Hi Andy ,shame kactoilly doesn't measure total chlorine ,free chlorine measurement is fine in a pool or spa ,but in a koi pond you need to measure total chlorine ,so unfortunately this part of the kactoily test is useless to us koi keepers.
Some years ago I finally gave up covering the pond. No matter what I did, the winter storms would flip off the polycarbonate sheeting. I have had the pond get cold enough for a thin covering of ice, but winters are rarely that cold in the London area. I have yet to lose a fish to winter.
I’ve wondered about the beneficial bacteria application myself. I’m glad you mentioned that. I’ve been putting it into my moving bed filter too. It’s gonna end up there at some point anyway, right… I guess I need to try chucking it into the pond itself then. It’s so cool that you pay attention to even the smallest of details. 😊
Hi Andy, I’ve used PSB Bactoplus for a couple of years now and yes you are supposed to put directly into your pond but it does no harm to put into the filters either.
Hi Andy, You mentioned about doing something different for your covers, How about fitting some of the radiator shielding to them? The same stuff as you have in your filter house? I myself are looking at getting an ASHP in the next few weeks and then will be fitting some of the reflective radiator stuff my self.
Hiya, that seems to be the general feeling from comments so far that it gets to light eventually, but what about when it's sat on a self in a shop for months without natural light. Are you buying a tub of dead bacteria..🤔🤔😊
I’ve had major water quality issues since last winter with countless blanket weed blooms and water clarity issues (suspended muck). I was recommended the PSB when I went to my local koi dealer, they infact persuaded me to put back the much more expensive products I’d put in the trolley and try the PSB. I dosed the pond for 5 days directly into the pond, then the last tiny bit I had left went into the filter. My pond has been crystal clear since with no blanket weed issues and I can leave my MultiBay without cleaning for up to 2 weeks now (that’s as comfortable as I am with the brushes), whereas it’s been daily since January this year. You mention pond covers, but when do you turn off your UV? This is my first season. Thanks for the videos, they’re so helpful!
Hiya, Thanks for sharing that feedback and experience of using PSB. Very Interesting.. My UV light is tuned off as soon as the covers go on for winter. I cant justify keeping the UV on wasting 55w of power until the covers come off again in spring next year..😉👍
Nice video pal, I will be trying it in the pond myself now as you seen on my video. Like you say always learning mate. Great video nice editing touches too 👍🏻 I know the time it takes to produce such content. Appreciate the update fella 💪🏻
Hiya, after seeing the comment in your video as well I thought I'd put the question out there to see if the viewer knew something we didn't. Thanks for commenting and yes the editing takes longer than the filming as you will be very aware of, but I enjoy watching the content going out for our viewers to watch and interact with.. Also appreciate your editing skills and camera angles you create with some great picture quality.. could you remind me if the camera you use to get the quality shots..🤔😉👍👌
@KoiPondLifestyle nikon z30 with wide angle lens. I have been giving the bacteria some thought. When it's delivered to a distributor, it's in a none clear box in the back of a dark lorry. Then again in a box to us if we order online in a dark van. I guess the bacteria reproduces in light but if it goes in the filter it goes in the pond is the way I see it. 💪🏻
My original point was after seeing at least 2 TH-camrs trying to startup a new filter with PSB by pouring it into the bio chamber. PSB are not nitrifying bacteria. Think of it more like Cloverleaf Sludge Answer than Evolution Aqua Pure+
@dkoi-tv that is a really good point with storage and how long it sits on a shelf in a shop... Makes you wonder what we are spending our hard earned cash on sometimes..🤔🤔🤨
Hiya, glad you enjoyed the video. OJ seems to want to float just on the surface in that corner since that scare I had with him earlier on in the year. Seems happy enough and eating, so I've not bothered him.. 😊👍
