  • The brand new Triumph Street Scrambler Sandstorm Edition got dropped off on Friday. This is one of just 775 made worldwide with just 837 miles on the clock and I'm lucky enough to enjoy it for 13 days!
    These are my first impressions on day one with the motorcycle, but I'll make sure to try it off road and on longer trips to find out how practical it is, how fun it is on normal roads and how capable it is off road.

    Great review of you first day with your Street Scrambler. I got the Sandstorm in May and absolutely love it (done over 1600km through the beaches south of Sydney). You are spot on with the power, perfect for roads, overtakes on motorway with ease and revs at about 4000rpm at 120km/h. With the exhaust, it can get warm when riding in slow traffic, but never hot. The pillion exhaust protector doesn't get hot at all. Safe riding and have fun on a beautiful bike,

      The SS on the beaches of Sydney- that sounds like heaven!🙂
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it- and the exhaust point, very good to know!

    Owned one of these for 2 years now ( first of the 65bhp models ) the white tank one which to
    my eyes suits the Scrambler better than any other colour. , the one Triumph used it in all the
    promotion shots .
    I have now covered almost 7000 miles despite Covid restrictions .
    I've owned 30+ bikes over the years , and I just LOVE the Scrambler .
    Its one of those bike's that is greater than the sum of its parts , FAR more than just a Street Twin with a makeover .
    The style , riding position and sound just gel and suit the platform so well , everything feels right about it.
    It sounds a cliche but its can do everything , its so comfy and laid back like a cruiser if you want it to be , but
    give it some beans and it turns into a snarling surprisingly quick little hooligan with enough grunt to overtake
    anything with ease .
    You must get out of the city onto some real roads though .. its just fantastic blasting around twisty
    B roads and country lanes . With the exhaust barking away as you ride the torque it's a bike that reminds you
    what real motorcycling is all about !

    • @FreddieDobbs
      @FreddieDobbs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love them in white too!😍
      And absolutely right- I'll be going into the countryside and also a bit of off roading in the next video!😀

    Gret vid. Thank you so much for giving your height and showing you sitting on the bike. Its so helpful and the way you review and show the bike is just more practical than FPV reviews just talking and showing a forward view of the road! It's great to see the bike in real situations - i.e. parked up and admiring it from a distance as, let's face it, that's a big part of the ownership decision. 👍

    Great bike. Shout out to Monica! Her parts in the video add an extra flair. The shadow at 19:50 is brilliant. Always great choice of music. Your videos are very enjoyable to watch. Excellent point on 65 hp being enough and taking the bike to its limits on ‘real’ roads.

    Great video Freddie.
    I purchased Street Scrambler (Urban Grey) and this bike has been absolute beauty. I loved it at first sight when I entered the showroom.
    The power is perfect for our roads in mountains. The high torque makes it easy to ride. The bike is super nimble besides its weight.
    You're right it does get a day or 2 to get used to those high exhaust pipes but they don't burn leg. The back cover for pilion is also good and hasn't burnt anyone leg yet.
    The engine does get hot in traffic and exhaust also start sending heat too, but it is all manageable.
    This is for me the perfect retro bike. Looks great, feels great and runs smoothly.
    Edit- I am 5,6" and seat height is perfectly manageable for me. I can't flat foot both feet but the weight management is great so there's no problems at all with this.

    Dear Freddie. Enjoyed that video a lot since I own a 2017 version of the street scrambler! I ride this bike for 3 months now and I’m highly addicted, engine is balanced and the look is perfect. As you said, high exhaust is the main pain point, it’s not burning but it can be very hot and annoying in warm weather. In addition the bike is also warming very quickly during town commute, bike cooling is active and loud after 15/20min ride. I’ve also changed the seat to a triumph bench seat as the previous seat + luggage rack was highly unconfortable for passengers. Enjoy the ride ✌🏻

    • @FreddieDobbs

      Thanks very much for sharing your first hand experience Flo!🙂. I absolutely bang on agree with you- changing to a bench seat is the first thing I'd do- I can imaging it'd transform the bike!🖤

    I have a 2022 1200xe and the hot exhaust is something I actually like, it’s often cold in Canada even in the summer and I like feeling the warmth on my leg. If I were in your situation I’d probably skip the scrambler because of the pillion situation. I agree with your assessment about having 65hp. That’s probably the sweet spot for street riding, I see 120hp+ bikes on the road, and they’re in 1st or 2nd gear all day, it’s boring. Great vid as usual!

