I'm not the biggest Zeppelin fan but that is without a doubt the absolute truth. John was truly a genius.
At the risk of starting an internet war (because people often get offended when discussing John Bonham), I must disagree. And I'm a fan of his and the band. I see people say he is the best, and then they say no one is close... As a drummer, myself, I'd like to think that, at the very least, my opinion holds a little weight and I'm not just talking out of my butt, as some will accuse me of for saying Bonham isn't the greatest rock drummer of all time.
I'm not exactly sure where I would rank him, though it would surely be in the top ten, maybe top five. I'll just say that the discussion for greatest rock drummer of all time, for me, begins and ends with Neil Peart, of Rush, and Danny Carey, of Tool. It's those two and then everyone else. I'm talking about speed, timing, style, everything. It's no disrespect to Bonham, or anyone's opinion. I just think the fame of Led Zeppelin often colors people's opinions in these types of discussions. Not that Rush and Tool aren't famous, but they aren't Led Zeppelin famous.
@@eddiestanford7308 Come on. Just watch or listen to songs like Moby Dick or Achilles Last Stand. That should show why people consider him a quintissential rock drummer, and how he changed the way that playing drums were possible. Your not gonna convince a lot of people that people were better then Bonham, because he is a huge factor for many drummers style of playing. But to be fair, your positioning of Neil Peart is close to where I would put him on my list. I would probably replace the contender instead of Danny Carey with someone like Keith Moon or Ginger Baker in my opinion.
The most amazing part of Bonzo’s drumming is that he was NOT double pedaling the base! He was just that damn good. THAT was why he was called”The Hammer of the Gods”. Greatest drummer that ever lived.
The day John Bonham passed away the whole school went into mourning. We never recovered from it along with his band mates who didn't even try to replace him. Seeing the pure joy on your face as you listen to a band of my youth brings the biggest smile to my face. ROCK ON!

You need to see "Moby Dick" live on MSG. This is John Bonhams' song to showcase his incredible talent as a drummer with a jaw-dropping drum solo. You really walked into this zeppelin rabbit hole blindly and with a real curiosity as to who Led Zeppelin is. Your reaction brings me back to the days when I couldn't wait for the album to come out. My brother and I used to go to the record store the same day it was released. Then we hurried home with such anticipation of what we were about to hear. As soon as we got home we would put that sucker on the turn table, take our seat in our bean bag chairs break out the bong then crank up the volume. Then we would be at awe over Jimmy's playing or Bonzos triplets. And always surprised how creative and on point Jonesy always was. . And Roberts ability to just feed off of Jimmy's riffs. With the smooth and unique sound that only he can do. Each song would be a new experience a different sound. It was like each song just blew you away all for different reasons. We would play each album over and over always hearing something that we missed the time before. Then you had to wait for a year or so until the next album was released. Only to do it all over again. You would hear a song and say that's my favorite, then you hear the next one then that's your favorite. Soon you can't pick what single song is your favorite because every song hits you in a different way and. They all become you favorite. The diversity and pure talent of each member is second to none. I have been listening to zeppelin for almost 50 years now. And they sound just as good today as they did when I bought Led Zeppelin 1 and had no idea what this record would sound like. The greatest most influential band in history. Timeless musical masterpieces
Idk if you've seen the show Freaks and Geeks, but there's an episode where he had just died and one of the characters was really hurting. I was the only one of my friends who at the time (16 year old millennial) had any idea who he was even talking about. Thanks mom for raising me on great music. ❤️

So true...the things people get butthurt over. I get it tho they think of some bands and singers as Legends as they are but I get what he's saying bout the influence cause that def happens.....hello! People like Axle listened to these bands and people so of course he was influenced by them. I see that in a lot of singers so it's no big deal actually it's a compliment to who they are 'taking' from...if that makes sense.
Absolutely. You’ll find that the bands of Led Zeppelin’s era were influenced by the great black blues men of the USA. Robert Plant was also influenced by traditional British folk songs. B.B. attributes his career revival to the British musical invasion.
It’s so beautiful to listen to Chick Webb and Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa and hear them in Bonham, and to hear Bonham in all the players he influenced, and to listen to Dave Weckl and realize he’s a law unto himself. :)
Jimmy Page is not only an amazing guitarist but also an amazing producer.

When drummer John Bonham died, so did the band. They were one, without one there was no Led Zeppelin. They suffered for their success but my god what a great library of music and in such a short time. When he died me and my buddies skipped school, smoked bud and listened to Zep all day in rock and roll mourning, lol.

