As much as I love watching Martin in character, whether in a movie or a typical nighttime talk show where he's roasting everyone with his razor-sharp wit, I could listen to him tell stories like this for days. Absolutely adore him.

Martin Short is arguably the greatest comedic entertainer of the last 30+yrs - considering his abilities of timing, wit, risk, singing, dancing, imitating and the ability to play off whomever he's with - the best.

I think Martin Short is the most underrated and under-appreciated comic of our time. Any talk show he's on is so funny. And his Jiminy Glick character is super funny! I wish he would start doing TH-cam interviews with today's stars as Jiminy. I watch reruns over and over all the time and I laugh every time!

    • @juliro

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to witness this type of witty talent between these two. Two geniuses in their craft. Thank you Conan for your love and appreciation of comedy and just throwback to a time when it was work, passion, heartbreak, talent, and loyalty to the arts. You keep that close to your heart..it shows. Miss the Conan show, but glad you've made your mark in history as one of the best to ever do it. Thank you, kind sir. 🙏🏼👍🏼👊🏼
Btw, around 7yrs old or so, one of my first characters I would entertain my mom, brother, and lil sis after dinner in the living room was "I must say" (didn't know Ed's name at the time). I enjoyed my older brother not beating on me. Too busy with laughing. Felt pride in seeing my lil sis look up to me as something special. But most of all...loved seeing my mom - in that moment have no worries. No stress about bills and being a single mom. Just laughter filled our house those nights. So, thank you, Martin Short. You weird, weird man you. 😁

    • @blaineedwards8078

What is cool is the whole Irish dynamic. Consider that his father was from Crossmaglen, County Armagh in Northern Ireland... ground zero for the Troubles outside of Belfast and a heavily armed bastion of the IRA. The British Army called Armagh, "bandit country" and going into Crossmaglen like entering the territory of the Apaches. So being raised in that pressure cooker of violence and turmoil gave you a very tilted yet satirical and darkly comedic view of life just to carry on with daily existence. They have a saying in Ulster, "if you can't laugh at yourself, you can only cry at the world." I am sure much of that was passed on to young Martin who then took his father's take on life and incorporated it into his own comedic brilliance.

The funniest people ever are the ones who can make you laugh as a child and as an adult. I'm talking gut busting laughter. Martin Short is one of those people. And I've been rocking with Conan since SNL and The Simpsons and he's one of those guys as well. The best thing though...these guys are really good guys. That's what I admire the most.

Martin Short is the greatest comedic talent I've ever witnessed in my lifetime.
Mr. Short triumphs in every media with a wit, tempered with his off screen kindness, thst never fails to mesmerize me.
Of course, when Mr. Short is paired with the likes of Steve Martin his ability to play off wherever Steve would go just adds to his mystique.
Martin Short is a hero of mine.

I agree with Short about Canadian comedy. They are truly influenced by British humor. I grew up LOVING the Black Adder, Benny Hill, Faulty Towers, Monty Python, and SCTV had that similar nuttiness to it. There was one sketch called the Battle of the PBS Stars and it reminded me of Upper Class Twit of the Year. Good stuff.

He’s just freakin amazing. And the in-people know, no one else does. He’s AMAAAZING.

at 51:10 Martin does a character from On The Waterfront, that only says definitely. The actor that played that character was a famous boxer named Two Ton Tony Galento. A hell of a fighter that dropped one of the best boxers ever, Joe Louis. Louis almost beat him to death after the knockdown but it was Tony's best moment.

Its a testament to how funny and well liked Martin Short is that a video with him talking seriously can garner nearly 600,000 views. This in spite of the fact that he doesnt get promoted, have a big platform or get lots of media exposure.
