I have a romance with Liara every time, in my opinion it's the best romance in the game, Shepard is her first love and she saves him from the attack on Normandy at the beginning of the second part. I even read about BioWare's statements that Liara is the most canonical romance in the game, it is even confirmed by the fact that she is the only one who cannot die during the entire trilogy, and you can romance her as a male and female shepard In the third part, she regrets that she was not with us in the second part, and the music that plays during the scenes with her in ME3 gives me shivers down my spine, I mean "I was lost without you"(1:37:11) She plans to have children with Shepard and her last beautiful words in London "I'm all your Shepard" or the moment when the dying Shepard resembles her face causes me to tears. One of the best romances in video games.
I basically agree with all of this but Liara is only near invincible in the third game while being 100% invincible in the first two. If your war assets are low enough and she’s in your squad when you make the final run with Harbinger shooting at everyone charging, she and your other squadmate will die from Harbinger’s beam but that’s the only time she can die and it that’s if you rush the game too fast.

From the literal moment they meet, when Shepard frees her from the stasis trap, Liara is smitten. An hour or so later, she is blown away when she learns that, after 50 years of dedication to her field of Prothean study, this human knows exactly what happened to them, thanks to a working Beacon. This person she had never met, had just revealed the answer to a question 5 decades on her mind, in a single sentence. She can barely process the information, she's so staggered by the revelation. Fast forward to after the destruction of the Normandy SR-1. Liara is the only person who laid down her own time, and likely nearly her own life, to recover Shepard's body. She knows they are the one person in the galaxy with any shot at stopping the impending invasion. She can't let go. Did Garrus try to help? Did Tali? Did either of those toxic shithead humans, whomever survived Virmire? No. It's clear when she breaks down on the Broker's Ship, that she was devastated by the Commander's apparent death, and she's at a loss for words to explain her feelings now that Shepard's back. Fast forward to the Reaper War. Right at the start, you can reconfirm your interest in her, or break it off. If you're an asshole and you break it off, the pain in her voice is like glass shattering. Only it's her heart. Her dedication if you pick the correct choice, is absolute. They haven't said it yet, but they really are in love. And those final, breathless moments, in the light of Harbinger's quadratic glare... I can't stop a wetness from hitting my eyes each time I watch the scene play out. @@TheWefikus Liara referred several times to Shepard as her friend. Look the Liara's Project scene for example(and there are more or this kind). Canon is that Liara and Shepard are close friends(perhaps a romance in me1), but it ends with a closest friends relationship.
The only reason Liara matured this fast is because she thought Shepard was dead. Her heart grew quite cold over the years. Shepard threw her into her matron stage quite early in her life with that, but she's still as naive as she's been. What a complex character.

I'm new in the Shepard religion, this trilogy is amazing. I know this is a game, but the history absorbs you, and Liara is so deeply connected to him, that my Shepard never cheated on her.
It's great that Liara's front and center in BioWare's recent tease. It's like she keeps losing & finding Shepard over and over again, breaking & mending her heart continuously. I hope the coming game presents Shepard, Liara, and their troubled romance. There's no better chance to present the passage of time, losses, love, hope, and depression than through her.

The whole game feels so different in a way with the new textures, it kind of looks like the sped up some of the animations too giving it that crisp smoothness it has in some scenes like where Grunt checks on Shep after the fall. Also, the lines "You were dead." "I got better." makes Shepard sound like space Chuck Norris
I think it was a subtle tribute to Monty Python: "Oh she turned me into a newt" "A newt?" "I got better." They pay homage to lots of movies in this trilogy.
I like Tali, but I always go with Liara. That way Garrus and Tali get together and we’re all happy. Gotta let my boy Garrus get some too. 💪 Besides, Liara just seems like Shepard’s perfect match.

1:42:43 was when the romance died. It feels like she only wants us to be friends without any romance or joy, like shepard was nothing. Considering that they saved each others lives, wouldnt be whoe they were without each other and basically started this epic tale together, this entire moment made me go to Tali.
late response but since nobody else said it, it didnt die there at all. that was just poor writing. character interaction and all is lovey and happy and they basically both say theyre obviously more than friends. if the romance was ever at a point of dying it was when shepard died and liara went through a rough time with that and in her life, and then after she finally got near accepting it, he randomly popped up again, so it was traumatic as f***, led to her not being able to lose him again etc. basically having a husband or wife die in front of you, then few years later "hey how you doing i just got back in town, so that was crazy, huh?"

it depends if you do her loyalty mission in ME2 she would survives the suicide mission because you have to make sure you do every squadmate loyalty missions
I kept replaying this mission after I accidentally got Kasumi killed, trying to get Miranda killed instead, only to find out she can’t die. I ended up losing Legion and Grunt😂