Aesculapian-adder-grass snake three snakes known to live in the UK and that will eat pond fish you also have the smooth snake which is harmless. snakes are ambush predators that primarily eat amphibians, but they will also eat fish, after a good year for snakes they will more often now be seen in gardens, especially those with ponds. In the South and the Midlands. So should a fish go missing don’t think Heron think Snake.
Hiya, I got all my pipework from Peng Koi suppliers in Stoke on Trent. He should be able to help you. Check out his Facebook page. I think he's only open until first weekend in Nov then closes for the winter...🤔😉👍
Does your water stay in your filter because mine circulates from my pond, to my filter and returns back to the pond and the cycle continues, so it doesn't stay in your filter does it, there for it doesn't matter where you add it, as it is impossible for it to remain where you added it...
Hi Gaz, yeah normal system from the pond and back after the filters. I was curious from the comment from a viewer once than 1 channel ro see if they knew something qe didn't about that product.. Thanks for sharing..😉👍
Great video as always Andy 👍 Have you thought about enclosing your pond, rather than covering? I'm about to enclose my pond for the 3rd winter, but it still gives me access to the pond inside the enclosure. Dave @edenkoipond has just done his as well. You probably need to create a roof of some sort though I guess 🤔 That Bactoplus Fresh PSB is awesome stuff. Used 4 litres in the last few months. I've ways out it in my Nexus, as it'll get pumped round the pump. Hope you're well.
Hiya, Thanks for that. I have been considering putting a top on the pond so I can enclose it over winter instead of covers.. What ball park of cash do you recon are we talking as that would be the decider if it happens or not..🤔🤔😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle How long is a piece of string? Lots to consider and lots of options. Do you want a polycarb roof, a wooden roof. How many uprights, 4, 6 or 8 etc. Sorry ,that didn't help much did it 🤔
My pond always had a roof over it up untill last December when the high winds took it for its own pond 😂. So last winter was the only year it wasn’t covered. I am going to build a new roof over it again soon. So I don’t feel the need to cover mine. Have you ever thought of having a pergola/ roof over your pond Andy?
Hiya, The roof or pergola has always been an idea in the background that I would look closer at once I could afford one. Other things keep coming up that need spending on so keep being placed ahead of the roof. Never say never though..😉👍
most filters even moving beds have a cover over them which stops the light, so does that mean all the beneficial bacteria dies in your filter, i don’t think so 🤷♂️
Yes! We use USD as the final settlement currency, so any other currency will be converted to USD based on the real-time exchange rate. Please don't worry, this is a normal process and will not have any negative impact.
No covers yet..at least another 4 weeks before I decide. They have been washed down and are ready. Why don't you leave the inlet covered all year round. Do you leave the skimmer in the pond all year round ? Enjoy your Mondays. I'll take it..thanks.
Hiya, I uncover it so its not showing bubble wrap through the summer. I was looking at boxing it in? I have been leaving the skimmer in the water all year round so the motor doesn't dry out if it's left out over winter..😉👍
I dont think it really matters where you introduce the PSB. The water is constantly being turned over so the photosynthetic bacteria will be distributed throughout the whole water column.
Hi 👋, lot's to do out in the garden now preparing for the winter good to see bear lending a paw and jaw with the pruning 😅, my old girl prefers to stay in her bed these days. Gwen 🧓
Hiya, I hoping for a mild winter this year, but expecting a harsh winter again.. The Bear does like to eat any sticks he can get hold of and luckily spits it out for me to clean up later..😊👍
That ideas been on the back burner for a while now. Other things that cost are coming up that keep being placed ahead of covering the pond, so I cant justify that spend at the moment.. But never say never..😉👍

That's correct Andy you put it directly into your pond I keep mine in greenhouse so it gets plenty of light
That sounds like a good place to keep it...😉👍

I used to get a completely iced over pond of an inch of ice before I had the covers.. I can get really cold up here..🥶🥶😊

Hi mate, thanks for the mug shout out 👍 as for the bacteria, I don't think it would matter as the same water flows through the pond and filter.