There's a lot of great bands, and everything you grew up listening to is an influence in one way or another.
If you're serious about watching great drumming, you need to watch Moby Dick (live). Make sure it's the longer version. You'll see a master at work in John Bonham. You need to be serious about loving drums though because it's ONLY drums.

There's another reaction from a New Zealand Drum teacher who just found Bonzo and instantly became a fan. So sad that we have lost him, I was so lucky to see Led Zepp at Knebworth '79 one of Bonzo' s last concerts

Black Dog was what I was going to suggest too. John Bonham was a legend in the drums. So, was Ginger Baker and Keith Moon. If you like great history, the story about Keith Moon when he passed out while playing drums in concert is a great one. To quote Joe Walsh “The most terrifying thing that ever happened to me was that Keith Moon decided he liked me.”.

I love the way you break down a song in a reaction. I grew up in the '70s and '80s but I didn't appreciate this amazing band till I was in my twenties. I would love to see your reaction to the Kennedy center honors for led Zeppelin. One of my all-time favorite bands "Heart" does an amazing cover and honor to the song Stairway to Heaven.it takes a lot of courage to play one of the most memorable songs in history in front of one of the most memorable bands in history. The remaining members of the band were honored and in the audience. Also the late John Bonham's son Jason plays drums which makes it all that more special and emotional. At the end you can even see Robert Plant wipe a tear from his eye. Heart was heavily influenced by led Zeppelin. Check them out as well. One of the best female rockers ever is Ann Wilson and her sister Nancy.

With all respect, as I see you commenting all around the internet on Zeppelin reactions and you seem to be just as big of a Zeppelin fan and connoisseur as I am. Also, you are a patriot which I love. But I think Pages drug addiction really destroyed a lot of his live playing 1975 and later. A lot of it is hard for me to listen to as a guitar player whose single biggest influence is Page.

@@RetroSportsGamingNetwork2025 that’s why when I listen to Jimmy on his solo Outrigger album, or with Coverdale/Page or in the O2 concert, I am at the same time joyful and sad....because he had several “lost years” of great playing due to drugs when he should have been at his very peak. If you two are Zeppelin fans, then you ought to be on Soul Train Bro’s channel....most in-depth Zeppelin reactor on TH-cam. He’s done all the albums, all the official live concerts, the movie TSRTS and now into bootlegs and heading into their solo careers.

Perhaps a perfectionist as a producer but not a live player. That said he is still my all time favorite and i find his live playing more interesting than anybody.

This was actually video from a live performance in Australia with audio from, I believe, the LA Forum.......because there was no live footage of this song with audio available.
Yes, the video footage was from the Sydney Showgrounds. People started in the stands (as per agreement with the Showgrounds Trust), but as soon as the music started, fans rushed out onto the oval. No two-bit security guards were going to stop that.
I thought the audio was from a Canadian performance. Doesn't matter, the video was spliced wonderfully well into the audio track.

I like how you mentioned that Zeppelin took their sound very seriously. For me, that's one of the little things that makes them great. In all of their studio versions of their songs the mixing is on point. They do a lot of little things in some songs like with panning, having the vocals echo before the actual vocals, leaving in vocals from other takes in the background, and in their song "When the Levee Breaks" (another great song you should check out btw) they actually recorded the instruments at a faster tempo than the singer and slowed it down to match the singer and it makes it feel so heavy. Not trying to sway you to listening to the studio versions, I get why you like the live performances and I like watching them for the first time with you.

Yea there was some weird feedback on that about AXL ......YOU heard and described what YOU heard ,that is it and nothing more ..That s why it is called REACTION. You did not do a damn thing wrong .Viewers get a little weird about the performers they like .//////// Bonham never used a double kick set up.,,he only used a single kick but he made it sound like a double set... Bonhamn had the most unique pattern of kick to snare and high hat rhythm .He could do colossal rolls but but kick to snare and high hat with the way he tuned the drums for a bigger sound was his trademark...
Bonham's influence was the great Buddie Rich, and Gene Krupa, and Roach. Everyone is influenced by someone and it's kind of interesting to hear and identify the influence. So good job!

Zep's influence in Rock and heavy metal is immense. I usually don't sub to reactor channels but your treatment of Led Zeppelin is so appreciative I had to sub to your channel.

One of the secrets to Led Zep's sound and the certain "groove" they had was because of the way in many of the songs Bonham locks into the pocket of Jimmy's guitar riff rather than the bass line of JPJ.

One of my friends was seeing them in Baltimore in '73 when they blew the circuit breaker for the main PA system. He said that for the half-minute or so it took for someone to reset it, they were left with just the stage monitors, and it sounded like every garage band that ever tried to cover Zeppelin (done really well of course). They really are gods, but it's comforting to know that some of the secret is just raw amplification.
