I would love to test my chlorine but there is no cheap test kits. The strips ( if you believe the reviews ) are useless. Can you send the Kactoily to me for a few days please . Another interesting vide. School day every day. Shorter colder days will make the water clearer.
Hello Andy how are you getting on with the Kactoily pool monitor? I have acquired a Kactoily 7 in 1 pool monitor I have found that the graphs on the Tuya app are unreliable because it zeros out and gives inaccurate readings are you having the same concerns? Keep up the good work Michael
Hiya, Ive not experienced those issues with mine. I am comparing 2 units against each other at the moment and find only a 0.1 difference between them so far. Have you sent Kactoily a message on their website to see if they can assist?🤔👍
Your videos are so interesting. It’s really great how you go in depth on products. Love it!! I did get a Kactoily water monitor after having watched you review it, so thank you for that.
So I’ve been watching you videos for a while now your fish are gorgeous to see all round smashing TH-cam videos but I see that your pond is in direct sunlight with no roof it’s going to create algae and weed surely I’ve got a roof on mine and is always clear just a thought all the best
Hiya, I did look into a roof over the pond but couldn't afford at the time, so went with the large brolly when the suns out. You are right that a roof would benefit the reduction of sunlight getting to the pond and reducing algae and blanket weed.. Maybe if some spare cash come available one day..🤔😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle totally understandable didn’t mean any offence by it just I have a roof over mine and have no problems with blanket weed or algae of any kind in mine that’s all I’m also looking into a sky pond as seen on yours really like it 👍
hi Andy, your videos are as usual spot on.Its interesting on everything you talk about. I'm always waiting to see what you do in your next video. I think we KOI keepers seem to be after the best possible outcome for our ponds and are always striving to treat with all these different products out there to that end. As you know having seen my pond I did at the time of your visit have clarity and fish issues and you gave me some really good advice which I took on board. Now all is good with everything and thanks for that. A little something for your thoughts ... I very rarely do anything with the water, occasional test here and there but generally I leave the pond to its own doing so to speak. Just my thinking, do you think that sometimes we get over caring ??? Since that day of your visit my water/fish have been really good. (hope I haven't tempted fate) Thanks Bernie P.S do you think I,m doing the right thing.??? Cheers Andy
We've used one of those blanket weed treatments that dont cloud your water and it didn't work (it might have been aquasource) , we've also used Colombo Algisin nit only did that do nothing but we could tell the fish didn't like it and they stopped eating for a few days (some even flashed) so i would avoid that and all types of Algisin if im being honest. The only thing that works for us is the kusuri powder gold and even then one treatment leaves a little furry coating on the walls but after a second treatment 2 weeks later its like hot wax strips smoooth 👌 and wont come back for at least 6 months. All i can do is give my experience dealing with blanket weed, we all deal with it in different ways but if you haven't tried kusuri powder gold i beg you to do so 🙏
Thanks for that feedback and experiences you've shared with us. There seems to be so many different projects that people are recommending or not to use.. seems like a bit of a mine field at the moment..🤔🤔😊
Hi Andy. I’m led to believe using the DPD tablets and their usefulness depends on the tablet number as it shows the chlorine parts-per-million, and is therefore only useful if the correct tablet is used for the correct application. DPD No.4 tablets indicate the presence of chlorine at which it can be problematic for Koi (above 0.02mg/L, when tested in 10ml of water, when a prominent pink. A slight tint will indicate a trace, but the obvious pink indicates a dangerous level for pond application. They are quite an inexpensive way of quickly and frequently keeping an eye on the chlorine level, especially when you can get a pack of 100 for under 15 quid!
Hi Andy, Free Chlorine is Chlorine that isn't bonded with Ammonia to create Chloramines, so if it's only measuring Free Chlorine then it isn't telling you whether or not there is still Chlorine present in the water in the form of Chloramines, which only a Total Chlorine tester will tell you, ie the Hanna pocket meter that you borrowed. If you tested your tap water for Ammonia with a digital tester and it comes back positive, then your water supply contains Chloramines. Failing that check your water report and see if AMMONIA is mentioned anywhere.
@@KoiPondLifestyle Hey Andy! Free chlorine and ammonia do not have a direct relationship, but they can react under certain conditions to form chloramine. Chloramine is a type of combined chlorine, which is a product of the reaction between ammonia and free chlorine. *Free chlorine* refers to the active form of chlorine in water, typically used as a disinfectant, such as hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and hypochlorite ions (OCl-). It effectively kills bacteria and other harmful microorganisms. **Ammonia**, on the other hand, is often found in water, especially in water containing organic matter or from pollution sources. When free chlorine reacts with ammonia in water, *chloramine* is formed, which is a weaker disinfectant. In water treatment, chloramine is also used for disinfection, but it is not as effective as free chlorine. *Total chlorine* refers to the sum of free chlorine and combined chlorine (chloramine). Therefore, the relationship between total chlorine and ammonia is that when ammonia is present in the water, part of the free chlorine will convert into chloramine, affecting the total chlorine value. Specifically, the higher the concentration of ammonia in the water, the more chloramine is produced, which in turn impacts the total chlorine level.
Hi Andy, very interesting would never of thought of testing rain water for ammonia but blimey what an interesting and quite worrying result. Pond is looking better now keep the videos coming although things are slowing down now it's always good to hear from you. Gwen 🧓

Good to see you Andy You are becoming the nations koi pond "scientific water analysing body " 😊 Glad all is well with you and the pond oh and Bear.
Do I have a new title then.. 😊😊 Thanks for that.. Hope you are all well..😉👍

Hiya, thanks for that feedback.. Every day is a school day..😉👍
Have you tried zeolite in a sack in the votrex? Like the shop you visited ages ago who had massiv sacks of it. In the koi shop....?
Hiya, really Good point. I've never tried that, so might see if I can hold of some from somewhere..🤔😊👍

@Kactoily Wow, thanks for that great explanation for us. Every day is certainly a school day... 😉😊👍
Orange is the new Black
It sure looks that way..😉👍
Pretty sure goldfish get black on them when ammonia is present.
watch out for my review of a new German chlorine filter in a few weeks.
Looking forward to that..😉👍
Don’t top up to your filter Andy as if there is too much chlorine it’s not going to do your beneficial bacteria any good
Hiya, I have the trickle in directly above the outlet of the filter so majority is taken straight out to the pond..😉👍
Could you put the sensor in the filter , instead of it bobbing around in the pond ?
Great minds think alike.. Its in there now..😉👍
chloromine is worse than chlorine in the pond, apparently it does not dissipate it just builds up ????

Hiya, thanks for that. Yeah ammonia in the rain water.. Going to keep one eye on that then.. glad your enjoying the videos..😊😉👍