If you take Liara on every mission possible like I do she effectively becomes the deuteragonist of the series. Well actually she is that regardless. She is the only one capable of discerning the location of Ilos. She recovers Shepards body and hands it over to the lazarus project. She becomes the shadow broker and aids in the discovery of the "prothean" macguffin. Without her the trilogy grinds to a halt at 3 key points, 1 time each per game. I think thats why she also has her haters: deep down they know shes far more important than their faves. Even precious Garrus and Tali are expendable by comparison.
Yep and even after all that Liara survived the reaper invasion into ME4 surely a matriarch now liara will be op, her and shep are the ultimate duo in the ME universe they both need each other and I actually think their romance is canon, they have a lot of special moments together in game that isn’t just seggs

well, humans are still relatively "young" in terms of participating in galactic affairs. brash and bullish, as liara sort of describes in me1 as you go through the conversation tree. considering how brief human lifespans are in comparison to the asari (longer still though than the salarians, though), it might have been weirder still.
Well is more weird to her because she is a loner who keeps herself in solitary places and had not much interaction with other species (specially humans)

I think the canon romance route would be something like Liara in the first game, Miranda in the second and then Liara again. Liara is basically the one character that can't die, plus she saves Shepard in between one and two. But she also disappears in two, making Shepard wake up and go into the galaxy with Miranda at his side. Then in three it's kinda the opposite, Miranda is away but Liara is back in full force and it closes the arc perfectly.
It's better to choose 1 or the other since dumping Miranda makes her suicidal, hence why she can't be saved on Sanctuary no matter what Shepard does or says.

To me Mass effect 4 teaser proves that Liara's romance is the canon one because it's the only that makes sense and combines with her gesture during the memorial, where she tilts her head up and looks hopefull around the moment we see Sheppard breath in, clearly sensing her mate!!! P.S. For those who haven't seen, the teaser is basically Liara looking for someone or something (Sheppard) in a snowy earth
Not to burst your bubble, but many have speculated ME4 might actually be a prequel game following Liara finding Shepard's body after the opening of 2. So it might be between 1 and 2, like Halo 3: ODST.

Look at both of Liara’s parents, they’re matriarchs and look the same age as their daughter. Samara is 800-900 years old and literally looks exactly like her 400 year old daughter.
12:20 ... So, I just realised one of Harbingers lines in ME2 are severely flawed... "Asari, reliance upon alien species for reproduction, shows genetic weakness" ... And yet, Liara says what she says at the timestamp... The only thing I can assume to make the line make sense is that Harbinger maybe also believes that Asari + Asari relationships are primitive.
Liara has always been my preferred choice of a romantic partner, I don’t usually go for Ashley or other humans because I find cross-species relationships to be interesting and all the other relationships in the sequels aren’t as long as the other romances in the first game. Apologies to Tali fans. In addition, Asari are one of my alien species, along with the Turians and Krogan.
Liaras romance to me felt like it had the most depth in its writing she in general is one of the best characters in fiction frankly. I'm not undermining the other romances I do like Tali Jack and Miranda for options as well.

Having my first playthrough now, still at ME2. She's the only one that I'm interested to romance with. Her character, and her voice are simply irresistible.
It seems more genuine doesn't it. I honestly felt that Bioware wanted Shepherd and Liara as canon. The other relationships are alright, but the Liara romance hit better with me. Besides, she's a fantastic character.
I started off smitten with Liara, but after ME2, I became incapable of romancing anyone other than Miranda. She's my baby. It's for this reason that I hold a grudge against BioWare. Miranda never received the same love that Liara and Tali did. They both have more romantic scenes, especially Liara. And Miranda's last words to Shepard were garbage in comparison to the last scene that Tali and Liara get.
At the end, why does Liara put the Shepard’s name on the wall when he is alive? In ME3 love interests don’t do that as it symbolises hope that Shepard is out there. Bioware - you cant mesh 2 different scenes into one and call it a day.
I love Miranda as a very close second in greatest romances in the ME trilogy.. there's an earnestness and vulnerability between the two the takes my breath away when they're together. Especially at the end when she says "Find me." But Liara is certainly my most favorite and I pick the vast majority of the time.

It's great that Liara's front and center in BioWare's recent tease. It's like she keeps losing & finding Shepard over and over again, breaking & mending her heart continuously. I hope the coming game presents Shepard, Liara, and their troubled romance. There's no better chance to present the passage of time, losses, love, hope, and depression than through her.

Not to mention she keeps a piece of his old armor as a relic in her apartment. She clearly would've kept it her whole life if Shepard hadn't come back.
The whole game feels so different in a way with the new textures, it kind of looks like the sped up some of the animations too giving it that crisp smoothness it has in some scenes like where Grunt checks on Shep after the fall.
Also, the lines "You were dead." "I got better." makes Shepard sound like space Chuck Norris
I mean, he kinda is.
I think it was a subtle tribute to Monty Python: "Oh she turned me into a newt" "A newt?" "I got better."
They pay homage to lots of movies in this trilogy.

