- In this video I will show you how to install soffit and Fascia in the peak of the roof. If you only need to know how to install fascia in the peak of the roof on the gable end I got that covered. I also show you how to install soffit and fascia together. If you only need to know how to install fascia you will learn more than just that! How to install soffit and how to install F channel using tin snips is show. Aluminum fascia can dent easy so be careful with it!

Your video is very helpful. I’m not good at determining angles. How did you know to use 7 12 on your speed square to make your angle, how do I determine my angle at the top of the fascia? Thank you.

Josh, I've been planning a vinyl siding DIY remodeling project on a couple buildings that I own for several months now. Been all over youtube trying to learn as much as I can about installing siding. No one site had all the material needed to do the job. Your site and series of siding videos is by far the best there is out there. This one on how to install fascia in the peak was just what I needed to handle the fascia trim. It and all others were very informative, detailed and well presented. After watching all your siding videos several times, I feel confident now that I have the knowledge to tackle this project. I have the tools, time and definitely agree that it's worth doing myself rather than paying that extra money for subpar work. I also loved the jig you have made, will be making one of those in the near future. Again, great job, all videos were very helpful. Thanks for sharing your expertise and knowledge with us. Looking forward to more videos in the future. You could have been a teacher!

Your tip on reversing the blade on the saw was great. I reversed it on my sliding miter saw and it works fine and I didn't have to build a jig. Love watching your videos. I have picked up several tips while building my workshop.

The shed is framed and wrapped but now after checking it out today I'll need something wider than a 2x10 because my eave extends farther out
I just wanted to say your video was such a great help. I am a handy lady and never have done the fascia before and used your video on how to do the peak and it made it so simple. Thank you again for doing this video
i used a similar setup to cut vinyl soffit but even with blade backwards and trying different tooth count blades siding vent holes would break off completely and it would chip. Lot of pieces were damaged so had to go back to cutting by hand.
Question, at the peak what do you do if the soffit panel doesn't land on a groove like yours did? still pre bend the raised portion just the same?
I still bend it to make it work. Hope that helps!
Dude you should never put a nail in the drip edge. I don't think that changes across the country.
I want to use the (vinyl of aluminum?) soffit you used, but I will probably use PVC for the fascia. Does that add any complexity...or is there anything I should know about that before I start? Thanks in advance for your help.
Should not add anymore complexity. It is pretty simple stuff. Good luck on your project!

What do you use against the house instead of j channel to hold the soffit pieces if there is wood siding on the house already ?
Why is the soffit vented on that side? I see no need for it…just to match the eaves sides?
How do you finish the peak if your ridge beam is sticking below the rafters? I used a 2 x 6 ridge beam with 2x4 rafters on my shed and i cant figure out a way to make my peak work...
You could rip a piece of wood down to fill the gap. Hope that helps!

Thanks Josh, based on your outfit it looks cold! I installed aluminum fascia in the middle of winter and it ended up going all wavy by the time summer arrived (due to expansion i guess). Did you experience the same issue?
But what size nails did you use to nail the fascia? Why don't people mention everything and leave out important parts?
I'm adding aluminum facia to my gable that has vinyl siding attached already. Can I just slide the bottom of the aluminum facia in between the facia board and the Top siding channel?
I was told by a 20 year plus gutter facia, soffit, and siding and he told me to to put facia nails into the drip edge because it will oil can the drip edge and mess your shingles up.

Screws would hold better but they are an eye sore.

Is this aluminum soffit your using? I am installing vinyl soffit and about to do the peak but I don’t think vinyl will bend like aluminum so curious if I should run two things of j channel at the top to hide the seam of two pieces connecting since it won’t bend.
The fascia and soffit don't look all that difficult, even at the peak. Unfortunately, I have a peak on a brick addition where the bricks are stair stepped leaving a lot of open space. I'm not in the trades, so this will be a challenge.
Ok. One thing I’ve noticed you lacked explaining, was how you get it to end in a “valley” part of the soffit so it looks good instead of ending at the lower area if that makes sense. On the bird box you ended the soffit right at a nailing flange. When i done mine i ended up having to cut one right in the middle. The fascia will cover it but still. Also how to you start the first piece of soffit with no nailing flange, how do you nail it off so it looks good.
How did you get the soffit to fit exactly in the corner so you ended up with a full piece on both sides? Or did you just get lucky?
So when you butted up the two pieces of facia in the peak did you put some caulking underneath?? Thanks very informative video.
I did not. Not needed because they overlap each other.
How about the nailheads in the drip edge any silicone? seems like that may cause a leak in my opinion cause the whole fascia board to rot over time what’s your opinion on that?
Yea you’re not supposed to ever face nail fascia unless maybe you’re in an extremely high wind/storm area and if you did you would definitely need to silicone or it would leak
Shouldn't that house wrap membrane go all the way to the roof sheathing? What happens when you power wash your house and water gets up there and runs down behind the wrap?
Maybe I missed something but why is the gable overhang vented?

Is adding soffits on the gable ends for cosmetic only, since there is no vent to the attic on that side?
I had to modify some of your suggestions because I didn’t do bird boxes like yours in the video. I was trying to match the house architecture. Everything you did was really helpful and I think my job looks ok. Made some mistakes and I did a few things different. Thanks for your videos and keep up the good work.

Yes you are allowed. Some dont like to do that if they have to replace the roof and the drip edge is attached to the fascia. Thanks for watching!

My mom and I are at the soffit and fascia stage of siding and I was wondering if the soffit panels you used in this video are vinyl - vented. Trying to answer a question for my mom about quality issues. Long story... ;) Thanks!
Hi Kim. Yes this is vinyl soffit. It does not dent or bend like aluminum which is better. Hope that helps. Good luck on your project!
