This probably is not so easy as you thing. If Ant+ accesories such as Tempe worked in real time it would drain sensor battery and Fenix battery just in days/hours, not in year or weeks as it works now.
The tempe is suppose to last about 1 year on 1 watch battery. So why not have it ping more and only last 3 months. The tempe could also collect data say 4 times a day and save the information to a chip inside it. Now in software give the option to put that information into the watch for us. I just think they really dropped the ball on this. They could have at least specified you will wait 30sec to 1 minute for the information or showed it working like I have so people can decide if this is fine for them before they buy.
So why not set it up where its a choice. If I am heading out on a 7 day hike is when I would use it the most I would put a new battery and be good to go. In the watch set it to 3sec pings or 5 secs or 10 secs... etc. Allow the user to set the pings. Be nice to have and off switch too so I can turn it off when I sleep if I choose. OR better yet flip it off from the watch itself.
Would be great if garmin would say that. I sold it and the watch. I find they hide to much with their products so I just don't buy anything from them no more.
Honestly it's not important that it doesn't connect immediately. Once connected it gives you the temp perfectly well... so you go for a day hike, of what importance is the first 2 mins temp record?
Probably the firmware has set it to take sometime because it calculates the temperature at intervals and gives you an average, not particularly a flaw.
I got the Tempe a week ago and only today I tried to pair it with my Garmin Fortrex 601.Honestly it was an immediate process it said searching for about 5 secs and then showed my device ID and I selected it and instantly it showed the temperature.Fortunately for me I didn't have the issues others had with the tempe taking a long time to connect and show the temperature.I didn't even have to download anything. My only issue with Garmin is why don't these devices have built in temperature sensors and other sensors? Why do we have to pay extra for sensors, some of which are pretty expensive?
This isn't the worst thing. Once you pair the Tempe the internal temp sensor is disabled until you remove the Tempe. This is like permanently disabling the optical HR sensor just because you once paired a HR strap.
Traditionally the temperature in ABC watches would only be useful after about 30mins off the wrist.... Garmin gives you once a minute with a £20 Tempe....cool. :--) ::::::::: It would be nice to have a better option...but its a better option than any other ABC watch....as it pairs to sensors.
Well... sorry mate... I am using Garmin equipment for some time now and I think your review is really bad... of course sensors will take some time to connect... 1 minute delay, what are you talking about. I remember using Polar equipment and GPS use to take 15 minutes or more to lock, that was a problem... one minute... To connect foot pod, tempe, get GPS fix it takes my watch 15 to 25 seconds to lock when I am going for a run... is this a problem? And GPS never fails me, even running near buildings and under trees. Sorry mate... you don't like it... drop it, but don't flood TH-cam with such a bad review. By the way... Garmin have never gave me anything for free... I bought all I use

even in 2024 this comment is inaccurate lol the pixel 8 is the only phone on the market that has any kind of temp sensor that isn't impacted by heat and its right next to the camera. its great and i use it all the time.
The Tempe will not give the temp if I go through the temp. widget. I have to re-sync every time. If I use it on an activity then it will give the temp without having to re- sync. The video seems to be about expecting the Tempe to give you a reading when accessing through the temp. Widget.

Secret Stuff ™ sure it would bve possibke but remember that it will cost 4 times more then. ;)
This only cost me like 10 bucks geni.us/9PIy and it displays all the time. Is it really that much more.
Secret Stuff ™ take calculator and it shows that in real time tempe's battery would die after about 14-17 days. Thats why it works only in ~20s pings.

It takes a temperature reading once every minute to save battery time. How many readings do you need......?
It is not the fault of the watch for the one year battery life it transmits once a minute. So that is why it takes the whole one minute to conect.
Of it constantly read the temperature you would have to change the battery every few days

just connect manual. go to Settings - Sensors and Tempe Status disable enable and then Connect
Two years later and the same problem continues... Come on Garmin pls....

Does this work for all Garmin devices?I mean I have a Garmin foretrex 601 and I want he temperature sensor.
Same question here
And here we are years later.
Still the same issues.
Soooo Slooooooow.
Also, the clip breaks very easily.
you are right i hope that fenix 6 have a better temperature measure
It's doesn't seem that bad. Just turn it on when you're doing stretches. It'll be ready by the time you are ready.

Secret Stuff ™ thanks... I gave my honest thinking... thanks for testing equipment... and happy Xmas

Yet another abandoned project by greedy Garmin. I wonder why somebody would ransomware them?
1 min forever hahahaha. 1 min is nothing. I have ni probs with mine at all. I dont even notice the minute it takes.
