Tali has to be the best female love interest in the games. I mean she's so sweet all the time and her dialogues are so adorable and feels so genuine, and unlike other female characters she has quite the character development. I feel like the voice acting for tali was better compared to some of the other characters and so was her character. I mean Ashley feels very generic, there wasn't really much character development of her. Miranda doesn't necessarily have the best character development and many people oversee the fact that she doesn't really have the best personality, they just go romance her case she looks and sounds hot. Jack is great and all, but she's too bossy, but she's too dependent on Sheaperd, and doesn't necessarily have much of a growth without Sheaperd. Liara is great but some of her dialogue is straight up cringe (when you romance her). Overall I found Tali to have the best dialogue and the best arc. Even when conversation got awkward with tali it was still enjoyable, rather than being cringy
I think this has to do with the asari species professions. If you look at the Mass Effect fandom pages, many of them were like Liara, being scientists or soldiers, or businesswomen (mono-gender female race). These people always try to structure their sentences and communication as formally as possible, for fear of altering the meaning of their words with colloquial language, like "Hey [insert client name], you care to meet up in a cafe on Illium to discuss loans?" vs "Hi Marco, would you prefer to schedule a meeting sometime soon so we can arrange a deadline for returning your recent loan?". Its also likely that English was not Liara's first language since birth, so she learnt only what was necessary plus some more ambitious vocab to further convey her point with extra "clarity" - you have to give her that headroom there. Its like when she talked about the reproductive process of asari, commenting that if they couldn't mate with one another but only with another species, then one Liara wouldn't be born (she was "pureblood", of two asari parents) and they'd have died out before being able to traverse space. So no one spoke English on Thessia (except studying written literature on Earth's history, maybe) until humans came along and a common language between two species became of utmost importance.
I will say that as a human experiencing an asari trying to communicate as informally as possible, you could say she is cringy however. Plus I just realised this is a game and you didn't mean anything this seriously, tho I presume the devs had a similar thought process to me, trying to integrate real world logic to keep things "realistic" enough to hook people and allow others to understand gameplay better.
I've always found Liara and Ashley to be a bit cheesy in Mass Effect 1, if not, corny. But in Mass Effect 2 Liara feels more likeable, while Ashley is degraded by a lot (I understand she doesn't trust Cerberus and saw Shepard get spaced, but Garrus and Tali still trusted Shepard and accepted even if in ME1 they where only friends.) Mass Effect 3 is where both girls shune the best, Ashley has some redemption after de Cerberus coupe, so she is more trusthworthy of Shepard and Liara is already willing to help since she was in Mars.
Tali's is the best romance, even though they messed up and gave her no ME content romance-wise. I also agree Ashley really gets downgraded by the game, and even her return in ME3 doesn't fully rectify the ME2 mistake. But I disagree on Miranda. Miranda is an older woman, burdened by her upbringing and by her belief that she is only special due to how she was created. She crafted a persona that didn't let people get close; the entries about her dating site adventures are priceless. But then you begin to learn she is human, and has vulnerabilities. Her love of her sister, and her inability to have children, really helps flesh her out. Shepard broke through her defenses. Their "be careful" dialogues were excellent, but overall ME3 wasn't a good continuation of the romance. People have made mods to fix this, and they are quite effective. I always romance Miranda, if for no other reason Yvonne Strahovski's voice.
Dude really couldn't say "i love you" to her once. Had me crying in tears of rage and sadness at the end when he didn't say it. Ffs bioware, that hurts.
I’d agree, but every meaningful chance he has could be the last words he says. And it be fucked to leave the memory of those words next to the memory of his death.
Won’t lie, 2:02:07 this whole scene made the Mass Effect Trilogy the only game besides Red Dead Redemption to send me into my feels. Also... Tali has one talented voice actress, so much emotion
@@sniffyjoe4229 Liara is y far the Canon. Followed by Tali and Garrus. Since those 3 are with Shepard from the start. The rest are flings. Thane is the exception since I suspect his romance would've carried on if not for his passing. Unfortunately most of ME2 cast don't return in ME3 for anything more than a scene or two. But no, I agree, Liara is by far Canon.
Besides the romance, only Liara, Garrus, and Tali are truly worth keeping. They stayed loyal to Shepard regardless of their own problems and kept trying to tell everyone of the Reaper Threat.
Garrus is your bro as a male shepherd. More so than any other male companion, he feels like your partner in arms rather than help you required. You want him on your team.
Possibly one of the best well-written character development in a video game, outstanding job BioWare. "I have a home", *Your words cut deep, deeper than any blade.*

I’ve never seen her singing scene before. Surprisingly intense, and really sells how cute she is and how much she loves Shepard. Might make a male Shepard after this play through just to romance her. And by “might” mean “I absolutely will”

