I cant believe this is your first youtube video! Its excellent. I love just watching the process of making art rather than hear someone talking too much. You are a fabulous artist. Please make more videos!!
This is a really great tutorial for people who have played around with the geli print process, but have not had a lot of success-like me! I was getting very frustrated with all these videos I was watching, because they did not explain that you had to wait between layers. I was just getting mud prints, but thanks to watching this video, I am more confident now. Thank you Jane and you have got yourself another subscriber!
HOW LOVELY! Great job on your first video! I like your style with the typewriter writing - no one else does that - VERY cool! Looking forward to more. Love & Respect... Deborah
Loved your typed information! So often video creators talk overly long, & I only have a limited amt of time I can watch videos. I gobble up the shorter ones. And I liked your speeded up pace for the same reason. Great first video, and now I’m a subscriber. Loved learning about the strong tissue paper! And your mark making and gel prints were very fun to see. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! I'm with you about the videos with too much talking - I'm too impatient and I want people to get to the point. I hope I manage that in my videos. I watch them through and if I get bored with my own content I chop it out! I want people to be inspired and I think that can be achieved with shorter and more focused content. Thanks for subscribing!!
You had me at “cuppa” and “cat” and followed with mark making and gelli printing!! My kind of video!! Your video was excellent and so beautifully presented. I researched wet strength tissue and found a supplier in the UK who ships internationally so I look forward to experimenting with it when it has winged it’s way to Australia. Thanks so much for sharing. 👌🏻
Glad you liked the video - I find using 2 plates works to clean off the brayer at bit rather than use scrap paper. Also I can work on one plate while the other dries if I'm doing something with layers of paint. 😀
How has it taken me a year to find you. For a first video this is superb. I subscribed within 10 minutes. Your video style and simplicity is a joy to watch. I’m a very visual learned and this was helpful.
I had not heard of that tissue paper (now hunting some ) 😁 Thankyou so much and loved your video ! ..Subscribed waiting to see more 🤗 oh love Gell printing ...
Lovely process. Thank you for sharing. One thing that would help is a list of materials used. I have chemo brain and sometimes I miss the images...can't process that quickly. One thing on my wish list is definitely black gesso. Can I add black paint to white gesso?
Hi Chris, that's a great suggestion! Black gesso is very much like a matte black paint. If you were to mix black paint with white gesso you would get a matte grey. I'm sure black paint on tissue paper would have the same effect as black gesso. I hope that makes sense. 😊
Wow! What beautiful work...color choices - great! I have been searching for wet strength tissue paper without success. Would you please share where you purchase it? I just subscribed and look forward to seeing more from you. Thank you!
Thank you very much. I get my wet strength from Carnival Papers www.carnivalpapers.com They are based in the U.K. If you visit their site at the top it says "overseas shipping" and there are links to suppliers in different parts of the world. Hope that helps!!
Wonderful "first video." Congratulations on a very professional video..... Love love love the typewriter font and clickety-clack of the typewriter sound effect !!! Very vintage and I love vintage. Question: where do you buy "wet strength tissue paper?" Is there a particular brand? I don't remember ever seeing it here in the States. I wonder if there is another name for it....... hmmmm.....
Thanks! I'm not sure if wet strength tissue it is available in the States. I know here in the UK it is sold by Carnival Papers and I have seen it on Amazon. It is very much like deli paper which is harder to find here in the UK. It is meant for making paper lanterns. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Really enjoyed this video. I had always thought wet strength tissue paper was very expensive, but thanks to your link to Carnival Papers I have now bought some and it was quite reasonably priced. I see that it has a shiny side and a rough side - please can you tell me which side you work on? Thank you.
I think I've worked on the shiny side, though I don't know that it makes all that much of a difference. I would suggest you experiment and see which you prefer and if you can see a difference. Let me know if you do. 😊
WOW!! Your technique is wonderful. Fantastic collage papers. I look forward to seeing more from you. If you don’t mind, where can I purchase wet strength tissue paper? Or who manufactures it?
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I bought mine from www.carnivalpapers.com/ in the UK, but I understand their paper is available from Amazon too. Hope that helps.
I got my wet strength tissue paper from www.carnivalpapers.com/. You can also buy it through Amazon. It is similar to deli paper but doesn't a wax sheen and it holds up to the wet of paints etc - especially if you are using it on the gelli plate. Regular tissue paper just turns to mush if it so much as sees a drop of water! 😊 I hope that helps!
Hi, if you use acrylic based products - like acrylic ink and acrylic paint to mark make on the wet strength tissue, then when it dries it is permanent and won't bleed when glued or wetted. I use matte medium to glue which is an acrylic based product too. Hope that makes sense. Thanks!!
Beautiful prints !!! I was going to buy some of this tissue paper on amazon until I saw the price . $65.00 for 60 sheets :( That's way too pricey for my pocketbook . I loved seeing your process though - love your prints !
Ouch that's expensive!! I don't blame you for passing on that offer. Here in the UK it's readily available, though deli paper isn't so I guess it depends on what you can get your hands on. Deli paper is very similar in weight and texture and I have had good results using that too. Hope that helps. 😊
I store them in their original packaging. They come sandwiched between two pieces of thick acetate which I re-apply and then put the whole thing back into the plastic packaging. I've had my gelli plate for a few years now and it is as good as new.
@@sandydorse6046 Hi Sandy, I came across this video (th-cam.com/video/ow1CH6o7eUQ/w-d-xo.html) about advice for caring and storing gelli plates. She suggests keeping them stored between 2 pieces of plain paper, which when you hear her explanation, makes perfect sense. Hope you find it helpful.
If you would talk thru the demo i would li,e and subscribe. I like to multi task and that cant be done if i have to keep my eye on the screen the entire video.😢
Hi, I totally get what you are saying. This was my first ever TH-cam video and I didn't quite have the courage to do a voice over at that point. I'm happy to say that with some of the newer videos I have done voice overs as I gained confidence. I'm learning as I go!! 😁
I’m confused - you took out a piece of collage paper with the black marks and said it was wet strength tissue paper. But then you proceeded to tear it easily before adhering it. Am I missing something?❤
Ah yes - if you have lots of layers of wet strength tissue, it is near impossible to tear them all at once, but one sheet at a time is as easy to tear as regular tissue. I hope that clears things up! 😁
I had a look and I do believe wet strength is acid free - whether it is archival I couldn't be certain as acid free and archival are 2 different things. I'm sure if you contacted the company that makes the tissue paper they could give you more specifics. I like using it as it isn't as waxy as deli paper and holds the paint better - but it is all personal choice and finding what works for you.
Hi Jane, this is a terrific first video. I have wanted to try wet strength tissue for a while because all the Americans talk about deli paper & it costs quite a lot here. I've tried parchment paper, but it is a little too waxy. Must get myself organised! By the way, I'm a new follower of your Instagram page, I go by my blog name minibookpixie over there 😊
How lovely to put a name with the face and the handle! 😊 Thanks for the lovely feedback both on here and on IG - I really appreciate it.
