    At 59 I ride 2 strokes have since the 70s and when in my youth racing it was all about how to use the front brake, off jumps you can blip the throttle to raise the front end or snap the front brake to drop it, use it in corners etc you just had to learn the limit to not wash out. Nowadays I just trail and desert ride, I'm not pining the throttle all the time and I don't worry about a piston job until the compression gets down to 150 or slightly below . It's suprising how long a top end will last if your not wot all the time. Great video's and at 45 your still a youngster, for my 60th I will be ordering a 2024 YZ250X.
    Happy riding, age is in the mind 🙂

      Right on! For sure the pistons can last for a long time when riden easy. The wife put like 65 hours on her YZ125 piston some time back. I had no clue it had that many hours on it, just lost track. But it was still up and running well. Never rode in the desert, but maybe one day!

    Great vid per usual. They keep making these bikes taller and taller. At 5'8" my 2020 YZ 125 is a beast to try and touch the ground with MX boots on. Now they raised it again. I put a lowering link and upped the spring rate to make it more fun to ride and I'm still trying to put a toe down or gotta lean hard to put a foot down. At 53 years old it's just about getting out there to have some fun. I would love to hear any insight you may have on lowering YZs but you may not have had short people problems with bikes getting taller and taller. Didn't really want to shave the seat or loose inches of travel either. It is what it is.

    • @UpAllNight91
      @UpAllNight91  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. On a YZ125. I have been able to safely lower them without messing up the suspension but lowering the front end (raising the forks in the clamps) to the 8mm mark and then set the rider sag on the lower end like maybe 105mm rider sag. It also helps on the 125 to run lower bars like the renthal twinwall 999 bend. at 5.8 that should make it just barely low enough. I'm 5.9 myself and the wife is 5.7. This has worked well for us.

    2001 was the first year of the 250f. I ended up with a 2002 250f in late 2001 I think. At that time no one was really riding a 4 stroke and it was the topic of discussion anytime I was at a track. When four strokes first started showing up people didn’t really know how to maintain them. Before that a high performance off road motor was like a Honda 400ex or Yamaha raptor or even the XR and DRZs. So I changed my oil religiously since it held so little but didn’t think about valve clearance I mean I’m sure it says in the manual to check valves on a Honda 400ex but how often did that ever happen. You never heard of valve problems on the previous versions of four strokes. Fast forward a bit dropped a valve engine blew with all kinds of damage. I think the total parts cost was around 3k and since they were so new it was hard to come by parts. And that’s how I learned the importance of checking valve clearance.
    Sadly after dropping 3k for parts and months waiting for them it got stolen 2 months after I got back together. 😢.

    • @UpAllNight91
      @UpAllNight91  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh bummer on it getting stolen. I had two bikes stolen together one time but they came back a couple month later. Heart breaking. So you where that one and only guy I would see and hear on a 4 stroke in 2002! LoL. I remember seeing and hearing someone ride a yz400 in 1998. It was strange and at the time I didn't think it would ever gain momentum. But here we are today!

    Big upside on a 2 stroke is the "fun" factor. The power delivery along with a sound that is just music make it a more dynamic experience. The only real downside to a 2t is the cost of race gas. I am a believer that without running some Race Gas you are playing russian roulette on a 2t.

      @@eastcoastlife3547Heres how I stored my YZ450F before I sold it. I wasnt riding it very much and it would sit for months at a time. I would make sure it had enough gas in the tank to fully cover the fuel pump, which is about a half tank or more. This keeps the pump wet which is needed to keep it from corroding. I would leave all the gas in the fuel lines and such because they are sealed off and it also keeps the injector good and freed up. The fuel doesn't hurt anything til it starts to either age very old or starts drying up. So leaving at least a half tank of gas in her is a good thing. Then every two months or before the next ride I would sip the older fuel out of the tank, pour fresh fuel in, start her up let her warm up and shes good to go. Basically the fuel is good to sit in the bike for up to 2 months with no problems. However if its older than 3 to 4 weeks its best to replace it before riding, as the octane does lower quickly when sitting in a vented plastic gas tank. Use the old gas in a old car or lawn mower lol