This is almost perfect... but you're missing the professional conversation Mordin has with Shepard about a relationship with Tali. They put in work to make this happen!
Well, looks like I'll be replaying this all over again to remember and see this romance again. I miss Tali and Shepard romance a lot. Hint 1: Find the Geth data in Mass Effect 1. (Location: Armstrong Cluster). Hint 2: Take Legion to Tali's trial for more dialogue. (But after you get everyone's loyalty secure and do all side missions. It can be done). Hint 3: It is totally worth it.
@@biiconic6348 In Mass Effect 1, search the Armstrong Cluster in the far eastern zone of the galaxy until you get the order from Admiral Hecket. It will be about the Geth outposts in the neighboring planets. Take them out and when you go to the last mission objective for it, you will obtain a Geth data item that Tali will want to make a copy of. The reason for it is because during Mass Effect 2 when you encounter her after 2 yrs, you can pick the option that recalls Shepard giving her the Geth Data for her pilgrimage.
@Franky Torres me and you both. He was a damn good squad member and worth having as a team member. He would have been perfect for Reaper infiltration or just having a team under his command would have worked.
I finished the Legendary Edition a few days ago and I chose Tali to be my first option. And I gotta admit, both the romance and the long ride getting up to ME3 was the most brutal and rewarding experience ever! I can now proudly say I am part of the ME fan-base, and like everyone I started a whole new Shepard and will go through another worthwhile agony-filled play.
My favourite interaction so far (halfway through ME2) Garry’s and tali are walking up stairs on the citadel. Garrus: ahh reminds me of the good old days, remember when we had talks in the elevators. Tali: I have no recollection of this. Garrus: we used to talk about anything Tali: this conversation is over Garrus: how’s your immune system? Tali: I have a shotgun. That was when they both truely won me over.
Tali’Zorah is both sweet & severe in all the right ways. Paragon Shepard’s romance with her is unbelievably wholesome & I’m proud of BioWare’s character writing as she is an example of their best.
It's really interesting how much emotion her voice carries. During her father's death, when she finishes singing, when she says "I have a home", the mechanical filter gives way to a really beautiful and high pitch voice.
This might be the only trilogy of games where I've replayed a dozen times on 4 different systems (xbox, ps3, pc and ps4) and have never grown tired of it. I still tear up whenever i play mass effect.
@@bossshun9 neither wrex or legion are particular loyal (compared to liara, garrus or tali) . they are the shepherds of their own people, they have to keep the interests of their own people above yours. they commend respect but if i had to choose between the shepherds and my crew i choose my crew. There are many instances where legion and wrex use you, manipulate you or straight off threaten you if you act like an idiot. As someone who's always romanced Liara, I felt almost pathetic whenever I interacted with her on ME3. She kept saying things of "being friends" or if they even still have something and I kept telling her I still love her or want to he with her. Multiple times she kept at this and all times I kept saying yes. 😒 I couldn't do it anymore especially because of recent events in my life that have made me see things a little different. Tali was always so charming and caring and I never even paid too much attention to it until I played the game again. I regret choosing Liara.
It happened to me too. I romanced Ashley or Liara, always seeing Tali as a friend but tragic events in my life have made me rethink Tali and how much of a person and friend she really is. And I would do anything to make her happy, even murdering the geth if my paragon/renegade points weren’t high enough.
I am quite the opposite, i have always romanced Tali. It’s impossible for me to just be friends with her. I’ve also tried to play as femshep but I couldn’t finish it because being friends with Tali just feels weird to me now. My plan was to romance Liara in the Legendary Edition. But I failed, i cheated on her.
@@lucianwong420 I the truth in its day I could complete the 3 games having romance with almost all the characters and just when I arrived with tali, I could no longer change it, after tali I wanted to have some romance again but being of another class or being bad but simply not I can, Tali is mine, and just being as friends goes against my acquired nature, and if you ask him, if I have played the trilogy more than 20 times but in none could I play as "bad" xD
A bit late here, but it was very similar to me. In the OG versions of the games I romanced most characters at least once but never gave much thought to Tali and ended up having Liara as my main romance. I played those games for years but I think I was still too young and only saw the beautiful blue woman that Liara was. Doing Liara's romance again in the remaster now that I'm older made me really question the quality of her romance, especially in ME1 and ME3. In ME1 they just don't have any chemistry at all and her voice is too robotic (which is funny, considering Tali literally uses a voice modulator). In ME2 was fine (despite her basically being a different character) but in ME3 I was done, there's way too many interactions between Shepard and Liara where they act as if they aren't basically a couple for over three years. She goes to Shepard's cabin and almost goes like "can I come in? I know I'm a stranger here". After that I decided to start over and went with Tali and my god, it was absolutely perfect. The romance arc is natural, she's older and more mature now and the age gap between them was reduced since Shepard was dead for two years, so it feels much better, and if you look at your interactions with her in ME2 (all of them) with a "romance view" you can see why she had a crush on him and why it was only natural for them to get together. Her romance interactions are really amazing in ME2. In ME3 sadly (as she did in ME2), she joins the crew a bit late, but it seems like they decided to make up for it. Since the very first interaction with her the lines are different because of the romance and you can just call her to your cabin and "lock" the romance, no shit like "hey, we are the best of friends, right?". We then have the entire Rannoch arc with several romance exclusive interactions that were perfectly written and they all show the growth of their relationship. From there on we have some other romance interactions that are also great and it only gets better near the end. She has some beautiful dialogue after Thessia, great interactions in the Citadel DLC, a great line in the Cerberus HQ, saying to Shepard (who was questioning if he was real or just an advanced VI) "you are real... real and mine". She also has some of the best goodbye scenes when we get to Earth, from "I want more time" to "I have a home", it's just perfection.

