John Candy, " let's go and find her" 🤣🤣🤣
I could hear John Candy saying that. Man I miss John!
Which is funny in itself when you remember what a sweet, nice guy Candy was. He was leading the charge to kick Lucy's butt, lol.🤣
@carolynm8421 exactly what I was thinking he was such a nice guy
@@marcjugmohan oddly, I was just talking about him tonight. Not like I do that often so weird I see your comment. I just said, like a few hours ago, "He was such a nice guy and a great actor and comedian who died too soon." So weird.
I think Martin short should write a memoir about his experiences and he should call it “short stories”
That’s a brilliant idea! I second that!👏🏻
He has a memoir and it's both funny and moving. The moving part regards his relationship with Gilda Radner and his wife who died.
Don't Jump To Conclusions 😂
Named after your favorite part? ;
"Lucy! You scare me!" Marty Short you are quick and you are brilliant.
I literally laughed out loud at that part! 🤣
"You don't love this Lucy." 😂
A lot of people try to make Desi Arnaz the villain in her story, but it would not be easy to be married to Lucille Ball. Bottom line, they each had areas of brilliance the other didn't, with Arnaz much more of a people person.
He used the Lucy story in the movie Clifford.
I love John Candy! It was nice to hear his name.
Once of the greatest comedians, Martin Short is a beast when in comes to storytelling. In "Only Murders in the Building" too his stories were hilarious and fun.
I love Martin's impression of Lucy's voice by that time. Since she wrecked her vocal chords
Smoking
This makes me love her even more. 😂
I loved the impression of Martin Short doing Lucille Ball's cry.
An anecdote! Nobody does it better.
No star would be anything without the fans. We gave them their success and buy movie tickets.
I kept expecting the story to end with Lucy laughing and saying "No, I was just messing with you."
“And this is where the story gets really weak.” 🤣
Lucy has got some splainin’ to do!😂😂😂😂
Excellent!!!
It's unfortunate to find out a lot of these celebrities from the 1930s and 1940s were just real big jerks. Another one that constantly gets brought up for being a total dick is Jerry Lewis.
Marty Short is my favorite comedian
The way that Martin Short says "No" at 0:18 is hilarious!
I liked that too !
5:10 Glick. I hear Glick!
🤩
Sounds like the first documented Karen case.
I just wanted to soften the story had me rolling hahaa
There's an old saying that some people are reusing here which is "never meet your heroes" (or words to that effect). I would say, as long as you are prepared, if you have a chance to meet one of your heroes, I don't think I'd let this sort of thing stop me. And sometimes, they can totally live up to the expectations. I felt that way when I met William Hurt as well as Sissy Spacek!! Another would be John Travolta.
Martin Short channeling Ed Grimely at the very end.
Gimme a C.... a bouncy C🤣
Lucille Ball was nothing like her character on "I love Lucy". There are lots of stories about her being difficult!
🥃, 🚬.---- much talent tho.
Damn I was hoping it ended with Lucille copping to the fact that she recognized Martin and was fucking with him.
My favorite part is John Candy getting all worked up about it.
And his instant impression of John saying it.
Amen. I miss John Candy. RIP.
Yes!
Yeah. He seemed like a great guy
Right???!!! Oh I miss him so much!!!
Ive heard very bad things about how nasty Lucille Ball was toward people. But Martin Short I adore!
How odd! I met Lucille Ball when she was walking her dog with her assistant on the streets of San Francisco back in the late 70’s. She must have been in her 70s and she was absolutely delightful to me. Just wonderful. She signed an autograph took a picture with me. She kept calling me “dear”. It’s a favorite memory of mine.
Martin Short did an amazing job on Law & Order SVU as Sebastian Ballentine. He was very convincing and creepy. He's a very versatile actor. Clearly he's great at comedy, but he also plays a very disturbing villain.
My grandmother used to babysit Lucille Ball in Jamestown NY. I thought wow! She said she was a brat.
Lucille Ball was born in 1911...When was your grandmother born????????????????
You must be in your 70s or 80s yourself to have a grandmother that used to babysit Lucille Ball as she babysat Lucille Ball then this must’ve been the late 1910s early 1920s
@@johnfd0210Again, a stupid remark. Is this just how you roll?
My father was born in 1913. My grandmother could have been Lucy's babysitter, too. But she didn't live anywhere near Jamestown.
I was born when my dad was in his forties. I was a toddler when his mother died. My oldest brothers and sisters could have heard stories like that. Some if them are still alive and in their 70's. I am 60-ish.
I knew a flight attendent who flew with Lucy. She said Lucy was hateful to everyone around her including the crew.
John Candy reacted like a true friend.
With misogyny? A true friend doesn't support his friend's sexist lies.
@@biegebythesea6775 John Candy's reaction would have been the same if Short's argument had been with Bob Hope, John Kennedy or Mike Tyson. Because that's how male friendship works, pure and simple. As to the sexist lies, we were not there, so we don't know what really happened.
You wrote in another comment that men were "stupid pigs". Call it mansplaining if it gives you any solace, but I would suggest that you work on your perspective. So called misogyny doesn't explain each and every action of men.
