The music(soundtrack) is amazing. It created this world that only Jimmy, Rocky and Angel could live in. It also defined this world, gave this crazy world of scams, crime, love, betrayal and sarcasm that would be a show that would never lose its appeal to future generations.
Indeed! All I need is my old 78' silver and red Firebird Formula, a tweed jacket and some shade and I'd head I'd head out 1,000 miles down the coast to Ventura for Christmas.
The cast was perfect, filming the scenes was excellent, story lines were good. But the soundtrack added such character to the program. Thats why this show is a classic.
Season 1 music was pretty interesting because they were still throwing stuff out to see what worked. In the episode Claire (I think), Rockford is walking on the beach to a house and they play an absolutely lovely piano piece that should be somewhere in this video. Near the end of the pilot, Backlash of the Hunter they actually played some prog style music during the chase scenes at the end. Edited to say that episode was not Claire but rather Sleight of Hand.
I can't drive out of a petrol station at night or a multi-storey car park by day without playing the incidental music from 'This Case is Closed' in my head!
Another series I remember from those days thank you for this video. The theme is different from what I remember but it is the 1st episode. Looking forward to many more.
Remarkable compilation thank you. Years ago I sent Mike Post a message asking if the original source theme music from Rockford files existed and if it would be possible to produce a soundtrack theme album, and that I thought it would be pretty popular. His reply was a bit vague. He's 80 now and I wonder if he still has his Hollywood studio and if that might be something still possible? His 'mike-post' website is still active and still has a phone number and he appears to have released a recent album, I'll try to contact him again. Perhaps some AI reconstruction might be possible from clips like this or sheet music as well.
I just love this, have it on as my own incidental music when I do something around the house, it's great. This is Jim Rockford at the tone leave your name and message, I'll get back to you. Love the Rockford Files. Thanks!!
Does this include the music from the pilot episode Backlash of the Hunter? It's lovely to hear this music again thank you for putting this together I wish they made a CD release!
Just don't understand it, what I would have said in my first comment...But boy, these are the lemon meringue of my lives, I think now I get what he said I think it was "Come see..." what times they were when programs like this and earlier dominated the broadcast waves, whoo-whoo, unforgotten times then and forever always. Someway, somehow I just think they are going to revive things like this and many others in the right times to come and who knows with someone as nostalgic as me I might be the one to do it, make them better, no profanity, just inspiring messages from here to the never-ending bowels of time itself. Just hopefully MAYBE....depends on if the world in today's system and times wants to relive things like this again...Time is just going to have and wait and see if they want to, I know time does and it always wants/wanted to as far as it's concerned. It probably always reckoned that this was the stuff, Columbo, 77 Sunset Strip, Mannix, Highway Patrol, Dragnet, the works no matter the genre it was/is.
I just don't understand when Miles said what was wrong I barely could make it out he had such a funny way of saying it, funny enough that happens sometimes they be in the middle of talking they say some goofy stuff on shows like these that I guess they are too cringy to do on television nowadays.

great show
This is really great, but the killjoys took down the complete Season 1 soundtrack 5 years ago. Always missed it.
Love it.

shoulder belt optional
It's ten years since James Garner left us.
He has most of the gang with him now.Gretchen Corbett and Tom Atkins are the only ones left from the show regulars.
Cool! Never heard this ever!
Did the radio ever worked in car hmm
He used it once
...Because this was the 1970s and nobody wore shoulder belts yet...
