Great video Andy 👍 When I use KMA, it takes less than 24 hours to clear in my pond and through the Nexus, so I tend to double dose it. Hope you're well. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Hi Andy I use the Golumbo water test kit as it has tests for ammonia/ nitrite/ nitrate & phosphate I test for all of them weekly. To reduce the phosphate I use columbo phosphate remover. I have no problems with blanket weed or algi hope this helps
Hi Andy, I use the API Phosphate test kit to test for Phosphate in my pond as there’s phosphate in our tap water. If you look at plant food it has phosphates in it so it’s no wonder it can cause algae issues in a pond. Once my plants start to grow the nitrate & phosphates vanish as they use them all up (especially the lilies!). The problem I find is the start of spring when we get the sunnier days and the algae starts to grow but the plants haven’t started to grow yet and there’s nothing else to use up the nitrate/phosphate in the pond, and this the blanket weed starts 🤦🏻♂️ Dan
All the best for the new year and next koi season , Andy . On the subject of blanket weed , hopefully one bonus of the lack of sunlight , this year has meant it`s been less of a problem . That said , I`ve had success , this year , using Aqua source Resolve , but then following it up with regular treatments of a sludge remover . This stops the horrible black slime which forms on the walls and floor , as the BW dies off . I`ve been using it on a little and often basis and havn`t had any weed or black slime for almost a year , now .
Hi Andy. I have been struggling with Fines myself. I have a 4500ltr pond, and what i found very Helpful was some fine filter mesh in my swimskim. I took out the blue pad, and put a small amount of fine filter mesh in the basket, weighted down with some small stones. the reason for this is so the skim still can draw water if the filter mesh blocks. but your skim in in the perfect spot for checking. i change mine every two weeks. i run it for 6/8 hour during the nite. Take care man hope this helps. Noel
Hiya, thanks for sharing your experience using the fine filter mesh. I'm still using the filter floss which seems to pick up a great amount of fines and is very cheap to use and just throw away after..😉👍
Thank you for all your hard work this year. We look forward to next year's information in the light of the dynamism of the KOI itself, which we hope will be comparable to the contributions of the Japanese enthusiasts! The main source of our reports is always what has happened to the KOI itself.
Enjoyed this catch up on how the year went for you 👍. Your temps are still managing to stay a little higher than mine I'm at 5c and not moving either way much at all. I have just lost my old goldfish 28 years old but all the koi seem ok still coming up for a swim about from time to time each day. Happy new year to you and the family and looking forward to spring and more from you on the channel. Gwen 🧓
Hi Andy, I think if used correctly cloverleaf blanket weed, it will do what ever you need. Give Steve a shout at peng, you’ve gotta leave it in the pond and not flush out👍🏻
I'd be curious what you (and people on here) would say about a somewhat interesting opportunity/situation I've got. A neighbour bought a house and found a pond that's WAY too small for the koi that're in it. They're pleased for me to have the fish, but I'm thinking since their immune system is likely depressed in the cold and they won't appreciate going into an even smaller quarantine tank, to leave it until the water temperature's around 13-14C?
Hiya, If you have a quarantine tank to separate their fish from yours I would wait until Spring when the temps come up so as not stress the fish with moving them. In the mean time you could pay some visits to see the fish to get an idea what your taking on and also what to do with them after the quarantine time..🤔😉👍
covers still off..and will stay off till we go away. I will put them on but only as a precaution. Skimmer still running. Im very lucky/pleased that I didn't have any issues in 2024. No parasites or blanketweed. No idea if it helped but I always do a double PP one week apart as soon as the water is over 10c in the spring. That is a lot of crap in the filter floss. No feeding here. I'm not sure what I would do if the water temp got above 9c for a few days. Do I feed for a short time or not ? Happy new year. Looking forward to many more school days in 2025.
In the wise words of Mr Hadfield……”there ain’t no tric to keeping koi, more of a fluke, but one things for sure it’s gonna costia!”. Great video Andy, hope 2025 is a better year for ya 🤞
Hiya, yeah, OJ started sitting by the window a couplen of seasons ago. He swaps sides sometimes and swims down to the bottom then back. No idea why at the moment. Still hand feeds and still active. 🤞 it's jot anything drastic..
What a year mate hopefully it won't be as bad next year and the patent is currently pending 🫙😂 and if you want the other graham I'm sure we can come up with a fair price😂😂😂 just don't tell him and happy new year mate. 🎉
I don’t know why you put all that junk in your water. You guys in the UK sure seem to over worry about having the absolute perfect water lol you baby the fish too much and they lose their natural ability to fight off bacteria and stuff. The only thing i use in my pond is dechlorinator and a little beneficial bacteria each weekly water change and they are beautiful and healthy. Don’t sweat the small stuff dude.✌️❤️
@@m_lockwood-tj9kv 100% brother!! No extra chemicals or non needed fancy marketing bullcrap in my water. personally I believe all that extra stuff actually does harm to the fish, that’s why I rarely even use the beneficial bacteria anymore. The ecosystem takes care of itself if properly maintained. I keep the pond clean. That’s all. Pretty easy. The fish love it.🤙

Happy New year Andy great update on pond and products looking forward to the warm weather and start fighting them parasites 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍
Bloomin Parasites.. 🤞🤞 they give us a break this year, if we believe in miracles..😊👍

Hiya, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences. I'll have to look into a test kit I think..😉👍

@KoiPondLifestyle yeah same. I have it in my bakki shower. But for additional, why not whilst skimming.
I do use filter floss in my floating skimmer which lasts around 3 days before it needs changing..😉👍

Great video. Your humor that you seem to add to your videos is refreshing. Hopefully 2025 is a better koi pond year.
Thanks for that feedback ..😉👍
I love listening to you , you are so honest, thanks you for your help in 2024 .
Thanks for that... Glad your enjoying the videos...😉👍
Hi Andy, why don't you get your bi-carb from your local supermarket. You can pick it up a lot cheaper than in koi shops for the same product.
Good point. I'll price some up against what I get it from Blue Bay aquatics..😉👍

Absolutely
Andy,I’m sure you have noticed your orange fish is always in the same position near the window, any idea why?
Hiya, yeah, OJ started sitting by the window a couplen of seasons ago. He swaps sides sometimes and swims down to the bottom then back. No idea why at the moment. Still hand feeds and still active. 🤞 it's jot anything drastic..
Why don't you get a drum filter that's half your pond probs.
Hiya, I looked into a drum filter. Seemed too expensive and too many moving parts to go wrong..🤔🤔
Check koi whisperers set up it's amazing.
@kevinallison2856 He's got loads of money..
The difference between science and messing around is writing it down.

@ yw bud, by the way beautiful fish man! I love the Doitsu! 😎
Not all of us dump loads of product in our ponds, had mine for 25 years with plants, the fish look after themselves .

@@KoiPondLifestyle if you did as little as i do you won’t have much to put on utube .
Why don’t you do what i do and just drain your pond as low as possible and manually clean it by hand? No biggie dude
