The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Back to a time when people had to have real talent to be on tv.👍👍
So true
She is singing live. Sounds like a studio recording but that's just how damn superlative she was.
Yes I agree!
I bet the producers didn't have to do much. I read that she takes long to record though, because she was a perfectionist.
@@Robconnors7253 no, live. Background was the instrumental of the studio recording
I never knew that was live. That was a perfect performance.
I'm only guessing, but she might be lip-syncing to her own recording.
I feel so privileged to have grown up in the absolute best decades for music: 60, 70, 80’s!
ooh me too and some of the best in London in the mid-sixties
I'm not so sure, there was a lot of hype & rubbish about too. Ringo... drummer? There are better 10 year olds! The Applejacks!! Mick Jagger!! Freddie & the Dreamers... Cilla Black!! Most couldn't sing a tune... and we had the delights of Jimmy Savile presenting them. But Dusty, Kathy Kirby and Matt Monro, I'll concede.
@@johnbobson1557 what about Cliff Richard, Cilla, Helen Shapiro, Lulu, Petula Clark. :o))
@@juttaweise Cliff, Billy Fury, Joe Brown... awful (in my view) Lulu hopeless and Cilla terrible. Petula (Downtown?) a neutral but Helen Shapiro I agree. However, compared to say Oana Dima (Rumanian) or Vanny Vabiola (Indonesia) or Erdenechimeg (Mongolia)... Google them... you can see why it is only the English speaking market that made these UK celebs famous. The Beatles were in the right place at the right time but the music is just advertising jingles, nothing more. "She Love You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah..." 60's TicTok. Sarah Brightman has a voice though most in the 60's were just products of the period and there were some terrible one-hit wonders!
@@johnbobson1557 I think you have to take into consideration that in the 60ies most had to have a voice because all of todays technical schnick-schnack did not exist. I just loved Lulu because she made me want to dance. It's all a matter of taste. If you talk about really good music then one should take a look at west- sudafrica of that aera. My son reproduces music from those times and considering the possibilities existing there were great musicians. The world appreciates today, while the western young people just looked across the pond for the trend. And because of a shared language english artists had an advantage. Most of the great groups of the 70ies to which we still listen to today came out of GB.
The music industry truly lost something when she passed, as did we all.
This video is the reason why I crown Dusty "The First Lady of Blue-Eyed Soul ".Love her so much.
No gimmicks, no nudity, just pure raw talent. This is the way to make a star. Beautiful lady and beautiful soul
So true!!🫶
And lip syncing
Absolutely
Because nowadays we're all nude? Dude, stop!
This is just a reminder to me not to be a judgemental fart when I get older.
@@SillyGoose2024 No lip-synching on Ed Sullivan.
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE VOICE! Soft, sultry, passionate, powerful - Dusty could sing it all!
Her voice is in-sane-ly beautiful. It's like a perfect mix between sheer power and the smoke rising from it, so effortless.
Best description of her voice ever 💜 I couldn’t agree more.
Yes!
If you need proof that there is really a Heaven, I think God may have put just a drop of it on her voice.. knew dusty was, good, didnt know she was this good ..
effortless indeed ...
To me her voice is like pure cream
Now you know why the 1960s was and always will be, the greatest decade in music history.
Yes and Amen!
Nope! 60s were great for making a foundation of what is today's popular music.... But every decade has something great to offer.
For example, I'll argue that I prefer 90's because they have pretty much every genre established...you could enjoy rock, pop, hip hop, electronica, indie, alternative music.
One of the greatest female singers that ever lived. She is so beautiful too!
Before Amy Winehouse/ Adele and Joss Stone this lovely Lady could sing with such soulfulness that Aretha said ‘Girl!’ Dusty just loved that the Queen of Soul loved her singing
Dusty Springfield could sing the Arby's menu and, stop traffic for miles in each and every direction.
PERFECTION
Perfect voicr
@@annaritaranalli2902 ♥️♥️♥️▶️♥️👍👍🙏🌱🤗🙁▶️✌️👍🍀
How about the phone book in a phone booth.
She is the type of person to make an Arabic phone book sound interesting
😆😆😆😆😆 Very true but damn that was funny as hell 🤣
Before there was Anyone,. There was Dusty Springfield! A True Legend!
That sultry, soulful voice...that hair...those little dance moves. Dusty was the total package.
Singing live but still maintaining that studio perfect sound.
I think this version is better. got more bounce to it
@@SaltyChip Wtf..."bounce"?..... Are you sure you're on the right page there buddy? This is a Dusty Springfield music video comment thread, not that of a local HOOTERS fanboy page club. Sheeesh. Some guys.
@@brandonbrook9664 I can't tell if you're joking or not 😹
Dusty oozes Kentucky, Tennessee, and the South in so many ways. Yes, I know she was originally from England.
No British blood in that lady, she was 100% Irish - the daughter of immigrants to the UK.
@@Macca-rb5okYa I think her parents were from Kerry I think her mother was from Tralee. I'm not sure where in Ireland her father was from.
The great session guitarist Reggie Young on an iconic opening lick. RIP Reg.
Vocal perfection. One of the all-time greatest female voices ever. R.I.P. 🌹
This is one of the best live performances I've ever seen, her voice is Just divine.
All the live performances back then we're better. Real musician era.
It is a really charismatic performance as well, with relation to the body language.
Lip sync was and is common on tv shows.
@infocom3231it is live
@infocom3231 Agree Pretty obvious with the backing vocals not present.
