  • In this video I will discuss the specific reason as to why most players struggle to lean the shaft forward at impact and share a very effective drill that you can do to help develop this position correctly.

    This ia a tremendous drill if you have an open clubface. I have never heard of a teach suggesting the right wrist be in extension. I applied this teaching and had the best day ball striking in many months. Ball flight was strong and lower. I'm a scratch player and I'm excited to get with Jonathan for a private video lesson. Well done.

    Your videos are outstanding. I love the clear easy explanatation on what to do and why, and what people do when they’re doing it wrong. So many videos are vaguely and confuse the mind with swing “tricks”. They also drag out for 15 plus minutes. Subscribed!

    Brilliant. Every video of yours is another piece of the puzzle and you communicate ideas in a way that is easy to understand and integrate. I've watched many other TH-cam tutorials/channels and I keep coming back to yours, as my swing and shots actually improve after integrating the concepts. You'll be hearing from me for an "analysis + live chat". 👍

    Great lesson content. The part on not what to do helps a lot. Different camera views for the same movement were helpful.
    To improve the learning process I hope you can do a full swing overview that would help us tie in your individual lessons. I find there is a lot of piecemeal advice out there and its difficult to incorporate into our full swing. I find sometimes learners like me dont have the complementary body pivot or the arms/hands movment to execute the lesson correctly.
    With your teaching style & content, I think you will help a lot of people.
    Subbed with thanks
    *edit* found your downswing 3 part series - thats the overview Im talking about. Wonderful stuff!

    I'll have to try this. I don't flip the club head forward before impact like you show but I have struggled to get the forward shaft lean and I look like my left shoulder is smashing into a wall trying to get it.

    nice tips! any videos on keeping the club butt pointing towards the body on the follow through? my club butt has a tendency ejecting out at the 1 o'clock position, causing my lead arm to chicken wing, after hitting the ball.

    This is what I have struggled with my whole golfing life. I've gotten as low as a +2 hdcp, but I never have had much consistency with my iron distances. I can't wait to get to the range and practice this drill! Keep up the good work, and thanks!

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you were a +2 hdcp im sure it wasn't too bad! XD. It is always something small with high level players haha. Let me know what you think!

      Alright coach, we're on to something. Went to the range yesterday and practiced the drill. That nice, crisp "crack" sound came back, so thanks for that. However, several shots were just a dead pull. I tend to get careless with my ball position, so that'll be the focus of the next session. Thanks for the tip, and keep up the good work!

      Good explanation of one of the key aspects of the flying wedge wilth this drill. The evolution of this is then performing the same concept while maintaining a more “cocked” angle in the right wrist through impact until the shaft is almost parallel to the ground. The only way to perform this maneuver successfully maintaining the angle is to transfer most of the mass over the lead leg in the downswing then thrust the hips forward tucking them under (feels towards the ball) while tilting the torso back to center to offset the force forward. It’s a mouthful but if u try it you will maintain the angle in the wrist, achieve forward shaft lean and the body will continue to rotate all the way open never stalling. The stalling of rotation another key factor which makes it impossible to maintain the wrist angle through impact.

    I can keep the position on short shoots when you go to a full swing the wrist will break more going to the top how can I keep that position at impact without
    releasing to soon where my problem is.

    A neutral to weak grip will promote casting/flip etc. A stronger grip will promote lag/ forward shaft lean at impact naturally.

    An observation. I have noticed something in your videos when executing the takeaway. You point out the club face is pointed slightly toward the ground at the waist high position. The degree is subjective. What I noticed, in your swing and that of other professionals, is the degree of downward tilt of the club face coincides with the leading edge of the club face being parallel to the golfer's spine bend/tilt. I have not been able to determine if that is true, or not, for the follow through at the waist high position. What do you think about that?

  • @michaelcervoni2427
    @michaelcervoni2427 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How about when you are hitting the driver? Same approach at the beginning of the swing and extend your hands at impact?

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the Driver the shaft wont be leaning very far forward at impact because the intention is no longer to hit down on the ball. Changes in set up and slight differences in the swing cause this to happen

    Jonathan - So I think that I have too much of a weight shift forward which is causing too much shaft lean...i.e. de-lofting of my clubs. My wedges at some points are flying way too low. Any suggestions?

    • @JKMGolf
      @JKMGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you really are shifting too much to the left a nd have too much shaft lean then try and feel a bit of the opposite to where your weight is more on the trail side and shaft is more straight up and down. However, without seeing your swing I cant be sure if this advice is specific to you or if something else may be the issue. Be sure to use visual feedback.

    Could you use this as a preset position for the driver

  • @zhuangliu5734
    @zhuangliu5734 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do feel the impact is more solid by doing this, however, when I did this, the ball flies very low, is it because the loft angles reduced when lean the shaft forward?

    • @waynehung228
      @waynehung228 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. You should get better distance overall if the angle is optimal.

    right arm should not be extended at impact, this is why you get strains in the joints and elbows............. come on young sir this is basic stuff...............
