I've always argued that the scrambler/bonneville is the jack of all trades bike. They'll cruise with zero issues, you can tackle corners because the suspension will handle it, the engine has enough torque that it feels fun without yeeting you into the sun, itll handle enough off road to get you to a camp site, commutes great and you can split with them easily. And its gorgeous.
I've been on a Scrambler 1200XC since June of this year, and have put just over 8,500 miles on it. For where I live in the hinterlands of southern California's Mojave desert, it's been ideal. One of the few purchases in my life that has presented ZERO buyer's remorse. It's been the first bike I've had in decades that leaves me grinning like a jackass eating cactus after each and every ride, no matter where I go. I anticipate a very long and happy relationship with my Triumph.
The complaint I've read the most about that bike is the very hot exhaust. As someone riding in the hinterlands of the Mojave desert, what is your take on it?
@@markheinig Yes, the exhaust gets pretty warm. However, it doesn't take but a few mph (or more) of forward movement to negate it. I've got some thermal header wrap that I was going to put on the pipes beneath the heat shields, but the summer ended before I could get around to it, if that gives you an idea of how urgent I felt the need was to get some relief from the radiant heat. Also, I've seen some videos about an aftermarket H-pipe that eliminates the catalytic converter, and is supposed to reduce the overall radiant heat coming off the exhaust by about 20 degrees, but I don't know if the nearly $400 price tag on the de-cat kit would be worth it to me.
I agree. I have the XE since I do a lot of off-road. I have already started looking at what parts I might need to replace (way) down the road in case parts are hard to get later. Planning to keep this as my main bike for a very, very long time.
@@cplegrand I looked hard at the XE as it's the up-optioned model of the two. I ultimately went with the XC for two reasons: I spend more time on asphalt than dirt (about an 80/20 split), and the XC I bought was a former press fleet bike (it was barely broken-in with just over 1800 miles on it), that was two-thirds of the MSRP and still came with a full factory warranty.
Back in 66 I was 11 yrs , couple of my older sisters friends came over one day. One rode a BSA and the other dude had a Triumph. Even thought Ive had and enjoyed all kinds and sizes of bikes . The classic British Twin look has always been my first image of what a bike should be and look like.
Bought this as my first bike back in June. Everything he said is true. I'm excited to be riding this thing for the next 30 years and have it be just as cool then.
I've got 2k miles on my street scrambler. It's my fourth bike(love it). The guy who got me into riding passed last month. He was my go to. I never got to show him my new bike. I appreciate videos like this that explain things to me like Derek did.

I still spend 5-10 minutes staring at it in awe after every ride 😂 can't see myself ever getting rid of it, it has so much character to it
Then thing I love about triumph is that they’re an actual quality product. You can tell they want it to be tactile and feel good, and they lean into their heritage. They just do it so much better than Harley, and pretty much anyone else.
ESBlofeld Yeah, they really do. I’ve seen quite a few Triumph reviews on TH-cam & almost every one is either good or glowing, especially when it comes to overall feel and the bike’s fit & finish. Triumph seems to be very aware of what niche the bikes are supposed to be filling. I’m personally a fan of the Thruxton, but I’d be more than happy with any model.
Just got this bike yesterday. It’s so nice. Awesome engine sound, super comfortable, great seating position. You feel classy riding it. Also it handles rough roads very nicely.
Around 10 minute mark my dealership guy call me from Raision Rinta-Jouppi Oy and said : Yes , everything is clear and done you are now owner of the Triumph Street Scrambler 900 year 2020 and exactly the same color like the bike in this video. IM IN HEAVEN !!
I've been riding my 2019 Street Scrambler nearly every day for the past year and I never get bored with it. I sometimes look at the Bobber black and recognize it's a beautiful motorcycle that I'd love to own one day, but my Street Scrambler will be my forever bike.
Man I hate that we sometimes feel the need to apologise over enjoying something as much as you were enjoying this ride on this bike because of idiots on the internet. It's great to live vicariously through someone having so much fun!
I was given one of these bike for few hours when my bike was in for a service (triumph street triple r 765 2021). It was so easy to ride, I loved it ,I could have sat on it all day so comfortable. Sounded great, really lowdown grunt 👍. Smoothest twin I’ve ever ridden. Made me think of changing. Only had my street a month
Easily the most confortable bike I've ever rode! The engine purs like velvet and the gear shifter feels like made of butter, a polite ask and it goes to the right gear by itself! That danm thing is just amazing!
I have this bike's cousin, a 2020 Bonneville T120 and it's the best thing I ever spent money on. It's brought endless joy this depressing year and the aftermarket is actually pretty robust!