I like the end when the camera pans over to you after everyone thinks you’re dead again just to see you give a inhale and the action cuts to credits.
1:42:43 was when the romance died. It feels like she only wants us to be friends without any romance or joy, like shepard was nothing. Considering that they saved each others lives, wouldnt be whoe they were without each other and basically started this epic tale together, this entire moment made me go to Tali.
late response but since nobody else said it, it didnt die there at all. that was just poor writing. character interaction and all is lovey and happy and they basically both say theyre obviously more than friends. if the romance was ever at a point of dying it was when shepard died and liara went through a rough time with that and in her life, and then after she finally got near accepting it, he randomly popped up again, so it was traumatic as f***, led to her not being able to lose him again etc. basically having a husband or wife die in front of you, then few years later "hey how you doing i just got back in town, so that was crazy, huh?"
I actually didn't bring Liara with me at the end because I was terrified of her dying. And I thought she was pregnant.

it depends if you do her loyalty mission in ME2 she would survives the suicide mission because you have to make sure you do every squadmate loyalty missions
I kept replaying this mission after I accidentally got Kasumi killed, trying to get Miranda killed instead, only to find out she can’t die. I ended up losing Legion and Grunt😂

If you take Liara on every mission possible like I do she effectively becomes the deuteragonist of the series. Well actually she is that regardless.
She is the only one capable of discerning the location of Ilos.
She recovers Shepards body and hands it over to the lazarus project.
She becomes the shadow broker and aids in the discovery of the "prothean" macguffin.
Without her the trilogy grinds to a halt at 3 key points, 1 time each per game.
I think thats why she also has her haters: deep down they know shes far more important than their faves. Even precious Garrus and Tali are expendable by comparison.
Yep and even after all that Liara survived the reaper invasion into ME4 surely a matriarch now liara will be op, her and shep are the ultimate duo in the ME universe they both need each other and I actually think their romance is canon, they have a lot of special moments together in game that isn’t just seggs

well, humans are still relatively "young" in terms of participating in galactic affairs. brash and bullish, as liara sort of describes in me1 as you go through the conversation tree. considering how brief human lifespans are in comparison to the asari (longer still though than the salarians, though), it might have been weirder still.
Well is more weird to her because she is a loner who keeps herself in solitary places and had not much interaction with other species (specially humans)

I think the canon romance route would be something like Liara in the first game, Miranda in the second and then Liara again. Liara is basically the one character that can't die, plus she saves Shepard in between one and two. But she also disappears in two, making Shepard wake up and go into the galaxy with Miranda at his side. Then in three it's kinda the opposite, Miranda is away but Liara is back in full force and it closes the arc perfectly.
It's better to choose 1 or the other since dumping Miranda makes her suicidal, hence why she can't be saved on Sanctuary no matter what Shepard does or says.

Not to burst your bubble, but many have speculated ME4 might actually be a prequel game following Liara finding Shepard's body after the opening of 2. So it might be between 1 and 2, like Halo 3: ODST.

Liara has always been my preferred choice of a romantic partner, I don’t usually go for Ashley or other humans because I find cross-species relationships to be interesting and all the other relationships in the sequels aren’t as long as the other romances in the first game. Having my first playthrough now, still at ME2.
She's the only one that I'm interested to romance with. Her character, and her voice are simply irresistible.
So I’m replaying mass effect and I’m doing the Liara romance, I gotta say I’m enjoying more than the romance with Ashley or Miranda
It seems more genuine doesn't it. I honestly felt that Bioware wanted Shepherd and Liara as canon. The other relationships are alright, but the Liara romance hit better with me. Besides, she's a fantastic character.
I started off smitten with Liara, but after ME2, I became incapable of romancing anyone other than Miranda. She's my baby. It's for this reason that I hold a grudge against BioWare. Miranda never received the same love that Liara and Tali did. They both have more romantic scenes, especially Liara. And Miranda's last words to Shepard were garbage in comparison to the last scene that Tali and Liara get.
I miss Modio where I could romance everyone .
At the end, why does Liara put the Shepard’s name on the wall when he is alive? In ME3 love interests don’t do that as it symbolises hope that Shepard is out there. Bioware - you cant mesh 2 different scenes into one and call it a day.

I love Miranda as a very close second in greatest romances in the ME trilogy.. there's an earnestness and vulnerability between the two the takes my breath away when they're together.
Especially at the end when she says "Find me."
But Liara is certainly my most favorite and I pick the vast majority of the time.
