I have no background or experience in construction but after watching this video I was able to replicate the entire process and build my dream modern shed… And then I woke up.
I am a back yard carpenter. Built my own tiny home here in Hawaii, gearing up to build another. This was so inspiring and you’ve taught me so many little tricks. Congrats on the build.
Wow! Great video!!! Every time I watch this I think about flipping my desk over at work, walking out and staring a new career. I like to build and use my hands, this is good motivation for my next job. Thank you!!!!
Every one of your videos has me thinking I should've gone into construction and design.... I don't know why, but all of this looks like fun. HARD WORK, yeah!! ...but still, just fun... like my spirit is telling me something... Not sure I can get into this at my age... but man, I really wish I had.
This was so cute. I agree with some of the other comments that when I watch these videos, I wish I went into construction. Yes, it’s a TON of work but you can build whatever you want (within your skill, sure) & not have to pay others lots of money. It also allows people to showcase their creativity & I just love that!
Love Iron Ore color! First time I saw a shed in the mountains painted with it, I was in love. You are quite the craftsman. Love the finishing touch on the barn doors! Nice work....be blessed!
Thank you so much for the video. I just finished building my own Shed from scratch in about two hours without any proper tools, just this video and couple of wood planks and my bare-hands. Thanks TH-cam much appreciated.
as an experienced international designer i give 5 star rating for these magnificent work! your industrial design concept for a barn door gives a cool innovative look.
You are not builder, you are simply a magician. I really hope to have a brother like you who could simply turn boards and nails into such a lovely warm garden house. I won’t describe it as a shed. Really love it. Thanks very much for uploading the building processes. Really jealous for what you could do 😊😊
Just purchased 88 acres of cleared property with a natural river running through it and have been contemplating multiple she'd designs for months to put close to it. This shed will be perfect for all of my new fly fishing equipment. This is beautiful and if I had that club house, I'd have left it all as is, it would've doubled as an elevated hunting shack
Wow, building a shed from start to finish sounds like such a fulfilling project! It's amazing how constructing something with your own hands can be so rewarding. The process of designing, choosing materials, and seeing your vision come to life step by step is truly an accomplishment. Not to mention, a new shed is super practical for storage or even as a personal workspace. Enjoy the building journey! 🛠🏡✨

when you were talking about getting swept away with plywood whilst you were sheathing the roof it reminded me when I was a beginner carpenter my team and i were sheathing a low sloping roof 3 storeys high with 3/4" tongue and groove plywood. it was a windy day and I'm a pretty heavy guy like around 260 pounds but whilst I was carrying a sheet of plywood a sudden gust of wind picked up dragging me of the roof with it i fell but thankfully my harness and lanyard saved my life or at least save me from being permanently paralyzed.
I'm glad I found your video. For the first one, I was a little hesitant, but the longer I watched it and saw the results, damn, it's really good!! The color tone is the best!