I've got a bonnie and I love it, everything you're saying in this video spoke to me. I got mine after passing my test in the uk so was upgrading to 865cc 230kg bike from my little 125cc 130kg learner bike so it seemed like a big leap! But as soon as I'd been rolling for 10 mins on the bonnie I knew I'd made the right choice. He's solid, comfy, beautiful, well built and just downright charming. Love my bonnie 🌸
that sounds so fun (: I hate that the UK has restrictions, but I suppose it does help people learn and have discipline. From California, and got a V star 650 as my first bike a few months ago. But ive been looking at scramblers and bonnies for a while now. Hopefullt in a year or two (: be safe !
I’m so happy he recommends this bike, I love it so much and I’ve been wanting to get on the street for ever and this bike is just exactly what I like aesthetics wise but I never pulled the trigger because of it being a bigger cc but I think yams has eased that and I’m gonna go for it
Thanks Yammie for introducing this bike to me. Hearing you describe it as a beginner bike helped me include it in my initial set of choices but I just kept coming back to it time and time again. I just got the 2022 Street Scrambler in Urban Grey last week and this review video contributed a ton to my purchasing decision. I’ve watched this vid so many time!
I have a 2019 Street Scrambler as my second bike and I love it. Like you said, it’s so easy to ride and everything about it feels smooth and intuitive. Lots of fun to ride and a super well rounded bike. If you like how it sounds now, just wait until you put a new exhaust on it. I put the Vance and Hines 2:1 pipe on mine and it sounds amazing. Not huge but noticeable difference in performance after upgrading the exhaust too. The Zard exhaust is worth checking out as well.
I've been waiting FOR SO LONG for this video. But I need the papa Yammie opinion about it. Now I'm going to embrace my hipster side and get the street scrambler lmao. 27 min of Yammie talking about how much he loved the bike, i know i made the right choice
I love the look of this bike. Being a more experienced rider I really want the Scrambler 1200 XC. More power, better suspension, and lighter just sounds perfect for me. I currently have a street triple and honestly would trade it in for one.
I've got the Street Twin (No surprises with a name like street twin rider). It is a hell of a bike, the engine is so good, the torque... all of that good stuff! Build quality is great and PLENTY of customisation options.
I've got the same bike and feel the exact way about it: they really knocked it out of the park for those of us that want modern features (liquid cooled, great charging system, etc...) in a retro look. Plus... I take mine camping all the time and it's great for a fire road for the last few miles to get you to your camping spot.
Had one of these for 2 years, when they first came out in 2017. Sold it in 2019 for the 1200 Xe. But the Street scramblers are awesome bikes that will do everything. Took mine round europe twice fully loaded up it was brillaint, put 11k miles on that bike, loved it. the 1200 though!! wow.
I watched your videos of touring on the Street Scrambler and enjoyed them. I'm back to taking another look at that bike. The 1200, though, puts out way too much heat in the hot area where I live; otherwise, I would already have one.
How did you manage the panniers, did bags get warm? That high exhaust looks great but I keep thinking it must create problems to pillion and panniers...
"This is what a lot of people look for when they're thinking of getting a Harley Bike"... holy crap. YES. I went through a couple of Harleys ~18ish years ago, and I gave up on the "dream" - I couldn't get used to the pointless jittery-ness of their engines and the constant feeling that the bike was about to just rattle itself apart. I recently got one of my dream bikes - a Bonneville platform bike. This Speed Twin 900 (I wanted a Thruxton, but my back just can't anymore) is literally everything I wanted when I first went the Harley route. Incredibly beefy sounding, torquey as hell, solid handling despite the heavy weight, super cozy ergonomics, and the smoothest ride I've had in a while. If Harley took notes, and brought the same "modern classic" feel to their bikes - I'd gladly buy a Harley next. As it stands though... I'm probably gonna pick up a another Bonneville engine bike in the future, lol. This Scrambler 900 is definitely on the short list.
Great review. I was going to get the husqvarna Svartpilen 401 but after seeing this I think I will save up more money and get this as my first bike looks awesome.
I’ve got a 14’ 900 I threw on some bigger brakes with stainless lines, a full Zard exhaust with a Dyno package , and after some new pegs and levers I can still bomb the twistys north of 45, highly recommended a triumph scrambler to anyone they’re really fun bikes
I started on a Bonneville and do encourage those who are able to purchase and take care of one to give it a crack. They keep their value and are a lot of fun to ride.
I have the 2019 model. Love this bike. Great out here in SoCal. I seek out traffic for the satisfaction of splitting. Great in the cities, canyons, fire roads. Sounds fantastic. Will keep this bike for as very long time.
