  • 150 inches x 50 inches x 50 inches. 10,000 lb capacity. 50T spindle. Those are some of the reasons shops making big parts will invest in a Haas VS-3. And that's the same reason we're installing our newest generation of this behemoth in our own machine shop. To work production on some of our own machine castings.
    Watch as Orville and Eugene install, level, and align this latest addition to our machine shop.

    I install machines every now and again for a competitor and the remote camera for leveling is mind blowing.

      Wait'll you hear about the bluetooth levels that send you the measurement directly to your phone.

    I like how the machine goes through the same preparation for delivery when it is built at and delivered to the same address.

    Would absolutely love to see an on depth tutorial video from Haas on how level a machine like that. So impressive!

    Thank you for finally updating the enclosure!
    It was a hell of a lot better than the original, but I was never happy with the little stuff I got wrong in that design.

    I know how long it takes to scrape the 78 lbs of blue grease off of a vf2. I feel bad for poor orville having to scrape all of that off of this.

      @@DdgeluvinHic It just takes one reaming over rust spots on way covers to get you to make absolutely certain it'll never happen again. Used to service and install Okumas, let's just say there was some very liberal use of LPS.

      @@orangedream267 oh I’m well aware of that man. I do apps and service on Haas, Makino, Citizen, Miyano, and Hwacheon. I’d rather deal with a customer who’s exasperated over the liberal use of rust inhibitor instead of them being pissed because their brand new equipment is rusty.

    • @jasongreenawalt2632
      @jasongreenawalt2632 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s when it was on the parts that are painted or stainless is when I felt that guy maybe went a bit overboard. That said, I’d still rather have that than have rust on a brand new machine.

    • @orangedream267
      @orangedream267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jasongreenawalt2632 Ah, that's the bit though. Some flavors of stainless aren't really stainless. They'll still rust, especially if you let water sit on them for a while. Most way covers are made from a stainless that has a bit of iron in them. Best way to check (without a lab) is to slap a magnet to them real quick.

    Awesome video thanks for showing the details of setting up such a large machine. I am a HAAS mill customer/owner, love the mini mill and mini mill 2. Both great machines, run a lot of prototype parts on them. The probe is a must have. Thanks again

    You should use MEAX from Acoem to adjust alignment . It is laser measurement system down to micrometer.

    I really wonder how long it takes to realign the two castings after they've been bolted back together

    • @orangedream267
      @orangedream267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, ideally you bolt them together before you align them in the first place. You rely on the foot pads to shift the casting around to get it trammed, and leveled.

    • @themechanix393
      @themechanix393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@orangedream267 ah thanks. Still wondering how they align the angle of rotation around the z axis. Because i think that you'd need to shift one of the two beds to do that

    • @orangedream267
      @orangedream267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@themechanix393 Generally, that's fixed to the machine column. And done on the manufacturing side of things. If your spindle is canted off in any way on your z axis, it's pretty damn bad.
      But I don't think that's what you were asking about. In which case, like I said before, those foot pads will get that spindle (z axis) square to the table. Squaring up the table to the x&y, I imagine the table has bit of rotation you can use to tweak in the last little bit.

    • @themechanix393
      @themechanix393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@orangedream267 the latter was what I was asking for! It just seemed so difficult to align the big z-casting with the xy one on the customers floor instead of the factory floor.

    • @orangedream267
      @orangedream267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@themechanix393 You can see them squaring up the x and y axes at 9:20ish. Or at least checking them. On this sort of style, you can't really adjust the relationship easily, but you'd tweak it by sticking shims where the two castings meet. Y is on the columnside casting, x is table side.
      As far as ease. Depends on the customer. Customer takes care of their floors/ gets proper foundations laid? Easy peasy. Customer skimps on a foundation for a 10m bed with 30m x travel MCR-B? God help them. And you better prepare for a reaming (undeservedly so) nothing this side of the English channel has seen, as it's totally the company that sold you the machine's fault for you cocking up your foundation.

      Simranjeet Singh, The VF series mills do indeed have VPS templates similar to the TL series lathes. They of course control probing and feature programming for mill style parts instead of turning jobs.

    Getting a new machine is great ,having them train you is not so great. Our trainer sucked even broke our probe,havent seen him since to get training on our umc 750. Had it for 3 years and still only able to run 3 axis jobs.

    • @pcsmachineworks
      @pcsmachineworks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If your making 3 axis parts then nothing is stopping you from making 5 axis parts, even simple indexing work. Sounds like you guys figured out how to run the machine and don't need any training, just need a better programmer. Thats like saying you don't know how to drive your car because the dealership didn't show you how to steer it.
