    I am heated for the first time this year, set it up just coming out of winter, so had no problems with feeding, but I have had everything going in terms of parasites & bacteria, fluke twice, costia, and mouth rot problems, seem to be treating for something all summer, the heat however has help healing much quicker, and I think I am on top of it now, like you I have started using vercon tabs if I see any red mark appearing, been lucky with a couple of Koi, their mouths have cleared up well, but one I think will always have a deformed mouth, hey ho, this hobby keeps us on our toes, best wishes, Tony😀 PS Andy, did I say, great video😀

      Hiya, glad your enjoying the videos.😉👍 I have considered the heating roue but cant justify the costs. I suppose if you look at the costs of the treatments Vs the cost of heating them maybe but if your saying you've had to pay for both then It sets me back a little while longer to make that jump to heated...🤔🤔👍

    Hi Andy
    I’ve fortunately had no problems with Parasites, my Platinum Ogon who’s now 20 years old has an ulcer and my Kin Matsuba had a scale dislodged , anti-BAC’s both with a clean up and a swab treatment of Malachite direct on the wound , this has helped clear up the ulcer and the new scale is just developing .
    Pond temp is at 13 degrees , wish it would warm up though

    Hi mate hopefully you're all sorted now and luckily for me no parasites at the moment but I'm still getting swings in the nitrite and nitrate but nothing major this time 🤞

    The weather is so shocking let’s hope we get some sun soon . I had started to feed growth food my temperature is about 15 + and I’ve continued to keep them on it as they are eating well

    It is unusual that the parasite problem is still prevalent. In Japan, it is usually not a problem once summer is in full swing. Ideally you would contain the parasites before that happens, but at the moment isn't the only way to encourage koi activity other than keeping the water temperature above 25 degrees?

    • @andreashessler838

      @@atsuminaoki9910 that's usually the case here as well, but the weather in the UK this summer has been even more unpredictable than usual.
      We are still getting days where it's 13/14c and 20/21c the next day.
      This fluctuation causes the fish stress and allows parasites to get a foothold.
      If it's either constantly cool or constantly warm, the fish cope better.

      If only we could maintain those type of temperatures in the UK without spending a fortune on a heating unit..

      @@KoiPondLifestyle If it is to be unheated, it must be more rigorous than in Japan. Once pre-sterilised and acclimatised, KOI should not be moved or added until the autumn harvest period. Subsequent additions in mud ponds are contraindicated. If you follow this practice, stay with a fixed group of members until autumn.

    My pond is currently sat at around 13-14 degrees. The overnight temperatures don’t help matters as it’s still regularly dropping into single figures overnight (I work nights and you can most definitely feel the chill when it does!).

    I'm sort of new to koi keeping. Can I do vircon treatment on a regular basis as a preventative for bacterial?

    • @KoiPondLifestyle
      @KoiPondLifestyle  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hoya and welcome to the Hobby of Pond keeping... You can dose regular (I think around every couple of months) but I personally would dose unless I felt there was a need..😉👍 Hope that helps...

    not having a lot of luck atm are you 😒. Hope you get it sorted asap. My pond is 15 -16c. No issues this season..SO FAR. Got my nitrite back to zero...and using the VIRKON every month...and you have a bit of sunshine. Been absolutely crap in M7.

      The weather is so annoying at the moment. Temps up and down, parasites and little feeding.. Not the best of seasons so far...🤨☹

  • @reece2479

    Always found this the worst parasite to find unless I scrape the gills. Seems really resistant at the moment as well 🤦‍♂️ must say the last couple of years have been awful for me in terms of the amount of times I’ve had to treat for parasites. Temps are killing me being unheated as well I’m at 16 and for this time of year that’s crazy! Definitely gonna look in to heating for next year as to grow anything well from tosai is near impossible being so cold!

    • @ces69
      @ces69 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Will cost a fortune, why don’t you setup a quarantine/grow on tank which you can heat?
      Being a much smaller quantity of water it will be much less expensive to heat and will also protect the fish currently in your pond as you can quarantine any new purchases before introducing them to your pond!

    • @KoiPondLifestyle
      @KoiPondLifestyle  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good point...

      @@KoiPondLifestyle It’s what I did after yet another problem after purchasing new Koi!
      Now, no fish enter my pond without first going into quarantine and a course of FMG!
      If all ok after 8-12 weeks they then go int the main pond!
      It also allows me to pick up end of season bargains and overwinter them at 15-20 degree , before adding to the pond in the spring!

    Hi Andy, another great video, really enjoy your uploads!
    Would love to see a scrape and microscope vid. To be honest, it’s something I don’t do, I know I should. Would be good to know how to do it at home! Cheers 👍🏻

      I don't scrape unless it's absolutely a last resort. I just think it stresses them out more and does no good.
      I've got my go-to treatments for fluke and parasites and just stick with those whilst making sure parameters are good.

    Dont use what you have used before in the pond parasites will become used to it my go to Parakill thats warm my ponds at 12.6 and its getting colder I think acriflaine is better for the koi health. Lots of koi treatments are a danger for Tench.

    Unreal fella, I have had the same troubles..... Had costia last month. Treated twice with M Green & Formalin. Then the other day I found Chilo! Have treated with Acriflavine and Salt (I don't like formalin twice a year is enough for me)...... Anyhow best of luck mate keep us posted.

    Hi Alan, always love you videos but not so good with the parasite problems, hopefully things are looking better and feeding is improving. Things in my pond are as they were fish feeding well but still on the low protein foods as the weather and temp's are not good. So far I've been lucky NO issues 🤞🤞. The only thing that bothers me slightly is that i bought 5 new babies only 2 Inch in early spring and I'm really hoping they put on enough size to make it through the winter. Stay well and pray for a good warm spell soon 🌞🌞. When you said you were giving them some brown bread have you ever tried putting manuka honey on the bread fish love it and it has antibacterial properties that are higher than normal honey. Gwen 🧓
