioned the Advocado,Chicken,Fish ect. Otherwise you will feel hungry all the time. I found some zero sugar products here in NL. And coffee without sugar isn't that bad😅😊
Great video! Would you ever consider creating a video on how to eat healthy for managing hypoglycemia? I’m working with a nutritionist and between her and watching your videos, this less sugar content is great!
You can search it up on google generally natural sweeteners are an “okay” alternatives for sugar it makes you less hungry and makes the cravings decrease (saying it with experience) but it’s better to not overdo it and take it multiple times a day personally I use Stevia when drinking tea but that’s it for the day maybe when making a keto dessert I also still use stevia as a better alternative but as someone who isn’t professional on this stuff it’s better to still search and watch vids about it hope this helps!
Hello Meghan, your video just appeared in my recommendations and I absolutely loved it! Thank you so much for all of these tips 💗 Definitely going to check out your other content. Sending hugs and love!
Hey Meghan, Thank you so much for this video however, I am wondering if there’s anyway that you can do a video on Diverticulitis and or low FODMAP! I have dealt with IBS my whole life and now it’s starting to get so bad that I am bloated all the time except for when I wake up in the morning I’m super flat and then by the end of the day I’m huge so recently I just got over diverticulitis and lost 10 pounds and I’ve been on the Low FODMAP diet and although it’s great and I’m hardly having any sugar at all other than fruit I’m still having a hell of a time with my stomach and I see my gastroenterologist today, but I swear all of my issues I believe are from restrictive dieting and how I go up and down in my weight way too often and I’m just so frustrated I’m 52 I’m postmenopausal and I have just changed my entire life all because of my bloating I don’t go out. I don’t see friends a lot I don’t go on vacations that much anymore. I quit my job it’s just taking over my entire life so if there’s anyway you can reach out to me privately or I could even do a consultation with you I just don’t know what else to do anymore. A recent stool test showed that I have a bacteria overgrowth throughout my body and no it’s not SIBO I’ve been tested for that before but I still think I have it. It’s just not coming out on a breath test because those are so stupid and half the time I don’t know if I did it right anyways. Sorry for the long rant, but this is getting really old. Thank you!❤
Such a helpful video, Meghan, thank you! When you take sugar out of a baking recipe, do you replace it with something else, or do you reduce down the other ingredients? Thank you.
Salt is very important for life even the bible talks about it. But we should not use the bad one (table salt). Try using celtic and Himalayan salt. It will change a lot
First few bits, was so funny! Felt a little guilty with my sugar intake though. But yeah, I'm not Meghan (LOL) P.s I always enjoy your presentation. Greetings to Sadie and Sean :)
I can totally attest to getting used to things being less sweet over time (and honestly it didnt take a long time either!) I moved to Japan in my early 20s and was initially shocked by the lack of sweetness in most of the food I was offered/eating inclufing the dessert options. I remember everything seeming very bland the first couple of weeks. Even the fountain pop at restaurants was less sweet than what I was used to at home in Canada (Windsor, On 😉) my first trip home was a little less than a year later and I couldn't hardly stomach the sweetness in everything! I lived in Japan for 10years. I've been living in the U.S. now for about 8 years and I still am sensitive about the sweetness. So all that to say is once you cut sweetness it really doesn't take too long to be able to prefer less sweet things over all which seens to have a lasting effect 😁
Yay, another member of the "Megan with an h" club!! (aka "no one ever spells your name right" haha) I tend to have really strong reactions to added sugars, particularly if they're combined with dairy (curious if one aggravates the other). My nutritionist and I have talked a lot about increasing protein and fiber and holy cow has it made a difference. Still looking into sugar replacements for baking because it's a hobby, but I've started eating fruit or making protein smoothies more often if the cravings for sweet stuff come about. Thanks for all of the tips! You are a godsend! ☺

I love your natural curls. They're soft and bouncy, frames your face beautifully.
Thank you very much! :)

LOL
Why are we here in this life, why do we die, what will happen to us after death?
Reading a label is not easy all the time (I’d rather avoid it intentionally 😂) I will try it! Thanks Meghan.
I love your emotion when sharing information so so much ❤❤❤
Great video, I wanted to ask can you make a video how to read food labels 😊

Reading and understanding labels is important, because sugar can be sneaky.
This video could not have come at a better time for me. I have seriously been struggling with my sugar addiction.
Wow!! You just read my mind. I have been struggling with my sugar intake this last couple weeks. ❤❤❤❤ Great Timing!!!

What do u think of sweeteners like agave syrup, stevia, erythritol?
You can search it up on google generally natural sweeteners are an “okay” alternatives for sugar it makes you less hungry and makes the cravings decrease (saying it with experience) but it’s better to not overdo it and take it multiple times a day personally I use Stevia when drinking tea but that’s it for the day maybe when making a keto dessert I also still use stevia as a better alternative but as someone who isn’t professional on this stuff it’s better to still search and watch vids about it hope this helps!

Hey I like that it was very informative❤
Thank you for this video, I’ve been trying to reduce how much sugar I eat and you’ve really changed my mindset and approach to it. 👏🏼
Such a helpful video, Meghan, thank you! When you take sugar out of a baking recipe, do you replace it with something else, or do you reduce down the other ingredients? Thank you.
Some use maple syrup or honey its a bit healthier. But a lot of recipes are very over sweet i noticed as a home backer
Hi Meghan!
Could you make a video about salt?
If it’s healthy and how to reduce it?

Your hair is gorgeous.
Thanks Meagan ❤
