I absolutely adored James Garner from the time I was a young girl. He would have been my dad's age, but I thought he was so handsome and funny! My favourite movie of his was The Great Escape. His part was so good, and he was so young and handsome. He looked darn good in that uniform too! Thank you for this Scott.
James Garner was the best looking actor to ever hit Hollywood. His movies were great, from the films co-starring Doris Day to the numerous war films. My favorite is The Thrill Of It All but Move Over Darling is a close second. I never missed an episode of the Rockford Files and still watch the re-runs. Thanks for this, I really enjoyed watching.
YOU CAN DO IT!!! - I started the whole series from S1 Ep1 in 2020, 1 episode a sitting, during the pandemic, and STILL only near the end of season 4 (now as of June 2024) there are that many episodes!! (Although now I only seem to watch episodes every now and again)❤❤❤....

I have a break, watch other programmes from the same time: Quincy, Starsy and Hutch, Hart to Hart, Charlies Angels, Barnaby Jones, Ironside, Streets of San Francisco, then go back and do it all again! This keeps it fresh, and by this time you have forgotten the story lines, so it is like watching them new again.
I love James Garner, and "The Rockford Files" was my favorite work of his. Back when the Rockford Files were in fairly early production, I got my first car. This would have been in the fall of 1975. I wanted a Firebird like Jim's, but could only afford a Ford Pinto - that was about half the price ! Fast forward to 1993 and I found a one owner, low mileage 1976 Firebird Formula for sale, and it came with all the work orders/ documents etc. to confirm that 'low mileage'. Close enough - I bought it ! It was a silver grey with a black vinyl interior, and I had it restored /painted in about 2003. Yep - went with Jim's original light gold colour, as a tribute to him. I still have it, and would never sell it - God knows people have asked me ! :) The interior is near mint (I use those 'sun shades' to help protect it), but he needs another paint job. Saving for that now ! :) Thanks for another great video, Scott !
Thank you for posting this, he was a great actor! I feel bad when I see him limping in scenes of Rockford Files where he’s running, you definitely know he had to be hurting. RIP “Jimmy”!
James Garner/Jimmy, the show, the car and the cast hold so many good times and memories, its amazing to think a TV show made before I was born that I watched on A&E with my mates at uni daily holds so much sway all these years later. Miss ya Rockfish.
This was the time when you would wait a week to watch the next episode and could not rewind, pause or binge watch. Somehow, TV was much better then. I ❤ this programme. ❤ from London UK.
I am in London, too. Was a teen in the 70s and love watching these old programmes. We are all half a century older, but who knew in the 70s, when we watched these, we would all have computers and be able to watch them again in our own living room as and when we want to.
I grew up going to Paradise Cove 3x/wk in the summers in the 70's. This brings back so many memories. My mom loved the show. And we loved this beach (I remember when it cost $2 to park). One day the trailer was there and they were going to film. James Garner was there, IN the trailer. It was the end of the beach day for us (typically 3pm). My mom sent me up the stairs (I was about 8 or 9?) and we knocked. He answered and was so kind. We asked for an autograph, my mom had a spare piece of paper - he made it out to me and I still have it. My mom was probably dying inside. He was very nice and personable - I was just a kid with sand in my pants, but I still remember that moment! That was one of several shows we saw taped there, beautiful beach. These days, not so much but it's still a special spot to me.
Games Garner what a class act he was. Hollywood doesn't seem to have many of them around these days. Great actor and he appeared to have a lot of respect for his fans. RIP James!

That was fun, Scott! Brought back many fond memories. Thinking of my years working on THE ROCKFORD FILES (summer 1974 until the end of 1976), I can say that Garner treated support staff with courtesy and respect, just as he did with the stage crews, stunt people and stand-ins, and fellow actors. I never heard anyone say they disliked him or found him overly difficult, although he did have a bad temper on occasion. But because he worked hard, with long hours put in, most people ignored the likely justified outbursts. His older brother, Jack, was a golf pro and told me that Jim got the maddest when he was playing golf. He didn't mind if he lost to a better player; but he minded a lot if he defeated himself by poor execution. Jack didn't say that critically but with brotherly humor because they loved each other. I do have to say that Garner's pot smoking was definitely a new one on me, though, since recreational marijuana use was illegal until 2016 in California. It obviously was something kept under wraps by the execs in the Universal Black Tower, and trust me, they knew everything...or liked people to believe they did. Putting monetary investments in jeopardy was something they wished to avoid at all costs. So if they, indeed, did know, they covered it up.

