She couldn't have been able to to sing it live at the Super Bowl because the Super Bowl didn't allow it. Now if you really want proof that she can actually sing it, then watch her Welcome Home Heroes concert. You're welcome
@@misterbee66 I think he meant that ever since the Milli Vanilli scandal people have demonized lip syncing of all types even when it’s clearly the singers voice Singers have always lipsynced (especially in live TV performances going all the way back to the 50s) but starting in the early 90s people started to look down on it. To me there’s a huge difference between a Milli Vanilli/JLo/C&C Music Factory type of lipsyncer (who isn’t even singing the songs) vs someone like Whitney who is clearly lip syncing to her own vocals and is capable of singing exactly like the recording if she wanted

It could be the weather, they may need vocal rest, sound systems & the engineers that run them aren’t always ideal, etc. It’s not that big of a deal.
Yes, she was singing but her mic was dead, not on, so no one actually heard her singing. The audience heard the prerecorded version, not her live vocals.
Whitney Houston she has the most powerful vocals cords at the Superbowl 1991 this proof that she sang the National anthem I was not aware that each live performance were lip syncing most of them get backlash.Whitney Houston she will be missed but her legacy still carry on.
It doesnt matter if she did or not..WHITNEY was a real live singer and had vocals. And she clearly sang the anthem just as flawless in her live HBO televised 'Welcome Home Heroes' 1991 concert 2 months after her Superbowl anthem performance !!
1) *Whitney recorded TSSB in 1 take.* Whitney had just done her screentest for *The Bodyguard* . She entered the studio, listened to the track once and recorded TSSB. 2) *Whitney sang along with the tape.* Whitney's mic was not on, but she did sing along live. That's why her emotions and performance is real! 3) *It was not Whitney's choice to use pre-recorded track.* Whitney would have done it completely live if she was given the chance. 4) *Whitney sang TSSB completely live at her Welcome Home Heroes Concert.* This performance was just as great and even more special because Whitney sang the first verse a capella.
I think what’s often left out of the conversation is how amazing her lip synching is. The fact that she was able to convince us it was live was amazing in of itself. Lip synching is an art form that she clearly had also mastered. And never mind the fact that the track we were listening to was done in one take in the studio! It was an amazing performance regardless.
She sang at live along with the track that’s why you get the emotions you got . People that stood in the front could have heard her live singing and then mentioned that they could have heard her live vocals loud and powerful
But… she did sing it though 🤔 its her voice. If she was live it would have sounded the same bc the pre recording was less than a week before the performance
You didn't mention she sung the song once on the track. That's amazing .... At least it's her voice. I don't see what's the big deal.. Alot celebrity used backing tracks to perform. Micheal Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Madonna ... Lip syncing should be an issue when it's not your voice.....
She did not want to lip-sync and she didn’t, she sang along the prerecorded track. Rickey Minors confirmed it, Robyn Crawford alluded to it and the video shows her sweating while the it was a cold day. Thank you.
Safety tape measure was common. Besides they said Whitney sang live to a dead microphone. Look at her mouth when she sings. Mama WAS singing. Just that they didn’t trust the microphone. The orchestra also “lipped” too for that matter.
It was a live performance either a band. There’s no lip syncing. Some days you’re on, and Whitney Houston was on that day. Just like I Will Always Love You sometimes she sings it live better than the recording. Whitney is like that.
It’s LITERALLY BEEN CONFIRMED. I love Whitney and this version but this isn’t a “conspiracy theory”, there were technical issues within the stadium regarding sound levels and sound systems weren’t as good back then so…to be safe…they PLAYED A PRERECORDED VERSION
Here’s some info from an old schooler, everything that was said after her death was true however it was also said by others that worked there after the performance and was reported in newspapers………..and was buried with the rose of internet…….this is a perfect example of how news reported in print has been lost with internet and how when someone comes out to speak on it as Ricky did it makes it seems like new info when in actuality anyone who remembers those days knows it was in newspapers/magazines. The only issue people had for all the people saying “who cares” was some remembered the truth and were attacked and called names like hater and liar because they were in disbelief that it was not live, great video ❤
People please! She sang along to the track because of the stadium and the air crafts flying over. But let's be honest, whether studio or live, who has done it better??
In actuality she did sing it live, to herself. What the public heard was the recorded version. Whitney being the purest she was, she wasn’t down with faking the funk. So what they did was kill her mic so that way she had she personal satisfaction of performing live which essentially she did. This was the policy of the NFL and still is to this day.
Addressing the title. Hell no Whitney did not lip sync. She had natural talent. Yes singers did lip sync back in the day and some did not but hands-down Whitney Houston did not lip-synch any of her music!
Should have watched the video…she absolutely did but it wasn’t bc she couldn’t do it live it was bc of concerns regarding the sound levels in the stadium, it was a technical issue
It’s simply not possible to perform TV studio quality vocals in the middle of a sports stadium - none of the Super Bowl Half-Time Show performances these days are done live, let alone with such powerful vocals as Whitney’s. As so many other people have said here, they’re HER vocals. From her vocal cords. Case closed. Especially now, we should consider ourselves lucky to have this memory to revisit.
Baby you guys need to look into these artists whose microphones 🎤 are auto tuned for their concerts. Back then in 1991, Whitney sang this performance pay attention to her throat. As a singer myself, you cannot lip sync and veins are protruding from your neck. She was in fact singing. Diehard Whitney fans know she was singing. So please stop trying to discredit an icon and a performance that NO ONE else can top.
Not sure why this is still disputed. She was lip syncing but singing live along to her own pitch corrected pre-recorded track. That was the vocal heard by the audience. Celine Dion did the same in Paris a few months ago.
Whitney was singing along with he track. Years ago, I read a comment from someone who was there and close enough to hear she sang just as good as the track.
This could be a very cool tradition, Instead of dead mic, actually record. So for every artist there’s 2 versions. The perfect one from the recording and the secret live one from the moment. We know Whitney and Jhud sounded great
What's the debate for again?!?!?!?!? Ricky Minor said it - they sing to their own track recorded earlier. It does not dispute the level of greatness of this rendition.
Why tf does it matter if she was lip syncing? Who is she lip syncing to? Marvin Gaye? It literally doesn’t matter and we would’ve never known if no one said anything because she was pretty damn good at lip syncing. And let’s not forget how Whitney recorded that ONE TIME and slayed it.