The best how-to instructional video I've ever seen. Really great job at show the how and why for everything you did. I'm actually building a sauna that will look very similar to this, so you just saved me from so much time researching everything I needed to know to get it started.
Hey Bart. I am rewatching this now to refresh my memory on your roof framing for my upcoming project. How is the polycarbonate holding up? Any discolorations or cracking? Thanks!
This video literally inspired me to make my own shed instead of buying a commercial generic one that will probably cost almost the same. Love everything that you have taught and shared in this build. Although I still need to get some tools that you have. Just bought my house recently and had a nice surprise that we had a huge backyard that is perfect for a shed. Can you share a ballpark amount of the total expenses for this build. That way I can start getting the supplies I need. This was remarkably done. When my husband install our next shed I will be sure to have this video ready for him. I absolutely love it from start to finish.... Kudos, my guy!
Finally someone who installs the house wrap properly. So many builders install it after the windows are already in. Great video. For those looking to do a diy shed… My head exploded on seeing OSB on a roof. Zip sheathing yes, ply wood for sure. But OSB should not go on a horizontal surface. It will wick water and puff up. Yes many builders use it but I’ve seen it have issues far more then not. And those roof screws should only go on they ridges. Those washers degrade over time and will leak. I just did a $150k roof repair job on a warehouse and they issue was only second to fiberglass sky lights failing.
I love how you built the whole thing! My mistake was ordering an "Amish built" shed and then finishing it out myself. Amish out here are not craftsmen, and things were pretty shotty on the construction. I should have just built it myself to save time, but I'm also busy running our farm. My floors are pretty chilly though since insulation is minimal . . . but overall it turned out amazing! Since my cabin will eventually be moved to the woods and we are on a farm, I kept with the "cabin feel" but did more glamor cabin with beautiful birds eye maple boards and light fixtures out of a $2 million dollar home :D Total out the door was about $8,000 for the cabin and the finishing (complete with spray foam)
Thank you for posting this. I had been struggling with a pole barn design to match my current wood shed and you solved it for me. I needed both secure/dry storage and open covered space. I will upsize your concept a bit to fit my needs but yours will have a doppelgänger in summer 2022.
My TOP THREE favorite things about this shed: 1) Metal roof 2) The use of plexiglass and making your own windows, this was phenomenal and it gave the shed a modern and custom look - 3) You did this all by yourself. Of course, I liked many other things about this build and your techniques, and you did not take any shortcuts, even the fasteners had rubber in them, you've spent the money on the right materials to flash it really well. I am not sure what you do for a living, since this is the first video I watched on your channel, but I can't imagine if you had a crew of two or three dudes who you can rely on for help - you can start a great AIRBNB business building these tiny homes (after buying land of course in hot spots). Companies sell tiny homes like these for 20-25k starting, and of course once you start utilizing solar power, put a little plumbing, kitchen, bed room in it, you can make it a money maker. Good luck !!!
I enjoyed your video on the construction of your shed. I especially liked your attention to details which helped me better understand each process of the build. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I love this - we’ve been looking for a design for a mini shed-office for the backyard, and this is pretty perfect. What’s the inside dimensions? And roughly what was your total build cost? I love your voiceover, by the way. We watch a lot of construction/build videos and often get a little frustrated with the commentary, but you struck the exact right balance, so thank you for that! I feel like we actually learned a lot :)
Thank you so much. It’s 10x12 outside so inside it will be just a little smaller. As for the cost honestly I didn’t keep track since this was built over a year. I’m guessing close to 5k with the concrete and all materials
Just a heads up. Although the pressure treated facia may have been cheaper, the chemicals used to pressure treat the wood reacts with aluminum and will cause it to corrode and eat away at the aluminum drip edge and facia covering you put on.
First cool looking shed. SUGGESTIONS for others to consider: 1. Placing the shed so the roof is southern facing could allow solar panels to charge e-lawn equipment, irrigation, shed lighting, or landscape lighting. 2. Depending on your location, you could install gutters to capture rain water.
As for the shed I would have had the wall between the carport and the shed retractable or fully openable, to be able to use the carport as extended additional floor space in good weather.

This is by far the best shed I have seen yet!! You are truly amazing and I love your attention to detail. Colors are beautiful!! Love the natural wood on the outside as an accent and absolutely LOVE those barn doors.... so happy for you and I can't wait to see what else you have in store for this build.

Great build ! I will definitely use this info to personalize my own build. I like the plexiglass windows. I wonder if just like car headlight that fade with UV over the years, if using a coating spray protector like plexus will prolonge there lifespan and see-through-ness. Great editing and narrating. Thanks Serge Canada
Too late now, but buying panes of sheet glass (you can get them delivered cheap) and cutting with a hand wheel (score and snap) would have worked great for those size windows. I've had to do it a few times, and so long as you don't make the (only one time in your life) mistake of getting tempered glass, you won't have any difficulty. No, I never tried to score-snap tempered glass, but know people who did. Once.
Thank you for the detailed instruction. At first I saw the doors and said "Whut??" But the more I look at them, the more I really like them. Makes me want to build my shed in the front yard with the doors facing the street. 😅
I love this look. We are halfway through a 12x12 zip-line tower with a shed underneath. Imagine your first build (deck over shed). This is perfect, and I think it's going to work for us. Appreciate the effort you put into showing the flashing detail. Little things like that become big things when done wrong. You can fudge around a framing member out of place, but water is the enemy of everything man has ever built. Thanks again. Subbed.
Very good looking shed but a few errors to mention if someone would like to copy or use your video to build a house : 1) for the fascia you used treated lumber, you can't install aluminium straight on it, it will rust within a year or two. A piece of Tyvek between the two would have worked. Speaking of Tyvek... 2) You didn't leave space between the Tyvek and the siding. It has to breathe, a 5/8 spacing would suffice (1x3 is perfect for that). 3) The sheeting for walls and roof is aspenite/OSB, not plywood. You do mention "OSB plywood" at 10:27. Real plywood would have been better practice but more expensive and I agree that for a shed it would have been overkill. One last thing, for your door's overhead, I'm not sure that you can sandwich lumber and OSB. An engineer might want to confirm this one but I don't think OSB adds the same strength then plywood. Anyhow, for what I see, the added strength shouldn't be necessary in your case, there isn't much load on top of it.