With Mass Effect 4 coming, and Liara appearing in the trailer (but older) we can assume it takes place a long time after ME3. Which means that Shepherd and Tali are mostl likely dead since humans and Quarians have relatively short lifespans compared to Asaris. I will absolutely miss Tali and playing as Shepherd
@@boethia7367 I don't know why you refuse? Bioware is part of EA. Just about the most incompetent game makers around now. I started the game romancing Ashley, then Miranda, then Ashley. Then one fateful run. After remembering I wanted to play 2 again. I for some reason, romanced Tali. I started playing this series, 5-6 years ago. One playthrough, I went with Ashley and Miranda. The rest was Tali History. It is hands down the cutest thing ever. That this badass, pew pew guy, falls in love with a young engineer who is just trying to prove she's someone to be respected and not be treated as a child. Ladies and gentlemen, I've been playing this game for a long time. And Tali's story, forget the romance. Speaks to me. An engineer who works with tech, new to the game, treated as a child because of my "young" age, pushed into a life of "no fucking ups allowed" because of a dead dad who was way more accomplished than me. Tali's story speaks to me, and the only difference I see is that I'm a dude
It's astounding that this story driven series has character dynamics like the ones between Tali and Legion, and Joker and Edi which so perfectly and completely encapsulate the central tensions of racial discrimination and man vs machine... And that these storylines can be completely missed if you don't check in with the crewmates on the ship regularly or let key characters die at the end of the second game.
Tali: a young woman who gets rescued by a dashing commander who let's her join his crew and goes off to save the galaxy? Your shep: I wouldn't say saved, more like, under new management.

But in Mass Effect 2 Liara feels more likeable, while Ashley is degraded by a lot (I understand she doesn't trust Cerberus and saw Shepard get spaced, but Garrus and Tali still trusted Shepard and accepted even if in ME1 they where only friends.)
Mass Effect 3 is where both girls shune the best, Ashley has some redemption after de Cerberus coupe, so she is more trusthworthy of Shepard and Liara is already willing to help since she was in Mars.

Hint 1: Find the Geth data in Mass Effect 1. (Location: Armstrong Cluster).
Hint 2: Take Legion to Tali's trial for more dialogue. (But after you get everyone's loyalty secure and do all side missions. It can be done).
Hint 3: It is totally worth it.
where/when do you find the geth data? Is it part of a main mission in a hidden area or when exploring a planet?
@@biiconic6348 In Mass Effect 1, search the Armstrong Cluster in the far eastern zone of the galaxy until you get the order from Admiral Hecket. It will be about the Geth outposts in the neighboring planets. Take them out and when you go to the last mission objective for it, you will obtain a Geth data item that Tali will want to make a copy of.
The reason for it is because during Mass Effect 2 when you encounter her after 2 yrs, you can pick the option that recalls Shepard giving her the Geth Data for her pilgrimage.

As someone who's always romanced Liara, I felt almost pathetic whenever I interacted with her on ME3. She kept saying things of "being friends" or if they even still have something and I kept telling her I still love her or want to he with her. Multiple times she kept at this and all times I kept saying yes. 😒
I couldn't do it anymore especially because of recent events in my life that have made me see things a little different.
@@joaopaulobarreto3626You might be pushing it a little too far, but I do agreed about Liara being rather overrated and suddenly insufferable, reminds me alot of my ex for some reason…
Ah Tali, it's been years since we last held... *eachother* . Oh yes reader, cringe indeed. She was I believe the first ever fictional character that made me felt "romantic" for. Not like obsessively, just...idk.