    • @FreddieDobbs
      @FreddieDobbs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ian! I'm already used to the high exhaust and now don't find it an issue at all👌👌
      Couldn't agree more re the 120hp+ bikes.
      I like the SS so much I think I'd make it work- especially with a bench seat I can imagine it'd transform it!

    Picked my Sandstorm up last month. I can't get off it!! Brilliant bike. The exhaust is fine, you can lay your hands on the guards whilst still hot and it's warm but won't burn.
    The engine is superb around town, and when you want to get a move on, it is quite quick, as you say on today's pot-holed roads. I have fitted the large, side bag on mine. The rack slightly spoils the look but you get a practical option for the bike. Which is what it's all about. Fun, practical and looks way cooler than most bikes that I have owned. Just working out what to do with my other bikes now as the Triumph "does it all". Great review :)

    That's a very good deal for a bike with those extras. You did forget to mention the other goodies that this has, that the standard doesn't. This not only has the pillion replacement tray, the dual front fender and the exclusive color... it also has a metal skid plate, a front headlight guard/screen and the fuel tank side pads. Very nice adds for this price.

    I just bought the 2022 street scrambler. Love it! In Virginia it gets hot in the summer so I use a pair of adventure style boots and they shield the exhaust. It gets hot especially in traffic. I also ordered a faring shield because it gets windy on the highway. Such a comfortable bike and really decent power even on the highway. I have a fast sport bike for long travel but this is a great second bike for the countryside, and yes it looks cool and that counts. 😎

      @nickg6974 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FreddieDobbs Yes I love the color as well! Obviously my first choice would have been the Sandstorm but my Triumph local pusher informed me that its been long sold out! Oh well...
      I would like to ask your opinion on my last and final doubt: is there a huge gap between the Street Scrambler and the Bonneville when it comes to riding 2 up? I understand that the Bonneville is the best chioce, but is the Scrambler far behind in this sense? I want to get a bike that allows me to bring my wife along as much as possible. I'm still going to be doing most of my riding alone, which is the reason why I will probably be going with the Scrambler in any case, but I'd like to get her involved more, so the last thing I wanna do is get a bike where the passenger doesn't enjoy the ride. Thank you!

    The triumph Scrambler has always been a good looking motorcycle. Like you, I really like the ‘urban grey’ - I think it’s called - just as I thought the white of previous years’ models looked very classy. I think it may have something to do with how these colours set off the painted tank logo 👍 Interesting side-by-side comparison, too - the TS isn’t necessarily bigger, but has more of a discernible bulk, in a good way - both look ace 👌

    Nice one Fredster. The 2021 Street Scrambler is a beautiful looking thing. A take on board your points re horse power and I agree this 900cc bike is perfect for short distance commuting and riding in city traffic. I am more of a fan of the xe1200 after test riding one out of Triumph Great Dunmow. Among other things I liked the high riding position. At 5ft 10 I had no issues with getting my feet flat . I might even consider one at some point and swap it out with my RnineT scrambler.

    I think it will be oke for a passenger to be on the back and with the exhaust specially with wearing some high boots. But i feel like its more a single person bike. For 2 up riding i feel like the T100/T120 is better and more comfort.

    I'm fairly new to your site and hence a bit late to this thread. I owned a Street Scrambler which I upgraded to a new Scrambler 1200xc last year. I must say that having owned and ridden both a for a reasonably distance, I'd say that, whilst the 1200 is better in several areas... mid range power, pillion space, LED lights etc... I'd still say that the 900 is a great bike, and much better value than the 1200. I also think the Street Scrambler is the better looking of the two. As far as heat coming off the bike from the high level exhaust. I didn't ever notice an issue with the Street Scrambler, but the 1200 can give off an uncomfortable amount of heat, especially in slow traffic on a hot day. If you want to take a pillion (which I do), then it would definitely be the 1200 but if not then I'd save the money and get the Street Scrambler.

    Hi Freddie, nice review as always. I start loving Triumph Motorcycles more and more ;-) And I like the street scrambler style a lot. But I have a ridiculous question, maybe you know it. I don´t like the upper front mud guard, so I would consider removing it and instead just use the lower guard. But the question is, do you know if you could flip this lower guard by 180° so the longer part of the cover is orientated to the front side? I think this would look much better.
    Greetings Norbert

    Looks great and ride a previous version which I would have bought if the dealer had been sensible on a PX price. I don’t think in answer to your pillion Q that those high pipes would be comfortable. Nice setting Freddie too. Good work 👍🏻

    Among all other things, I am surprised by how good it sounds.
    Manufacturers should all learn from Triumph: don't sell us bikes that sound more electric than a Livewire!
    Awesome review as usual.

