  • "You Don't See It" is my poetic response to the questions, "What is it like to have Asperger Syndrome" or more broadly, "what is it like to be autistic". I have never thought of being an Aspie as being "broken" or "flawed", but just...different instead. I live a different life and reality than most people on this planet, and I have come to accept this. Asperger's/autism are nothing to be ashamed of, and in fact, can bring very positive gifts. In my case, Asperger's (along with I believe, the Divine) is partially responsible for my poetic gift.
I have performed this poem twice on camera before, but this is the first live performance in front of an audience. This poem also appears in my chapbook, Novena (remixed). This was performed at Rock the 'Ville in at Java Central in Westerville, Ohio on August 10, 2013.

Of course it's not a disease. That's not just an opinion, it's literally a fact.