@@vincentmutel7313 Yeh it changes nothing I said. You're a man, you don't hit women. Full stop. A man vs a man is a fair fight. A massive lug of a man vs a woman? absolutely NOT OKAY. No h wouldn't have done it to Mike Tyson and Martin would definitely not have disrespected Mike. He wouldn't have done it to any man. 'We were not there' yet everyone in the comments has made an assumption that she was the problem and so I will make my own assumption too (I hope you're telling them they weren't there. oh you're not? funny that). Yes misogyny explains it very well. He wouldn't have had the audacity to behave like that towards a man. That's all you need to know.
@@biegebythesea6775 "I hope you're telling them they weren't there. Oh you're not? Funny that."
That is where I stopped reading.
As long as you insist on doing both the asking and the answering, what's the point of sending me a response? You're obviously not interested in what I may have to say. So I'll leave you to your sad, bitter, bitchy, whining, self-pitying and irrational hatred towards half of mankind, while I enjoy the company of both men and women I respect equally. Have fun spreading your misery anywhere else.
Hey Luuucccyyy
As Richard Burton said; "I loath Lucy."
And …. I … loathe … Richard Burton.
And Richard knew Lucy and you never knew Richard. So your opinion means much less. Almost nothing, really.
@@jld593 Weird...multiple personal accounts in this comment section, validating the "theory" that Lucille Ball was a generally unpleasant person to be around...
But including a credible celebrity quote, is a step too far??
The quote that I found, attributed to Burton...
"She is a monster of staggering charmlessness and monumental lack of humour."
Lucy loved the money but hated her fans
The idea of John Candy getting really mad and wanting to find Lucy to beat her up(?) is just hilarious.
Candy was thinking about going "Uncle Buck" on Lucy. "You have been outshining Rudolph's nose for ages! Call a pressure washer and wash out the hideous color off your head! Good day to you, madam."
@@lewistasso8866 😆🤣😂
Imagine the headlines if that came to pass.... "America's Sweetheart, Lucille Ball, assaulted by Canadians in New York."
No the idea of a gigantic man wanting to beat up a woman isn't funny at all
@@biegebythesea6775 Don't be a Karen.
I believed this story right up to the end! Amazing comedy!
Martin short, John candy and bill Murray at dinner in the eighties
I know ! That would be Absolutely amazing !
That's the story I really want to hear
Ah, to have only been sitting at a table within easy earshot of those three that night.
As long as they were there, I'd have ordered a second meal, or even a third, if that meant I could stick around.
There’s a bar joke in there somewhere
@@lakemichigan6598 if Rick moranis and Dan akroyd were around too.... encroyable
Marty's story about bette Davis on Carson was so funny i thoughts it couldn't be true. The i saw it on TH-cam and it was spot on the same as Marty's story. Now I believe everything he says.
"Now the story gets really weak" lol
Only person who could say "Now the story gets really weak..." and that have it end with him Billy Murray and John Candy having dinner together and plotting an attack on Lucile Ball.
Plugging the Spiderwick Chronicles at the end of this clip is the cherry on top of this clip.
I wanted to soften the story...I LOVE LUCY!🤣
What a FANTASTIC STORY... Now that's COMEDY 😜👍🏻
I've heard she was an absolute nightmare on the set. Her daughter on the other hand, is a sweetheart
My friend played guitar for her daughter and I can attest that Lucie Arnaz is a sweet and professional woman.
@@peterzang Yes, I saw her beautiful personality come through when shewas interviewed by an Australian Morning TV show
5:10 😂
Lucie, her daughter, said in many interviews that the real Lucy was not what you saw on television.
Martin short was on that talk show with Hoda and Kathy Lee and they talked about his wife, not even knowing she had died. They did no research and he didnt say anything
My favourite Martin Short memory is from his SCTV days. They used to do their own "commercials" and in one, he plays a businessman proudly demonstrating his "shower in a briefcase". Hysterical!
I’d forgotten about that one! 😂😂😂 Thanks for the reminder!🤣🤣🤣
I'd forgotten that too!!! I was like, 12 years old and on the floor laughing!
@@TheOriginalFILIBUSTA Honourable mention has to go to Catherine O'Hara. Brilliant in whatever she does. Do you remember "Homelier You"? I'd love to have seen Andrea Martin's face when they told her which part she'd be playing.
th-cam.com/video/eTHvF2aAi50/w-d-xo.html
Omg I remember that.. 😂
It was probably just turbulence, and Lucy thought it was Martin Short kicking her chair
Bob Newhart was another gem, passed away recently. Younger generations just don’t have these guys so funny & natural.
He told a story of he and Barbara Walters sitting next to each other and a bunch of A Listers and he suggested just for fun, let's guess how much each of these people are worth, she's like alright, he says " let's start with you first" 😂😂
Lucille Ball was not on this planet to act the way you would have liked her to act. There is only ONE minority: #TheIndividual
I heard that Lucy was rude to her fans too
You know it was bad if John Candy got mad
Now i know jiminy glicks deep voice was a Lucille ball impression
😄💖
Imagine how miserable she had to be... Money doesn't buy happiness. It just allows you to be miserable in beautiful places.