I feel like of anyone is surprised by this first impression has never watched anything involving a bonniville. Almost all of the reviews are like this. Quality and refinement show through. I think it would be interesting to compare this bike to the Kawasaki W800
I disagree. The subtle changes made to this machine to allow it for light off road travel have elevated the street riding experience. Potholes are no problem, the ergos are comfortable, and it's got a pleasant low end grunt.
@@daionusdrwg11 LOL ... no I actually go out and ride bikes .. I've ridden both of these and I've owned the Scrambler for 18 months .. In my opinion they ride very differently , much more so than you would expect considering they are built from the same base .
I'm sold on this bike, I"ve been looking for a second bike quite awhile and after watching this video it's nice that the riding experience matches its incredible beauty. Definitely one of the nicest bikes I've seen out there personally, I'm really glad to hear that it performs well. Also it makes an absolutely amazing sound too!
The feeling of this bike you talk about, where it makes you want to keep riding it, you should make a video about all the ones that do this the best. The best "feeling" motorcycles, ones that you don't even need to ride fast to enjoy. Thanks!
I have 13K on mine with two seasons owning a left over 2017 (Saved $1500.)...The fun never goes away on this one ..I wish it had a bigger tank and maybe better shocks .(I added a center stand ,heated grips and a wooden box pannier for rain and snow gear ..Oh and wider Tiger foot pegs for standing in the rougher stuff) .The gas range is about 160 miles ....I came over to this from a Yamaha 1700 and felt set free on the back roads I ride .I have a few 100K from the 60's 70's and mid 80's with a few decades raising a family and not riding ..I ride 10% highway 30 % gravel and dirt and 60% twisty back bumpy farm roads ... With a 29 inch inseam it is the best dirt road bike I could hold up :) .Everyone who tries this bike realizes there is a lot going on to love . It lets me do a lot of things I would not try on less stable platforms ...After my 61 R69s and 78 R80 this is the best bike I have ever owned ...
Advice for new triumph riders (Classic bikes) they are all good in their own aspects. They are very friendly and easy to ride bikes. Before buying one look for what you really want in a bike that suits your riding style.
I just got a Triumph Speed Twin 900(formerly known as Street Twin) same engine Transmission as this Street scrambler as my 1st motorcycle 🏍️. It is absolutely awesome, I am 45 years old, 5ft 8inches. This motorcycle has Great 👍🏽 Ergonomics to sit and drive High Torque which makes it FUN to drive Easy ❤ to handle Superb Sound better than the 1200 Best Looking If you want me to describe the motorcycle 🏍️ in 1 word EASY ❤
Really good review, I have a Ducati scrambler icon Dark and also the Bonneville street twin and its a really great bike easy to ride smooth power delivery and looks amazing. My Ducati is more fun to ride but the Bonneville oozes class.
IMO, the Bonneville is a great bike for someone who wants the mellow ethos and the timeless looks of a typical cruiser, but wants something with more pep and handling.
Enjoyed this type of first impression ride, and I like this motorcycle. It does all the fun things well, is everything (most people) need, nothing you don't. And it looks great. I'd like to see two discs in the front, but that's me.
I was lucky enough to buy one earlier this year replacing my tiger and it is a fantastic bike , so user friendly sometimes riding in the rush hour into Manchester to work and it handles it so well .
Bonnevilles are perfect starter bikes. Cheap insurance, not enough power to get in serious trouble due to weight but enough power to take on the highway daily, built well, usually attractive. More people should start on bonnevilles!
All bikes for the 21 century are good or they would not exist by now. My wife always wants to test drive cars before she buys. By the time you educate yourself on your next bike purchase, I typically do not need a test drive. Brakes are good, throttle good, led headlight, stability control and most important the stock OEM engine. Singles vibrate more, light weight, low maintenance. Twins a little less vibration and can rev more so more horsepower vs torque. Triples are similar to V4 with torque and high rev some vibration. Inline 4’s losing torque for high rpm horsepower, little vinyl. V4’s are like V8’s, sooo smooth(maybe too smooth) toque and high rpm horsepower. Then just a matter of body position you want. Dual Sports(Adventure bike), nakeds, sport bikes, heavy weight cruises, and off road bikes.
I breaks my heart when I see you Americanos waiting behind cars in traffic. Filtering is one of the major benefits of biking. Here in Scotland we don't go quite as mental as those californians doing 90 between cars doing 70, but we don't wait in stationary or slow moving traffic.