Dusty is still one of the few women singers who I can watch over and over and fall in love again with her talent and presence ❤❤❤
Perfection is an understatement.
Imagine an Dusty and Elvis duet Two great voices together.
My jaw is dropped to the floor.................
Dusty was always very beautiful and very classy
A natural beauty
Still stunning, after all these years.
She’s pretty
I will never get fedup listening to that song....
Hits from daaaa booooooooong
What is pop music, if not: joy, pleasure, nostalgia, and innocent lust? Got it all right here.
So pretty-hair, singing, nails, the whole package. she looks so comfortable singing this classic.
She's absolutely gorgeous...
Dusty Springfield was the White Queen of Soul and introduced the Motown sound to England.
Yes, she did!
Other singers can cover it, but none can duplicate it.
That's not true at all. A handful of female artists have actually bettered the vocals.
Dusty nails it, but several others have done this song justice.
Very good dusty nice song 🎵 🎉
I can't find the words to describe that voice. Like cigarette smoke and whisky
She is the most perfect woman to ever exist
I wonder how many people can thank their existence because of this song?
This is the best version hands down
Hi Audrie 💐💐
Someone from Paraguay? Kisses from Paraguay 🇵🇾
DUSTY..The undisputed Queen of blue-eyed soul music !
One of the most underrated intros to a song EVER!
I wasn't born till 1971 but I love Dusty's music 🎶❤
Here comes the British Queen of Soul and R&B. Ladies ands gents, the one and only .......Dusty Springfield!!!!! And oh God, sweet talking to me, that's where I began to be lost
Soul :- was not her origimal genre. Blue- eyed soul, she was naturally queen. Her voice was not the most powerful by any means but certainly the most distinctive. You can imagine any of the black queens singing this song with more power but can you imagine any one singing this song to this effect? When you go back to her earlier hits it's undeniable that this girl can sing! Pop,rock, soul, you name'em. I gather her fortunes:- financial especially:- were not well towards the end but that's life. And for all of life's fortunes, good or bad,we were fortunate to have her in our midst. Our lives are certainly richer for her presence.
She was far superior to all the black singers. PERIOD.
@@lesviesblanchescomptent nice take! Tuoche'
She has a unique voice talent.
What a beautiful woman and song.
Second that...
That bass is so delicate. It fits in so well.
I know she was good, but damn unbelievable how good she sounds live and she is so perfect that it looks so easy to give that kind of a performance...
Hołd i wielki szacunek dla Dusty Springfield.
Należy JEJ się to.
A więc proszę,❤ czapki z głów !!!!
Pozdrawiam z zimnej Polski wszystkich JEJ słuchaczy.
Marek.
Smooth, sexy and emotionally responsive vocal power. Dusty was a great one.

The late great DUSTY SPRINGFIELD was a very talented and very beautiful THE GREATEST WHITE FEMALE SINGER IN HISTORY MORE THAN ANYBODY FEMALE VOCALIST
.
Warm…Warmer…DISCO 🕺🏻
What a beautiful woman. She had it all ….
I love what she does with her hands.
No cover has ever got close to this, the original.
Brilliant lady, and absolutely love her outfit. such style, unlike like stars of today always half dressed flashing their bits at everyone?
Pick it, pack it, fire it up, come along and take hits from the bong.
No autotune. But a buttload of echo.
Really like her blouse, that would still look good in 2020:)
Beautiful blue-eyed soul…..
"Son of a Preacher man! absolutely a. Gem!"
I would never knew it was live on a talk show if you never told me . Wow
That voice is magic. She was an amazing singer.
Wow she was just everything amazing beautiful and you no the rest ❤
She looks so gorgeous that hair that style ❤️
Mary O'Brien was an absolute star!
I've always loved this song! Wish radio stations would play it more often
Pulp Fiction gave it a whole new audience but even that film is pretty old now!
Dusty Springfield such beauty! Especially her nose! Love her nose!!!!!!! May God rest your soul dusty!!!!
Music without auto tune was so beautiful 😢
That outfit❤ is phenomenal.
Hi Marilyn💐💐
Pure.....talent! No auto tunning nor a tracked recording lip-syncing.......just pure talent.
Hits from the bong
She’s so graceful and frilly.
Jaw dropping beautiful.
I love you, Dusty Springfield 🥰
What a little pocket rocket.
RIP,Dusty,you still live on.😘
This is so 60s. I love it
the base line on this song is superlative along with Dusty’s vocals.
dusty was fabulous
God I love that smoky voice
Simply beautiful and effortless. And, she drove a 64’ Emerald Green Buick Riviera
I know that she had the Riviera, but not the color. Thank you for the info.
@@chrisjeffries2322 …you’re very welcome.
What a voice.
Dusty's likely the finest White female singer from that era. Absolutely mesmerizing vocals and the way she delivered a song was astounding!
She's amazing, and tragic simultaneously. What a talent.
What a talent was dusty, think i only ever saw her sing live on the tv, one of the greatest female singers ever.
She's brilliant. Such a talent, gone too soon.
I love the blouse and the cool sleeves on it...
Hi Deb💐💐
Dusty Springfield had soul
Every time great
She was so beautiful and a voice of an angel...
The thing is, I listened to at least 100 covers of this song. Noone can sing it like Dusty did. It just needs her smoky but still clear, strong but melting voice. Amazing Dusty!
Staggeringly magnificent. I love her little dance moves as well.
she`s still got it!!!
Outstanding vocalist, stage presence, and sooooooo beutiful