Loved James Garner and the Rockford Files. Thanks to Misty for recommending your channel. Great visit to Paradise Cove! Spent most of my life in California and miss the Pacific ocean dearly.
I met James Garner in Hawaii in 1989, Ted Danson had a bunch of actors, athletes and even Patty Hearst was there. James Garner was golfing with Robert Stack. Thank you for your videos, I love them, and I learn a lot from you!
Would you ever consider interviewing George Hamilton ? He is a really suave man, who is one of the last of that generation with so many fabulous stories. I think you would have some great knowledge to really get the most out of an interview with him. Who knows how long we have him and it would be great to archive some of his stories about the rat pack, and so many other greats, including some fabulous ladies. They all loved him. ❤
"The Rockford Files" is my all-time favorite TV show. I lived in Venice during the '80s-'90s and I used to make frequent trips to Paradise Cove, which (at the time) looked completely unchanged from when "Jim Rockford" had his trailer there. It's a shame that they've cluttered it all up sometime in the last 12 years -- and the parking used to be FREE!
Great video. I enjoyed reading all the comments. Rockford Files is my all time favorite show, since I was a little feller. I have all six seasons on DVD, and watch every night on get TV. Paradise Cove is on my short list off things to see and visit in real life. I want to enjoy a meal in the restaurant ,and see the exact spot his trailer was setting. That trailer was really weathered looking on the outside, the inside really looked nice.
Hello Scott i am so happy that you did a video on James garner..my favorite actor and i can't get enough of the Rockford files..i watch them every night..God bless James garner..🙏🙏🎥🎥🎥❤❤
This is why I love your channel, Scott. Your attention to details, like getting the angles just right from the old photos, and the personal touches from your own memorabilia. It makes me feel like I'm on your tour again. Thank you for all your work.
Great video Scott! I love the Rockford Files, I was at Paradise Cove back in 2007, really a beautiful place. If you watch the episode of Happy Days where Fonzie jumps the shark, after he jumps, him and Ritchie are either on a boat or walking on a pier talking, , and you can see the huge cliff and Paradise Cove in the far background. As soon as I saw the cliff I knew where they were. I'm guessing but I'd say that episode was probably filmed in 1977-78.
Met him in Parker, AZ at an off road race and he was every bit the gentleman and 'regular guy ' that he came across as. The Rockford Files is still an all time top 10 show.
Thank you for making such a nice tribute to James Garner. A couple of things,I liked it when Mr. Garner said that Jim Rockford had to drive a Firebird instead of the Trans am as Rockford couldn't afford the higher performance model. And Brett ( not jet) Maverick was such a great character who was able to poke fun at some of the great Westerns that were a staple of late 1950s and early 1960s television. Indeed, whenever I think of Mr. Garner I do remember him with a smile.
Love the adventure and the history, Paradise Cove, how can you not admire a man that recognizes humility, and Rocky, and Beth and Angel, lf Becker, he advanced, and even Lt Chapman, Love them, I tell my Nancy in the morning when eating tacos for breakfast, that Jim and I think alike LoL, thanks for sharing my friend, , truly appreciated. I love James Garner ❤ How cool that you have his autograph ❤️ I loved The Rockford files, I used to watch it with my dad. I miss the old days. Thank you Scott for the wonderful card. I received it today, and I'm so glad you are enjoying the Watkins book 😍 that makes me happy 😊 I want to go there sometime, last weekend we went driving down the coast because I wanted to watch the sunset, but Venice and Santa Monica were so crowded. So we drove all the way to Zuma Beach, and there was hardly anyone there. It was beautiful!
He was/is a beautiful man inside and out. I really enjoyed the movie he made with Doris day. The thrill of it all. And support your local sheriff. Great actor. RIP James. 🙏😇❤️
To know James Garner, is know his LOVE FOR THE RAIDERS !! DIE HARD Raiders fan. He could be seen on the sidelines of many games back in the Raiders glory days !! I remember watching clips of James Garner giving Kenny Stabler a pat on the Shoulder Pads after a nice touch down pass !! I read the James Garner was very excited in 1982 when the Raiders moved from Oakland to LA. I am glad he did not live to see them move to Las Vegas
On a date at a Venice Bch, CA restaurant- our table was next to JGarner & wife, + 3 Rockford Files cast & wives. He sat at the far end, wore thick glasses.
Awww sad news, I sometimes forget how old all my favorites are getting. I think in my mind due to the movies he was in, the shows... I just still see him as young. RIP James and thanks for the memories x
My favorite James Garner movie is “Victor/Victoria” with Julie Andrews and Robert Preston. He had the greatest facial expressions when he was acting without talking. When I was in the Navy back in 1983, my friends saw James at the San Diego Zoo, and they took a picture of him. He was giving a hand gesture to keep quiet, so no one would notice him. I will never forget that photo.
Absolutely true Jim hated signing autographs! On a flight from NY to LA a relative of mine asked for his autograph politely whereupon Mr Garner stared at him for over 30 seconds without blinking an eye my cousin wouldn’t budge Mr Garner grabbed the paper signed it and gave it back to him without uttering a word. Lol at least he signed it!