    Great video bro! I'm very undecided about choosing this one ore the street scrambler. I'm 175cm and I'd like to bring a passenger with me. Really prefer the scrambler but I'm afraid it would be too tall for me and uncomfortable for the passenger..

    The Triumph is an outstanding bike brother. The best looking for me is mine 😁 Sprint ST 1050. The sandstorm edition is very nice but i feel Triumph is moving into everything costs extra market. Just my humble opinion and you know what they say about those.🤟

    Nice looking scrambler except for the high exhaust. How long were you riding before you felt the heat on your leg?
    The weather looks nice there. In Texas and generally the southern U.S. in the summer it regularly gets around a 100 degrees or over. I can't imagine riding such a nice scrambler for less than an hour from the heat off the pipes. Many bikes sell within the first yr of owning in the SOUTH when this is learned the hard way. But I agree a very nice looking scrambler.

    What a Good looking motorcycle. I like the sound of the exhaust, the clock looks good, the tank and petrol cap all very nice. It won't be as practical as your old one with a king and queen seat. The new bike's exhaust is too high and gets very hot. I think it's time for Monika to take her motorcycle test....?

    • @FreddieDobbs
      @FreddieDobbs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's very true- it really is a toss up between looks and cool-factor and practicality, because you definitely need to sacrifice some practicality for this bike!

    I went from a 2018 Street Scrambler to the Scrambler Steve McQueen edition a couple weeks ago. I loved my Street Scrambler, but I love my Steve McQueen more. The high pipes do get hot. After a long ride I had to move my leg out whilst waiting in traffic. I'm sure in the last few years they have increased the HP. I'm sure my 2018 was 55BPH. I'm a big guy (23st) and the Street was perfect up to 60mph. But overtaking at speed there sometimes just wasn't enough power. With the 1200 Scrambler no issues.

    • @FreddieDobbs
      @FreddieDobbs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh WOW! I've never seen the Steve McQueen 1200 special looks like the most special bike in the lineup (maybe alongside the Bud Ekins T120)😍

      The 1200s are in a different league power-wise!

    Hello from Texas - really appreciate the review. Freddie, do you (or anyone) have any suggestions for handguards for the Street Scrambler. Strangely, I simply cannot find any kit that does not require an odd assortment of parts, hacking, grinding, etc. for them to fit. Any thoughts would be helpful. Cheers.

    Thinking of getting a used one, not sure if I should wait in case RE make a scrambler off their 650 twin?
    Also, as I’m on A2, does anyone know if triumph’s a2 restrictor kit dulls the torque? Or just the maximum amount of throttle you can use

    Gorgeous bike! Jep. I´m also curious abut the exhaust. Some say it´s hot as f***, some say it is "manageable", what ever that means. Probably tolerable because the bike is beautiful. How´s the Euro 5 engine on the highway compared to earlier engines? Obviously the T120 has more oomph but how is it in comparison?
    Great vid. Keep up the good work!

    • @FreddieDobbs
      @FreddieDobbs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The exhaust does get noticeably hot, including when in traffic and putting your right leg on the ground, but it's manageable (probably because it's so beautiful!😆). The euro 5 seems fine and not a huge difference compared to the Euro 4 (maybe a little less grunt to the exhaust note!).
      The 1200 engines are much more powerful- it is a big difference!
      Appreciate it🙂

    Fred fashion help needed- just doing my CBT and only got limited budget for gear. Already got some stonewash hood jeans. What colour leather jacket should I get and what boots/ gloves. Want a classic look that suits a few occasions ….(also apparently if you de-cat it, it solves the heat issue)

    • @FreddieDobbs
      @FreddieDobbs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'd recommend a pair of brown boots like the TCX Blend or RST Roadster II boots in brown, and a brown or black jacket would go well with the jeans. Brown or black gloves would work very well- RST are super value for gloves!
      Check out Frank Thomas too- they have some very good value gear and some is surprisingly cool!
      I often buy second hand gear off ebay- you can get incredible bargains and save LOADS of money! I saw a pair of TCX X Blend boots one bay for £35 two weeks ago (for example)🙂

    Great video as always Freddie. Your reviews are second to none!! Love it. Nice bike but as with a lot of Triumphs these days I find them over-designed. Too much going on, if you let your eye scan over the bike its like there is design details being thrown at it which just ends up looking cluttered, confused and mildly jarring. Obviously looks are very very subjective! It's almost like they have a design team that is young and inexperienced and are trying too hard. Keeping things cleaner and simpler would work much better IMHO. Though these Street Scramblers do look nicer than the 1200 which are just a mess.