Just a tip I found helpful. You can drill a 3/16th hole where you are screwing the roof down while you have them in a stack. That way all the screws are in a nice straight line. Great job on the shed

2. Depending on your location, you could install gutters to capture rain water.

This is a shed who cares get a life bro
@@Kilo5910420 Haha, man, he's just giving more information for those that care. People can use videos and comments to build something to live in or just better quality.
You are correct on the treated lumber and aluminum. It corrodes right thru in about 2-3 years
I didn’t know treated lumber does that👌
@@FEV369 agree, it's still better to know more so you can improve and better in what you do.
it still amazes me how talented people are at building from scratch and making look amazing! Great vid!
This looks great!!! Really nice design and functionality.
Thanks so much brother
SOOOO many AWSOME TIPS building this gorgeous shed. I’m about to build a skillion roofed bathroom for our farm. Hubby will be helping so I’m lucky to have some help, and your videos are great tutorials. Just wish we had those incredible flashing products here in Australia. 🇦🇺 Bugga. Cheers buddy .👍
Truly awesome craftsmanship! Love the design and those doors are spectacular!
I love it. Only bummer to me is the barn door cause I feel like weather and bugs could get in around it. Has this been a problem for you?
Next level!!! 🔥
Ahhhhh the how to for the board & batton. Your videos are magic!!! Thank u so much!!!!!!
Holding up great
This build was really amazing. The only thing I have to hate on are the doors..the shed looks very modern and beautiful but the doors look like something from a cyber video game and they don’t go together in my opinion. But beautiful shed none the less
Funny that I love that door.. 😹😹
Love the optimism and the detail. Good job and thank you Skitter.
Truly impressive pal. If I was your neighbor, I’d be over helping you out every weekend just so I can pick some of those skills.
My neighbor just stood over the fence and watched lol

Lol
Man I wish I had that carpenter knowledge and skill… beautiful work
Thanks brother. You got this
Amazing job! I love the way the shed turned out it’s unique and modern. Also, just wondering would you happen to have a drawing that you made for this? I would love to do this in my backyard
Not yet I don’t but I will be doing some drawings over winter when I have a few days. Once I do I’m going to post them on the website. Just check back in a month or so
@@KomarProject perfect thanks 🙏
I started my shed making journey today by watching a video on Escape from Tarkov. Now I am a certified Shed/Greenhouse builder with 3 hours of experience watching DIY videos.
Super. Freaking. Cool!
Beyond. Frickin. Hideous.
Thanks brother. Really means a lot
Nice build. Really impressive doing the job as the only laborer and
coming up with ingenious workarounds to lift by yourself and other tasks that require two men; but doing as a single guy….GOOD WORKAROUNDS.
Thanks Robert. Ya working alone you find some creative ways to do stuff. Cheers buddy
Im sorry but i HATE the door. It stands out like a sore thumb
Woohoo, you are a sore thumb
I love the addition of the steel barn doors.
👍💖💚💛
Thank you
This is the first time I see one of your videos. I still don't know how I got here, but it was worth it. Incredible work, with attention to small details, excellent explanation of the steps to follow. From this moment I am a new subscriber of your channel
Thank you so much Jorge. Welcome
Not everyone can do it. it's only for handy people with some knowledge and some skills. Thank you so much for the vdo by the way, it will help me to build mine. thanks again.
You are very welcome !!!
THAT STEEL BARN DOOR IS CRAZY! WOW❤️🤯
Thanks man
Very impressed 👍 you gave great details even as much as the nails to pressure treated wood you hardly have anyone these days who care over these important details
What a true craftsman! You have serious talent sir!!! Great job.
Thank you so much !!!!
I love all the little tricks to help you get things done when working by yourself, cool perspective 👍
Thank you
That was SMART to use the "Support Post" as a building block.. Very SMART!!! 😎
Bomb, just started my shed project right now, starting to tackle the interior decisions
Awesome! I’m sure it will be great my friend
Everything in the video was excellent beautiful design beautiful creation beautiful the door is marvelous thank you so very much for sharing your experience it was so great to see a project like this
Thanks so much
The steampunk barn doors are so beautiful !!
Thank you so much. I love it too
Holy Molly that is truly an outstanding job! I am loving it. Do you think that someone without experience could pull it off? That someone is me 😂😂😂
You can. Just one step at a time and alway know your next move
This project is amazing! I love how you reused the old playhouse, so smart!
Thanks so much Jameson. Ya we didn’t want to just demo it and wanted to repourpose it.
Just a tip I found helpful. You can drill a 3/16th hole where you are screwing the roof down while you have them in a stack. That way all the screws are in a nice straight line. Great job on the shed
Im amazed watching you built it by youre self, great skill tho! greetings from Philippines!
Thank you Elmer
Killed me with the CR123!!! 😂That is totally something I would have done. BEAUTIFUL shed and thanks for an excellent video.
Thanks man!!
