    I think it was Nick Mason of the Floyd who told his mum "when I grow up I want to be a drummer". She replied " you can't do both". Trivia fact , there is only one person who played on every album and in every show Pink Floyd made and every show they performed..............Nick Mason again! He is such an underrated musician. Thanks for the demo. Nice kit.

    I love the snare and toms on this thing. The toms sound really natural and don't shotgun that much at all. It's pretty cool. With reverb that is

    I had a dd5 which had 4 pads and 2 pedals, a dd10 which had 8 hand played pads and 2 pedals, and now I have a dd12. Unfortunately my right shoulder won’t let me play it, which is a shame after I bought those drum samples you reviewed las year.

    Thanks so much for this. I’ve had one of these in the closet since probably 2014. Barely touched it. But you have inspired me. I’m guessing you use a snare stand?

    Can this Yamaha drum kit be used with the drum kits in GarageBand, Cubasis, Rock DM, or any other iOS music apps that have drums? I would really want to get the Yamaha DD75 that is out now. Cheers

    • @vampiremaffia
      @vampiremaffia 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has midi in/out so yes. You just have to make sure that the midi out note of the DD-65 for a particular instrument matches the note that your computer drum module or program expects for the same instrument (kick, snare, open hi hat etc.) usually this is not hard to configure and often you can customize drumkits very easily. I assume you have a MIDI interface or a 'soundcard' that has MIDI i/o. By using the Yamaha DD-65 (merely) as an input device you are not dependent on its slightly outdated sounds because you generate the 'fresh sounds' in your DAW triggered by midi from the DD-65. Working with any (midi enabled) hardware drum kit is often more fun than clicking with your mouse or hammering away at your midi keyboard. Nowadays you have the merry middle ground of finger drumming made possible with devices like KORG padKONTROL, Novation Launchpad Pro and Ableton Push (1+2).
      Plan B is to feed MIDI notes into your Yamaha DD-65 from your computer DAW or iPad, in this case you treat the DD-65 as a sound module 'rompler' this kind of defeats the whole purpose of the DD-65 but it would be a viable option if you are in love with the sounds from the DD-65 and not all pads are working any longer (or some other strange scenario like this).
      Plan C is to use the audio from the Yamaha DD-65 in your music apps through the headphone out of the Yamaha DD-65 and one of the line-ins of your 'soundcard' .

    I am getting this shipped to me and coming next week or so, but the one thing I cannot tell from the manual or pics is the headphone jack. Is it a 3.5mm like on most mp3 players and cel phones, or is 1/4 inch? Just want to prepare in case I need an adapter.

    Hey I just purchased this drum set second hand. I am a 100% novice and looking for the right direction to start, besides just randomly tapping pads with the sticks until I figure it out lol. Does anyone know of, or maybe can make, a demo of how to learn how to play drums with this?

    • @RadioBass
      @RadioBass 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      chaka paul i had a pad set years ago. All i did was drum along to well known tunes till i got it spot on. It takes time, but its great fun learning. The first tune i drummed out was Blue Monday. Start with an easy one and work up untill you are confident enough to play it as a lead to backing tracks.

  • @ron-manke
    @ron-manke 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The audio seems reversed. The left side pads are coming out of the right speaker and vice versa. I assume that's not the way the drum sounds are being output? Or is that for performance reasons?

  • @paulusc.718
    @paulusc.718 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good and clear explanation and review! Does it als work with brushes or is there a sound of brushes...?

    • @TheSoundTestRoom
      @TheSoundTestRoom  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could play it with brushes but it won’t sound like brushes, I’m not sure if there is a brush kit in there, I’ll check next time I have plugged in.
      You can download the manual from Yamaha for free and there is a kit list there

    I'm new to digital drums and have a question. If you barely tap one of the drums, is it softer, or are all the drum sounds the same volume? I know you have a volume on the set, but I'm talking about dynamics when you play a piece. Hope you'll get back to me because I'm about to bid on one. Thanks.

    Do you have to connect to an amp/external speakers or use headphones or are there built in speakers? It looks like there are speakers but want to check before buying. Thanks all.

  • @MrAlexxxDee
    @MrAlexxxDee 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the review! Very informative!
    Wha tabout custom kits? You can somehow upload any external sounds (EZ, addictive drums) into the module, or just can mix built-in sounds from 50 kits?
    And when connecting to the PC, should you have zero-latency soundcard to play comfortably or regular would do ok?
    I'm considering buying one for myself for gigging, seems like a quality piece, but i'm concerned about the sound.

    • @TheSoundTestRoom
      @TheSoundTestRoom  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alexxx Dee It has three kits you can set up for yourself using any of the sounds from the 50 factory kits, it does have Midi in and out so you can get it to trigger EZ Drummer, Addictive etc etc but you can't load other sounds in, as far as sound cards go you should OK with an ordinary one as long as your using ASIO4ALL
