    Important to note that you need to wash the modeling paste off the stencil immediately because if it dries in the stencil it won’t come off!

      That is true. Though I don't mind having the different color values that adding paint and then applying water adds to the tissue paper. It depends on the overall effect that you are looking for. Thanks for your comment!

  • @BarbaraGilbertdesigner
    @BarbaraGilbertdesigner 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I just found you and I'm so glad I did. Thanks for sharing this awesome video. I was so inspired that I tried it immediately with some cheap tissue paper that I had on hand. Not sure what happened but as soon as I added water everything bled through the bottom and I had a huge mess on my hands, lol. Thankfully I had it on an easy to clean surface board. I used acrylic ink and India ink. What did I do wrong?

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm glad that you enjoyed the video! I tend do add color to the tissue paper on a piece of freezer paper, parchment paper or a craft mat (a non-stick surface). I then set it aside to completely dry. Once it's dry, the acrylic ink should be absorbed into the surface. I tend to let it air dry for the best results. The good thing about using paint is that it'll actually make the cheap tissue paper stronger. I tend to use art quality tissue paper as it's better made (here's the link to what I use: amzn.to/4aca5SU) and stands up a lot better to wet mediums. I hope that helps and that you get better results next time!

  • @robinsartsandcrafts6500

    This looks cool.
    Have you tried spraying the tissue first? The paint may flow more easily that way?

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't, mostly because I'm worried that if I add too much water, the tissue will tear before I get any paint on it. But perhaps I should give it a try! I think in the future I'll either water down my paint a bit before applying or use high flow acrylics. It probably doesn't help that some of my paint is quite old!

    Hi, I was just wondering at 17:58 what glue/paste did you use to get the tissue paper to stick in your journal? And also wondering if you can use this technique on cotton and linen canvas too- not just paper. Thanks! :) Love you work!

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! For the adding the tissue paper I used Liquitex Matte Medium. Yes, this would work on other surfaces like cotton and linen. If you are working on an untreated surface, you will probably need to apply more medium as I find untreated canvas and surfaces will absorb a bit more of the matte medium. Thanks for watching! 🙂

    Thank you for your video! Did you use matte medium to attach the tissue to your paper or something else? Did you finish the page with any kind of sealer or can you do that?? Thanks so much!!💕

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome- thanks for watching and I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Yes, I do use matte medium to attach the tissue to the paper, it's the best medium because it won't tear the tissue. I usually add a layer of matte medium to the surface, gently add the tissue paper and add a layer of matte medium on top. Since I mostly work in a journal, I don't usually seal the pages. If you're working on a canvas piece or a piece that will get a lot of sunlight, I'd consider using a varnish to finish it off. But because I'm using artist grade gel and matte mediums they usually provide enough sealant to protect my pieces without needing anything extra.

  • @agardener3621
    @agardener3621 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thank your for the video. I've been looking into this for making may own covers for journals. You stated that the tissue paper is fragile when wet, have you tried putting the tissue paper onto plastic or waxed paper? You can then manipulate your tissue paper without tearing.

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Yes, the tissue paper is fragile with wet. When filming the video, I had several silicone mats that I was using for the wet tissue paper. I would color the tissue and then pull the entire mat to set it aside to dry. I think I edited it out and didn't mention that in the video. I often use parchment paper because it is silicone coated and when paint or ink dries, it won't stay stuck to the surface. Tissue paper would work great for covers in a journal, though I would add a medium over top for durability. Sometimes I even add a layer of pouring medium or tar gel to help protect my journal covers and make them more durable. Thanks for your question!

    Is it true that when you touch (with bare hands) the acid free item it is no longer acid free ?

    • @hopalongstudio
      @hopalongstudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really good question and I don't know the answer. Though it made me curious so I googled to see what I could find. From a few minutes of research, I didn't see anything pointing to touching paper making it more acidic. It talked more about the process of buffering the paper to make it less acidic which will help with the longevity of the paper. But one thing to consider, if you are adding any sort of matte medium, acrylic gel or paste to the paper, this will make it archival. This means that because it is encased in plastic (acrylic) and this will protect it from the elements. If you are using good quality products (like Golden mediums that are tested based off of a 75 year life) this will prevent your project from yellowing or going brittle over time. I don't know if that really answers your question, but let me know what you think! I love that you asked such an interesting question!