Loved it when he played “Fronk” in Father of the Bride with Steve Martin 😊
Great story,thanks
Martin Short is probably one of thr actors I can remember as far as my toddler years. Always a legend.
couldnt you just say you didnt?
Here's what some of Lucille Balls peers had to say about her"
“She is one of the rare big stars I was sorry I ever met.”-Liz Smith.
“She is a monster of staggering charmlessness and monumental lack of humour. . . “-Richard Burton.
“In four days she reduced my life expectancy by ten years. . . “ -Jack Benny.
"She has been boiled hard from her hatred of me."-Desi Arnaz.
"And they say I'm a bitch!"-Joan Crawford.
It would appear that she was not the person that she portrayed herself to be when in the light of the public.
Her daughter said she was not funny but very serious. People entwine characters with the real person. They can't seem to separate the two. I had a relative who worked in Hollywood way back in the day, and he said there was more bed hopping, affairs, drugs and booze then there ever was in modern Hollywood. The only difference was they did everything back then in designer gowns and without social media.
@@51Saffron Well said. I used to have a series of books where many of the rich and famous were "critiqued" using reports from various sources. Some very very well loved personalities but behind the scenes they were hardly nice at all. Michael Landon was a real prize. He abandoned his wife and children for another woman and left them in such a financial state that other friends were leaving them CARE packages so they could eat. When you hear the story from Hanna Barberra about Walt Disney and how he tried to steal their ideas and keep them out of the animation business Disney does not come out in a favourable light. There were many more in these books just like them. Wealthy, greedy, and hungry for more at anyone else's expense. There were also some incredibly generous folks so I guess in the end it balances out.
@@oh8wingman Plus, Walt was a Nazi sympathizer. That alone puts him in a bad light.
I also read that John Wayne was banging Lucy back in the I love Lucy days
@@oh8wingman Yeah Michael Landon always seemed to be preaching " family values " in his shows but dumped his longtime wife and his boatload of children he had with her for a newer model
In an interview, Lucy’s daughter said the same thing. She more diplomatic…but she said her dad was a sweetheart…and her mother was tough as nails.
You can see this was waayy before Covid! Funny story.
richard branson's brother martin short built courttv & recorded the fake beatles records as phil spector
“This is not the Lucy I knew” 😂
She was nuts. We all know she was evil.
Stewardess friend from Northwest back then said Lucy was banned from that airline, and a couple of others she knew of. The original no fly list, Suspect One. These stories about her doing that are everywhere.
She didn't have to board first just because she could. She could have boarded last.
My father worked for TWA at JFK. I recall she was banned from flying them.
Maybe alcohol contributed to her nasty disposition.
John Candy’s contribution 🤣🤣👍🏽
Why don't planes have cctv cameras.
They weigh 1 ounce
3:09 The "BERRY" was probably Lucy's husband, comedian "GARY" Morton.
Marty’s comedic mind is so quick.
Lucy was a bit obnoxious but I bet when she died that she was unaware that her greatest contribution to show business was that she greenlit (and paid for) Star Trek. A billion dollar franchise and cultural phenomenon that will outlast all of I Love Lucy. No Lucy, no James T. Kirk.
Star Trek will not outlast I Love Lucy. I Love Lucy is STILL being watched 70 + years later, and was the blueprint for sitcoms almost 80 years later. There would be no Star Trek if there was no I Love Lucy. I Love Lucy is WAAAAAAY more important to television.
We all love lucy that character the actress not so much
You don't even know her. No do I, but I've heard plenty of stories where people said she was nice, lovely, and professional. But people tend to run with bad stories.
It is well known now that Lucy was NOT a nice person. She was tough and overbearing and probably very sad inside.
2 things we all should know.
Martin Short is kinda annoying, but brilliant.
Lucille wouldn’t take shot from anyone.
Great story.
Rumor at TWA when I worked as a flight attendant that Lucy was banned from travel because she slapped a flight attendant for speaking to her.
that sounds completely made up. That she "slapped" a flight attendant for simply speaking to her. Sounds like a lie.
I'd definitely buy tickets for any production that was billed as "E.T. meets Harry Connick".
It would have been epic if John Candy, Bill Murray and Martin Short hunted down and confronted Lucille Ball.
Probably Gary
Martin Short does the smoothest insults ever.
"Now the story gets really weak" 😂
A comedy legend talking about a comedy legend...
The Bill Murray comment hits differently now.
Martin short is a rare gem of a storyteller.
Yes, you could say it's a Short story!
Padum pump> lol good one
Didn’t he have an incident with Katherine Hepburn at a play or something? He spoke to her and then she asked to have her seat moved ?
Martin Short is a comedic icon and legend. He just can’t stop…EVER!
I'm watching him on YT until murder only in the building season 2 comes out😝
Until only murders in the building I'd only seen him on law and order svu and had no idea he was this funny. I've been binging on his stuff, and he reminds me of a hyperactive puppy.