Here in Calif., only the mental ones split between cars at speed. We sane ones limit it to about 40 mph and where cars are still in parallel. A gap next to a car is an invitation for the car driver to suddenly shift over into the gap, so we sane ones avoid that scenario.
@@estellazhang3202 yeah , I personally don’t know of any state in the USA where it IS legal . But ... there’s valid reason for this, as the potential dangers are very much alive .
I own this bike as well, great and accurate review. It’s a jack of all trades, road trips, city bike, dirt roads.. everything and super confidence inpiring, i’m a better rider on it.
Hey yammie ! Think of the interceptor 650 as poor man’s Bonnie. I think the interceptor competes with 300cc-400c bikes (in terms of pricing). Give it a shot. You might not like it but you won’t hate it either.
Is this bike and the street twin good bikes for a newbie? I’ve never ridden a motorcycle but Im going take the MSF course, I would like to purchase an easy bike to learn on and I love how Triumphs look but there 900cc and I’m not sure if I should start with that even though this bike “easy” to learn on. Or should I start with a 400cc better then get a 900cc street twin/scrambler as my 2nd bike further down the road?

I watched all three of these videos to only now realize that the beginning of the video starts at my sisters old office complex. I was watching this one like "that looks familiar" and once you popped out and I saw the road I was like "oh shit!" I dropped my sister off on her first day there and would meet her for lunch some times. Now I just go to her house. Pre Covid-19... Good times.
These are great alternatives to the Tiger if you want a "Adv" type of ride without the "Adv" looks. Unless, of course, you need to put luggage on both sides.
So true what you said about thinking about getting a Harley. Got a Harley, then got a Speed Twin and damn poor Harley is collecting a little dust since then. 🥺🤫

Great bike, it was my second choice but I got my first BMW R9T . And it’s a different bike like your sled, even more sporty it’s a beast. But also comfortable and very unique plus the quality is better than both. But I would still love to buy this as a second bike. Maybe one day.

@@supertoyg it was fine not a single issue in regards to heat. Just had the lhs pannier and Kriega tail bags.
I'm dying to know what Spite thinks of this machine.
Simple ugly not a harley
I'm the proud owner of a 2022 Triumph Scrambler and I freaking love it.
I feel like of anyone is surprised by this first impression has never watched anything involving a bonniville. Almost all of the reviews are like this. Quality and refinement show through.
I think it would be interesting to compare this bike to the Kawasaki W800
Next beginner giveaway bike: triumph rocket 3
Beginner bike giveaway: Turbo Suicide Shift Harley Panhead 😂
This whole line of bikes is killer. I have a T100 and to cruise around town and commute, they're hard to beat. Triumph killed it.
"Never half-ass two things, whole ass one thing". To me this is a streetbike.
I disagree. The subtle changes made to this machine to allow it for light off road travel have elevated the street riding experience. Potholes are no problem, the ergos are comfortable, and it's got a pleasant low end grunt.
@@daionusdrwg11 With respect you couldn't be more wrong , it may seem that way but trust me its a very different riding experience to a Street Twin .
That's why its called a STREET Scrambler !
@@daionusdrwg11 LOL ... no I actually go out and ride bikes .. I've ridden both of these and I've owned the Scrambler for 18 months .. In my opinion they ride very differently , much more so than you would expect considering they are built from the same base .
It is a street bike, but you can take it on some light off-roading. It’s really fun to do with it as well.
8:07 Did we just catch Uncle Yam forgetting to cancel his signal?
Why yes, yes we did. Break out the tar and feathers!
The feeling of this bike you talk about, where it makes you want to keep riding it, you should make a video about all the ones that do this the best. The best "feeling" motorcycles, ones that you don't even need to ride fast to enjoy. Thanks!
Sadly I won't be able to watch it all right now but I'm stoked to know your opinions on MY bike!
This motorcycle has
Great 👍🏽 Ergonomics to sit and drive
High Torque which makes it FUN to drive
Easy ❤ to handle
Superb Sound better than the 1200

If you want me to describe the motorcycle 🏍️ in 1 word
EASY ❤
Only the Great Yam can say "I like this bike" for half an hour and keep people watching.
I love how he sounds like a kid on Christmas. This is 100% my dream bike.
Enjoyed this type of first impression ride, and I like this motorcycle. It does all the fun things well, is everything (most people) need, nothing you don't. And it looks great. I'd like to see two discs in the front, but that's me.
"We got a call for a raging simp?"
"Yes officer this man right here."
What’s a simp?