..
@@ernestinemaloy8680 How could you possibly not love Angel Martin?! That show never would've become as iconic and beloved without him.
Loved watching The Rockford Files with my grandpa. Thank you for this. I really appreciate it.😊
Mr. Garner also bucked the Hollywood financial hegemony, as detailed in his autobio, which I highly recommend. Such an admirable person. Thank you, Scott!
🎶 They paved paradise, put up a parking lot.
It was a parking lot then. Where do you think Jim's trailer was????
Scott seems so down to earth wholesome....
Jim looked a lot like my Dad. Thanks a lot for posting this!
He resembled my father, as well, except my dad had blue eyes.
Love James Garner & The Rockford Files was one of my favorite shows growing up. Thanks Scott 😊
rest in peace james garner...we all love you
Loved James Garner and the Rockford Files. Thanks to Misty for recommending your channel. Great visit to Paradise Cove! Spent most of my life in California and miss the Pacific ocean dearly.
James Rockford = Coolest of TV guys
Yes!!
Loved James Garner in the 60s Grand Prix movie. That's still one of thee best racing films ever made!
That's why McQueen got pissy with Garner, over that film. Don't remember the specifics but McQueen was supposed to have done it.
Made my pilgrimage there in 2021. It so amazing that so much was filmed there. My favorite show.
Great story, great actor and a great location for filming.
James Garner such a good looking man. I loved him as Maverick and in Murphy's Romance. Seemed very genuine. thanks for sharing Scott
I loved Murphy’s Romance!!
@@stacykeller3812 Me too! That movie was down to earth and fantastic!
I agree the chemistry between him and Sally was amazing.
Nice little nod to the Beach Boys! 🤙😎
Thank you for this Scott. James Garner was one of my favorite actors. And he was my first of many crushes.
Jim and Nancy from Denver
I drive by the statue of James Garner on James Garner Avenue several times a week here in Norman.

Binge watching Rockford Files due to this video. Appreciate the location photos, giving an entirely different prospective to the show. Googling co-star names in the process. Scott Michaels, appreciate all the history that you are recording. ❤
I’d rather the $35.00 for an all day paradise (with lots of FUN!) James Garner was quite an all around good guy. Thank you Scott for this super cool video! Much appreciated❤️
The shoreline area is also where K.A.R.R. was “unearthed” in the Knight Rider episode “K.I.T.T. Vs. K.A.R.R.”
Really well done, Scott!
I loved him and all the actors of the Rockford Files...good times!
Thanks. I loved the Rockford Files; Jim, Rocky, Dennis, Beth, Angel, and all the other great characters.
onen of my all time fav actors..
A million thanks for this glorious installment. Love your vibe, lore, humor & great dispensing of facts. Learned a lot about Garner! ✌️♥️
Watched Rockford with mom back in 70s...Great memories
Watched every season n episode of The Rickford Files..just fantastic....
Thanks for doing that..
James is one of my all time favs!! Thank you just another outstanding video!!!!
Wow! Tail O The Pup is back? Great news!