Oh good we get to see a Scambler go off road
This would make a nice bandit bike
You talked me into this bike. Just bought a 2020 last month ❤
I was lucky enough to buy one earlier this year replacing my tiger and it is a fantastic bike , so user friendly sometimes riding in the rush hour into Manchester to work and it handles it so well .
Glad that I’m not the only one who forgets to cancel their turn signal.
Best review of this bike I’ve seen yet ... I’m on my second triumph n looking for another n this most likely will be it..... great review 👍🏻
Bonnevilles are perfect starter bikes. Cheap insurance, not enough power to get in serious trouble due to weight but enough power to take on the highway daily, built well, usually attractive. More people should start on bonnevilles!
Triumph modern retro bikes are solid quality bikes. Better than a harley and a good value for your money bike. 🏍👌
I want that brake fluid reservoir sock
Finally! yammi has come back to Triumph!
Just bought one cant wait to pick it up from wales uk .
you only negative was a sort of positive for me great vid
It's not legal in Texas 🙈
If you ride like they do in Spain...we used to sit at the corner cafè and watch the accidents.
Here in Calif., only the mental ones split between cars at speed. We sane ones limit it to about 40 mph and where cars are still in parallel. A gap next to a car is an invitation for the car driver to suddenly shift over into the gap, so we sane ones avoid that scenario.
Trust me, I wish we could do this here. We're not logical in America. If something is just a bit scary, politicians fear to change the law
I have the 2019 in same color trim 🥰 God it's such a joy!
Forever bike, forsure 👌
Really funny that you mention the 70s CB350, my current bike is a 72 CL350 scrambler and I’m looking to get a Bonneville T100 now
Hey yammie !

9:45 "Follow the damn train, CJ"
I watched all three of these videos to only now realize that the beginning of the video starts at my sisters old office complex. I was watching this one like "that looks familiar" and once you popped out and I saw the road I was like "oh shit!" I dropped my sister off on her first day there and would meet her for lunch some times. Now I just go to her house. Pre Covid-19... Good times.
Helped pick this out for my dads first bike👍
Everyone buys an R6 but man I love the style of retro bikes. They look way better then super sports
These are great alternatives to the Tiger if you want a "Adv" type of ride without the "Adv" looks. Unless, of course, you need to put luggage on both sides.
We always come back to pure joy bikes. ...sometimes we keep them in the first place.
So true what you said about thinking about getting a Harley. Got a Harley, then got a Speed Twin and damn poor Harley is collecting a little dust since then. 🥺🤫
I would like the Bond Edition in my garage very much. Very cool machine. I would love to test ride one.
YAMMIE likes the triumph, colour us surprised.
I’m actually looking to get a triumph scrambler...happy I’m in that drawing :D
Moto-camping vlog on the scrambler would be dope 😎
Thanks for adding another bike for me to think about for my forever bike
If you put an exhaust on this just know it has a self learning/adjusting ECU. Multiple vids out showing how to do that
The Triumph Scrambler isn't the only thing from the UK equipped with a semi-knob..
Do a street twin next.
YammieNoob, what do you think and know so far about the Honda Rebel 1100? i don't have a license for driving motorbikes yet, but i think of getting it. i am also 6Ft2inch (1,90 cm)
17:58 Yammie Noob just found proof of bigfoot at the pedestrian cross
You’re gushing so hard over this bike, and so am I.
Triumph boy has spoken 🤣
Does the bike not have automatic turn signals
What bike has auto turn signals?
Considering the scrambler as a second bike next to my sporty. Very good looking bike 👌🏻😁
Hey man, found your channel recently and just realized you’re in Austin! That’s where I live too, any favorite route recommendations? I’m a new rider and heavily considering getting a 2017 street scrambler
The scramblers and bonnie's are bikes that do a ton of things very well!!
You should've got the xe my dude. It has more of the party motard character you love so very very much I saw some dude come top 5 in the baja round up with it!
Great bike, it was my second choice but I got my first BMW R9T . And it’s a different bike like your sled, even more sporty it’s a beast. But also comfortable and very unique plus the quality is better than both. But I would still love to buy this as a second bike. Maybe one day.
Dude I was considering a Scrambler and searched on YT for Triumph Scrambler and your video popped up. I'm sold, but I'm buying one second hand
PS: I was looking for a Sportster as I already own a Bonnie SE
Yammie, can you review the street twin ? It’s my favorite bike.

Hey !
I heard that you have a scrambler ducati. And I have to say, I am hesitating between the ducati and this triumph. As a first. Can you tell me you think is best as a first ? And the big difference you feel between them ? Tks.
This really is an amazing bike.
But also said, put me on any triumph and I will love the bike and the ride
